Doncaster Newco proposal doesn’t get the votes

451

An SPL general meeting today passed several less-significant Financial Fair Play rules (pay your taxes and players) but did not approve a proposal from chief executive, Neil Doncaster, that a mechanism should be introduced to parachute a Newco into the top division in Scottish football for the first time in history.

It would have taken 8 votes to see this controversial proposal pass, which it clearly didn’t get.  The SPL reserves the right to vote a Newco in at any point in the future, but those hoping to buy the assets of Rangers were not issued a ticket to the SPL today.

Surprised?

Perhaps connected to the above matter….  The SPL board will this afternoon consider issues relating to allegations Rangers rigged the system for over a decade with dual contracts.

There are too many permutations for me to digest these developments with any accuracy. At first pass, the news appears to be on the upside of what I was expecting earlier in the day.

  1. This is no way to manage anyone’s expectations in regards to jam, vis a vis, whether anyone could expect to be having jam, either immediately or indeed tomorrow.

The full tolerance levels for the West Coast of Scotland, in regards to people’s diarising of when to enjoy a good preserve, is very, very low methinks.

Perhaps El Duped could summon his news teams to the South of France and enlighten his recent flock as to when jam will be on the menu.

Or perhaps El Duper might read a press release from the steps of his Castle.

Maybe even ole Brian Kennedy (blood on their hands, murder on the dance floor – 2012 re-mix) has his finger on the pulse and knows the quantum of jam which can be expected and the reckonable date on which it could be spread?

    Wot? No Jam?

  13. I have a sense that some chairmen would vote against today’s proposals simply to be able to report to their fans that they voted against it.

Then when it is presented again they will fold and vote them back in.

Famous quote from American politics. John Kerry I think.

I voted against Newco before I voted for it.

  14. Will someone tell me how come Ogilvie is still in place, astonishing me thinks!

  15. Dontbrattbakkinanger on

Ole Ernie Lynch – we’ve discussed this before; excellent CQNer Malorbhoy drives the Annan team bus and has never heard it sung.

The Club should delete it from the website, as it’s completely out of kilter with their decent and sporting demeanour.

It was on the bhlog this morning, like a lot of the SW of Scotland we suffer a bit from a Reverse Plantation, ie ‘Unionists’ moving here from N.I., and bringing some of their toxic baggage with them.

  16. CelticMac – i agree it needs imaginative thinking in scotland, summer football would be only show in town so SKY would surely want any viewing figures they can get at this time of the year, sponsorship, gambling, programme sales, catering, more fans, merchandising due to better weather, late evenings etc etc, better co-efficients as we will be mid season and not rusty.

Id say big Sandy of the ragers will be ragin, imagine all those names of the clubs he will have to learn to write and spell, can we call him the “Quiet Man” after the squire in the film who kept a book of all those who upset him. He can stand behind the “not fit” part of the banner again at Hampden.

Have to say I was very surprised about today’s vote. Thought auto entry to SPL was a stick-on in this sting.

    On the sale

Why would the sale now be delayed? Surely today’s voting does not affect a CVA at all and both Green and Duff et Duffer would have us believe that the CVA proposal (no laughing at the back) was a done deal with HMRC and Ticketbus in the bag?

    Newco

I too would prefer a straight ‘no newco’ approach under any circumstances for anyone. However, if it is to be proposed then proportionate and punishing conditions must be set. To date, the wrist-slapping proposals just left the field. Remains to be seen if they are replaced by a bruiser or a wimp.

Have the spl clubs voted not to all a new club into the spl next season but have the power to do so in the future (following season ) or have they just voted to allow zombie FC in next season but with sanctions ,that’s the way it looks to me .

If so I am not celebrating this decision ‘
