Dundee United 1-0 Celtic

258

Celtic were careless in possession throughout this game but it would be wrong to suggest it was a lackadaisical performance, if anything the champions were hurried in possession when a bit more composure and patience was required.

The Dundee United goal came as a result of poor defending.  United won a corner on Celtic’s right which was taken short before the cross came in.  Scott Robertson met the ball 7 yards from goal and placed a header into the corner of the net giving Fraser Forster no chance.

Celtic enjoyed the majority of possession throughout the game but failed to make anything of it before going behind, however, Kris Commons soon sparked into life.  On 29 minutes Gary Hooper knocked the ball down to Commons who fired in a shot which was deflected wide.

Commons then fed Hooper whose shot from 25 yards was spilled by Pernis in the United goal.  The final seconds of the first half should have led to a Celtic goal.  Commons’ shot from outside the box was saved by Pernis but United could not clear the chance and when the ball broke back to Commons he fired a cross along the six yard line which Anthony Stokes completely missed with an empty goal in front of him.

The second half was most notable for the procession of ineffective cross balls Celtic threw into the Dundee United box.  With Charlie Mulgrew playing in central defence his delivery from wide positions was badly missed.

Tony Watt replaced Stokes at half time and immediately stirred things up, forcing Pernis into a good save from a header soon after the break.  Within a minute he forced another save which Pernis could only parry.

While Mulgrew was missed on the wing he twice blocked shots which could have put United two ahead.  MacKay-Steven crossed for Jon Daly who was denied by Mulgrew while late in the game the Celtic defender halted a Jonny Russell effort.

Gary Hooper put Celtic’s best chance of the game inches wide after Kris Commons (again) linked play to set him up for a shot inside the box.

Baku Black. I am not blameing Celtic for anything Fella I am blameing the football authorities for lack of a backbone. However, why would you want to support Scottish football when you know the rogues and cheats will continue with impunity? H.H.

Charlie Mulgrews number one attribute wis clearly illustrated today in his abscence at left back.

The ability to cross the ball.

Its why ah wanted Charlie signed.

Its why despite probably being a better centre back than left back ad still play him at left back.

    Charlies delivery is that important.

Issy’s crossing wis woeful,Mathews and Lustig nearly as bad.

Only positives the two youngsters Watt and McGeough.

Pulling yer leg Mate, for me there’s not one of the Utd team I would have at Celtic, maybe Russell if he goes on and cements his potential.

I didn’t see them against the huns but I guess they didn’t work anywhere near as hard as they did today.

Fair play to them they know how to win ugly when there’s nothing at stake.

I have such a dislike of Houston it clouds my judgement when it comes to their players..

SPL must be given the choice and not assume they will continue to enjoy the green pound. What do you want guys the corrupt blue pound or the green honest one? You aint getting both

    boycott away matches next season

PS Great time in west end yesterday, or so I am told. Never made it to the meatballs though. Enjoyed Tennents pub

    Joe Filippis Haircut,

Exactly, so continue to support Celtic not Scottish football, don’t lose your love of Celtic because of the actions of others. The huns support will dwindle the longer this continues, if they do get a free pass into the SPL we need to bury them not give them free reign to rise to the top again.

  8. Can’t understand the animosity towards Sir Alex on here.

I attended my first Huns game in 1969, the 4-0 drubbing of he Huns in the cup final.

Sir Alex was outstanding that day (his failure to mark big billy a highlight) and he made a big contribution to our victory.

On way back from Dundee suspecting I have watched my last away game (with maybe only 1 more game ever for me to go).If a straw poll on the bus is anything to go by then next seasons attendances are going to be very poor!

Aye,some of the more ‘friendly rivalry’ imposters have shown their bilious true colours since their corrupt organisation has hit the buffers.

I always knew they were tossers, but you have to let them just pass by sometimes.

Just cancelled Sky sports.Had a long conversation with the lady on the phone.Made sure the reason for cancelling was logged, for all the good do.

  13. Joe Filippis Haircut on

Bakublack. The problem with continueing to support Celtic is that many other clubs benefit from the money paid to Celtic with our large support.I cannot bring my self to watch football where we know the honest teams are loseing out to the cheats not because of better football but because of cheating.Cast your mind back Tommy Burns built a fine Celtic side and was a fine Celtic manager and yet the Cheating orcs done him and his team out of trophies. Now there is no apology forthcoming from the huns or the football authorities it is all about how they can launch there Newco Rangers in the SPL.Fella everyone has there own choice to make and I have made mine.H.H.

  14. theglasgowcelticway..

Why did you cancel your sky subscription?

Are you buying a season ticket for next season?

Or do you know something the rest of us don’t?

    Yep….

Have always worked alongside huns and when you have a slimy face like all huns do the mask will eventually slip and reveal the hatred beneath…not a pretty site.

  16. Hopefully 3-5-2 is an experiment that will be binned once the new season starts.

Might’ve been mentioned already in the match thread but did anyone else think we neglected the right wing today, lost count of the number of times Lustig or Matthews were free, potentially one on one against the Utd fullback but we ignored the option. Very poor.

  17. Baku/Black Isle Celt on

    Joe Filippis Haircut,

Paying Celtic for tickets, merchandising etc. does not help the other clubs (except cup games where gate is split but Celtic don’t get home games for some reason so it is a moot point).

You’ve made your decision based on what exactly? Nothing has been decided yet.

  18. Daly is not good enough

Disagree with crosses felt we put a lot of crosses into box today and every game but as Lenny has been saying since last year we need a big bustling striker luckily our failure to get such player in jan has not cost us but we need for next season

Did anyone else think stokes body language suggest he has been told he can go

  19. I haven’t lived in Scotia for decades, travelled widely wearing Celtic colours and not once have I been called any derogatory names. In fact,I’ve been warmly welcomed.

Growing up in Glasgow,I was verbally abused almost every day,and physically attacked on a regular basis.

Any huns I run across nowadays outside of Scotland are the fake ” we’re all mates, really ” brigade. I buy none of it. I give them ‘friendly’ banter and wtch as their eyes harden . The only good hun is a……

Always found Huns really decent people. From FF:

“is there any group of people within western Europe who would happily programme mentally disabled children to sing songs denigrating their rivals (and even referees)?”

  23. Anyone who can just switch off supporting Celtic like a tv channel, can’t really been much of a supporter to start with..I love Celtic, when they lose I hurt,I’m hurting today,I sometimes cry over Celtic both in defeat and victory..if Celtic were struggling in the Diadorra league I would still be supporting them..My support for Celtic is unconditional..

BakuBlack. Fella maybe I have not spelt it out clearly if Newco Rangers start life in the SPL next season I will be finished with Scottish football as I suspect will many thousands over other supporters throughout Scotland. When Celtic take there support to away games other clubs benefit financialy you are correct that no decision has yet been made and I hope against hope that honesty and decency will prevail and the orcs will truly be punished for there cheating but I wouldnt bet my mortgage on it.I await the outcome of the debacle at Ibrokes with a heavy heart.H.H.

No matter what happens with the reincarnation of the cheats next season I will be renewing my season ticket- because I support Celtic- I will not spend a penny for any other team or the SFA. I hope to see many of you at our home games backing NFL, but good luck to those who chuck it as I can understand why you are doing it.
