Done in the name of Celtic fans

Saturday’s victory is unlikely to feature in the season’s highlights DVD but it was our ninth consecutive domestic win and despite a few shaky moments at the back we’ve conceded only twice during that run.  That compares to only three clean sheets in our nine previous domestic games.

Despite selecting from the same personnel, Celtic have a vastly improved defensive unit; comparable to last season’s record breakers.

Europe is different. We conceded home and away to Salzburg and Astra, keeping a clean-sheet only at home to Thursday’s opponents, Dinamo Zagreb.

Done in the name of Celtic fans yesterday:

Did you read that the Celtic Foundation hosted 120 people who use the services of the Glasgow Simon Community yesterday?  The Community have assisted the homeless for over 40 years.  Community chief exec, Lorraine McGrath, said, “Too many people still find themselves without a home; more than 6500 people registered as homeless in Glasgow last year alone.”

You can get involved with the Foundation’s work this Christmas by coming to the game a little early on Sunday and shaking a collection bucket.  As well as the Simon Community, the Foundation aim to help Glasgow East Women’s Aid, Spirit Aid, Loaves and Fishes, The Wayside Club, Glasgow City Mission, the Scottish Refugee Council, The Invisibles and Yorkhill Children’s Charity.

That’s an incredible amount of work to carry out in your name over the coming weeks.  You can sign up to help with the bucket collection here.  You’ll enjoy it.

The CQN Annual is coming off the presses this week.  It’s a full colour Celtic extravaganza.  Order yours HERE now in time for Christmas!

  1. I was in the Brazen yesterday, it’s sad what those excuse for Celtic supporters did, the Brazen is a strong tim pub nice. Staff good owner, he looks after his customers and we appreciate that, and the pub is always kept clean, we know who it was and they won’t be back, well put it this way best if they didn’t try to come back, if this is the up and coming Celtic supporters trashing Celtic pubs, or any other for that matter, then God help us.

I have said it so many times I’m sick listening to myself, it’s about time this lot where sorted out, we don’t need them, they are Ned’s Tramps Gadgies and care not a jot for our club or people’s property , to be very honest they are worse than HUNS.

  5. The UK media is fond of demonisation .

The horrors of Hillsborough were used to smear a city , a football club , the supporters of that club and by extension football supporters everywhere. .

The horrors of the Shannon Mathews case were used to smear the residents of a council estate and by extension the residents of council estates everywhere .

Reason to fear , reason to hate , reasons to start mouthing the something must be done mantra .

Selective hype over a vile graffito ( of unknown provenance ) will be used to smear Celtic and Celtic supporters.. Reason to fear , reason to hate, reason to start the they should be banned from away games mantra.

Time for the club to go on the offensive.

Too often we and the club are used as a punchbag. If we stand by as hapless victims they will continue to attack, they don’t need much prompting anyway. But like all bullies they won’t hit someone who will hit back.

I’ve been listening to SSB recently, really struck me how few Tims call, most, like me will probably be on just to listen the hilarity. But the number of ads we run on that show was noticeable. How much are we paying to our detractor’s

It pisses me off that Celtic supporters are responsible for this.

It pisses me off even more that some people are indulging in the fabled whataboutery.

So what if it was reported in the papers? We don’t like the papers,so we can ignore everything they print?

These are shameful to any responsible human being, the mocking of deaths. Personally,I think the support as a whole will be better served by nailing those responsible than by hiding behind flimsy excuses.

Re the Brazen graffiti .It might have been done by a Celtic fan, it might have been done by a Sevco fan but one thing’s for sure………..it was done by a hun.

  13. Phyllis Dietrichson on

I know for a fact that there is toilet graffitti in Liverpool which disrespects those killed in the 1958 Munich air crash, and I would bet that there is similar graffitti in Manchester about the Hillsborough tragedy – but the idea that a national Sunday newspaper in England would run with this story is ludicrous.

  14. In my opinion, the words ‘graffiti’ and ‘artist’ should never go together and that includes the likes of Banksy.

  16. Some of the football on Saturday was excellent. However we had no need to leave ourselves exposed at the back in the last 10 mins against 10 men, with big Virgil et al charging up the park. How would we all have felt if they had scored in the 82 minute, as they should have. We should have scored more but were also very unlucky not to with some near misses and a goalie who didn’t know much about some of the blocks.

Crass journalism on the Daily Record website showing a scan of his pregnant girlfriend’s baby.

His two friends in the taxi ran from the scene and are being sought by police.

Strange behaviour for friends, have they been found yet? So many unanswered questions from this story.

    On a side note…

His close friend Lee Wallace was naturally devastated on hearing the news and was excused from playing for Sevco later that day against Cowdenbeath.

We are in danger of conflating and confusing two separate issues with the graffiti at Tynecastle and the graffiti at the Brazen.

The Tynecastle graffiti is appalling primarily because of the content and not because it is graffiti which is pretty commonplace and not a story.

The Brazen Head graffiti was a poor show because it was defecating in your own nest. My understanding is that either the people that did it or friends of theirs agreed that it was a poor show and attempted to clean it up on the night and pay for repairs. Stupid behaviour but recognised as such and attempts were made to apologise and make amends.

Considering the behaviour that our generation got up to, throwing bottles which landed on the heads of our own, I think we can be a bit more tolerant of daft laddie-ness. You do not have to excuse it but you can give some perspective to it.

Tis the season of the goodwill towards all football agents.

It is that time of year dear reader when there are heighted expectations of players coming and going in the upcoming January transfer window.

The stenographers have already been busy telling the football world of the unique talent that is Lewis McLeod.

Firstly I have never seen the lad play and I am sure he is a very fine young footballer.

However, I understand that young McLeod is, somehow, the extra security on the additional £1m that Big Mike kindly lent to Sevco in November.

If I am wrong on this then the error is currently shared by several senior people at Sevco as they consider that young McLeod is not theirs to sell.

At first when I heard this, despite it being from an excellently placed source, I was doubtful of the veracity of this information.

Of course I could be totally off the mark with this and I am sure that one of the intrepid stenographers will relentlessly pursue this story.

Perhaps it is all a big misunderstanding.

Of course the extra million lent by Big Mike is a story in itself.

Sources tell me that Mr Llambias was highly unimpressed that the folk in the Big Bleak House said they they required £2m when in fact they actually needed £3m!

If you recall dear reader this was last month when payroll was looming.

Moreover this was before these catastrophically low crowds.

In order to continue trading the entity created by Charles of Normandy needs a succession of full houses from those who follow on.

It is sad to see such disloyalty in their hour of need.

Perhaps the four people let go from the ticket office will not be missed if this malingering in the ranks continues.

I had expected to see more of the Dunkirk spirit instead of such abject surrender.

The blue seats of Ibrox are also impacting on the calculations in the year end accounts of Rangers International Football Club (RIFC).

I understand that the computational assessment that £8m would be needed is pretty banjaxed at this stage.

Sources tell me that these figures were based on an assumption of home crowds of between 25,000-30,000.

For December there was, you will be happy to hear, a Grand Plan.

A good crowd was expected for the cup game against Kilmarnock.

Beating Alloa was taken as a given and the prospect of a cup final would give The People something of a fillip.

This would then result in a healthy turn out to see the mighty Glasgow Sevco tussle with the Blue Brazil.

    Now all is changed.

    Short changed.

My number crunching kitchen cabinet assessed that if the current disloyalty continues from The People then £8m will not be enough to steady the ship.

I was given figures ranging from £12m to £14m.

One of my bean counting buddies reminded me that from January until June Sevco will require somewhere in the region of £6.4m for wages alone.

The current ongoing austerity measures will bite into that somewhat, but he could not be sure by how much.

It should be self-evident from the year end accounts that massive downsizing has to happen.

If the crowds continue to be in the loss making regions of the Cowdenbeath game then it doesn’t look good.

There is the small matter of the £3m that Big Mike is due in April.

Of course he could write that off if he contracts Rangersitis.

Should Ashley decide to fund the operation to keep his commercial deal on track then The People will undoubtedly respond in their time dishonoured Pavlovian fashion to anyone in brogues with money.

Actually at this stage the footwear is probably optional.

I am told that the dress code has been waived for flock visiting the inner sanctum of the Blue Room.

One of the only revenue streams now controlled by the club is corporate hospitality.

Subsequently they ain that fusser about collars, ties blazers and shiny shoes anymore.

Of course anyone coming in from Newcastle United on a loan deal will be lauded by the stenographers as world class.

As for other players going out there are a few possibilities other than young McLeod.

During the last January window they refused an offer of £700,000 for Lee Wallace.

I am told that there has also been interest in Fraser Aird.

However the current financial woes of Sevco are common knowledge in the football world.

Any offers for players like Lee Wallace will be low ball numbers.

Of course the lad himself must want to go.

Just like Super Alistair these guys have contracts and the club must honour them if they decide to stay and play.

It could be an interesting January…

  27. I see that we are supposedly in the running to sign Martin Ødegaard. And whilst I think there may be a sign of his intentions at the start of this video compilation (shirt number!), showing everything three times to pad it out doesn’t make him any more skilful, and there didn’t appear to be an overwhelming amount in terms of positive end product.

Most of the time he seemed to hold on to the ball for too long, to try to beat one opponent too many, or to take too long to get a shot away. On a cold, wet winter weekend in Motherwell or Kilmarnock he’d get flattened before he’d managed to release the ball.

With the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool, Man Utd, and God knows who else supposedly courting the 15 year old, I guess Celtic’s best chance of getting him would be by offering him the chance to be starring in the first team rather than messing about with kids of his own age in a EPL youth team. But I don’t think he is old enough or physically strong enough to play in the physically challenging SPL at the age of 15. It was too tough for even a fully grown (but pint sized) Juninho to excel, and he had already realised his potential.

IMHO it is not worth going for him unless we can get him for a bargain basement price, which just aint going to happen.
