Only Sportsound today but, by the sounds of it a good, timely win. Willie Miller critical of Stoke’s booking, for celebrating goal. Some good performances and some good game time. International football now, which will give some players a break and some not, can work both ways. Strange one from Izzie, especially this weekend. We do not have good cover in his position. The Peterborough player was reported to be a winger, not a full back.
If FF isn’t content with life at Celtic and isn’t looking at that champions league draw with anticipation them let him go.
Izzie I’d keep….if we had a striker his crosses might have an ending…if the guy playing in front of him actually covered his forward runs then he would be well worth his place in the team.
We do need..another left back,, a midfielder who can go forward..and a feckin striker…

first 20 mins we played an open game ,utd tried to match it
they couldn’t , wee jackie change his tactics and hoped to spoil celtics momentum .
it worked for them but we still scored and took the points.

McCann and Tanner doing their best to belittle Celtic’s win going on about the free kick being rolled back, a throw in that should have gone to Utd.
Made no mention of the fact that Utd should have been playing most of the match with 10 men after Gunning’s kick out at Virgil in the first half.
Funny that eh?
Seething, sour little huns.

We now have two exclusive yellow card offences applying only to Celtic.
Leaving the field of play (even when you haven’t) and shooshing the opposition fans.
Last season we took 8 points from our first four games, so we are better off already.

Excellent back 4 and GK performance today , that wee trumpet McCann spouting tabloid nonsense about Peter Lawell having to splash the cash and that Effe was Ok and Virgil OK , good grief , utter tripe , it’s no wonder a small minority of our support end up mimicking idiotic comments like that – constant negativity.
3 points and a settled look about the back 4 today, Nuff said.

Izzy has not recaptured his initial form and is a liability at left back on too many occassions.
I like him going forward but feel he leaves us exposed at the back which allows teams to stretch our back line and create holes.
Full backs have to get forward too. Other players should know how to cover when this happens.

Agree, love the quality of football and drive from Efe and Virgil today. Almost faultless. Dual motm
After match Neil said that the pitch was “sticky”. It looked good on the telly but it just goes to show that things are not always as they seem.
Good win today, after Wednesday’s heroics, and lots to look forward to, including the new faces.
Onwards and Upwards, Forza Celtic!

Excellent three points after Wednesday’s exertions.
Efe and Virgil outstanding.
Great goal from Stokesy.
Shocking performance from the mib – nae surprise there.
Hope Mikael’s injury not too bad.
Disappointed at DU’s agricultural approach today – expect more from a team managed by Jacki Mac.
Might have missed it but I got the impression that Jackie did not shake hands with Neil at the end of the game.

Wish people would just get off players backs. It is so bloody boring.First it was Broony, then Sammi, now its Izzy and Forrest.Gie us a rest.Personally I thought Izzy had a decent game today, but thats not good enough for some.
The thing sticking out a mile today was the lack of a striker.I know they are still looking but we need badly.I know we have Pukki, but another goalscorer is needed.
Big Virgil looks a class act. When he is really up to speed should be a star.

TV show how good a brain Stokes has showing him moving the ball a yard BACK after the ref has placed the ball and then turned his back. The extra yard gives Stoksie extra space to get ball up over the wall and down again. Excellent.
Well done to the Celtic players and to Neil for a great few days and a whole lot of excitement!

Why do some on here get so riled up about Celtic fans giving opinions on the game when their negative?
Every fan sees the game differently and the viewpoints be they positive or negative add to the entertainment.
Big Virgil is going to be a PLAYER still only what 21? very impressed Efe a class act as well, started of brilliantly with pace which looked like we would win the game comfortably, not getting the early goal our play deserved let Utd back in ,breaking up play with niggly fouls and brutish tackles hindered us then it became scrappy until anto popped up with a beauty of a free kick

Free kicks are regularly taken several feet, even yards away from the point of the foul .

Agreed but he gets caught out and then fails to track.
As I say this has been of late and I hope he improves back to the player we know.
Agree also that the midfield need to cover.
I suppose I like my full backs to be defenders first.
Matthews I think does it really well and I think he and Lustig cover each other well in the cases where one gets forward.
We need similar on both sides.

Bit premature maybe, but Virgil could be a huge hit
Was awesome today, along with Efe
Both seemed to enjoy playing with each other, and Virgils passing range was insane – he’s a footballer as well as a tough CB
Think both he and Efe can bag a few goals this year
While Kelvin was a good CB, I think Virgil matches him defensively and is much more of an attacking threat
Lenny says he is hoping to get one or two more in. Izzy throwing his jersey to the crowd could be significant. Love the guy but I feel he’s offski.
Re the game, Brilliant start but unable to maintain it, hardly a surprise when you consider the effort they put in midweek. Always the better team, deserved win.
Someone earlier said Stokes was dire all game, wouldn’t agree in a thousand years. Wasn’t his best game and I would have given Virgil MOM but Stokes never stopped running. Was fouled for a penalty, not given and won and scored free kick.
Overall very positive, wouldn’t have won that game last year. Highlight Virgil, Downside, Derk apart from one cross never got going and Lustig injury.

A couple of years ago Ronaldo did the exact same at a free kick in the same place in a champions league match, he scored as well. Commentators thought he was a genius.
Celtic_First on
The point about what Stokesy did is that the ref was measuring out where the wall had to be from the original position. Ergo, in theory, the wall would be further away from the ball, very important for a free-kick so close to the goal. Great thinking by Stokesy.
If the wall had waited for the ref to mark its position and then edged forward by the same distance as Stokesy moved the ball, the two would cancel each other out. I don’t know if the wall did shuffle forward, but it probably did because it usually does and nobody, nobody ever, bats an eyelid.

Here how good Izzy was….. He had MacKay whitsisname so much in his back pocket that…… MacKay whitsisname switched wings…..there’s no better testimony than that
For some reason I decided to take a look at David Leggats blog.
Oh my good God. I am somewhere between pity and despair for him and those who read his stuff and take it seriously.
Just one instance of his totally disjointed and illogical line of thought (and one common among ‘ra peepul’ it seems) is his attack of 30th August on Jack Irvine – the guy who spun the positivity for rangers and sevco while all around the big hoose was collapsing in on them – yet scroll on down to an article from a few weeks earlier and he lauds ‘rangers’ (sic) for going to war with radio clyde because Jim ‘Celtic daft’ Delahunt and Andy ‘Uncle Tim’ Walker apparently refer constantly to Sevco as a new club.
Throw in some sweeping generalisations and total misrepresentations of the truth (‘there is no basis in law of football regulations for rangers (sic) being a new club’ he claims, or the first tier tribunal exonerated rangers entirely – which it didn’t) and you get ample evidence that they/he do not wish to engage with anything negative about their ‘club’ (either of them) but also want to attack anyone who appears to be damaging their club yet they don’t want anyone to write or talk in public about the people and the actions that have damaged their club.
They want people to tell them everything is great at RIFC but they don’t want people telling them lies either and if they do have to hear bad news woe betide the person who tells them it. Maybe they should all go in to a big room and be told secretly that they are fecked and we can all pretend not to know. Strange peepul
Crazy.
There is no road back for them while they continue to deny the truth. I’d say ‘good’ but I don’t know if it is. It’s a dangerous subculture.

Van Dyk hadn’t shown much…..yet, now he is getting up to speed, he looked excellent today. First impressions can be poor indicators.
In Pukki’s case, we haven’t even seen him playing with us. So let’s give folk a chance.
