I was slightly miffed at Neil Lennon’s TV comments on Efe Ambrose yesterday, “He can’t cross”, but on reflection, better Neil points out the player’s flaws to the nation than gives him a ringing endorsement. I’d a similar sentiment after Emilio Izaguirre’s dangerous looking forward step against France, which was never in danger of making contact with an opponent, when an ever-unhelpful commentator assured us Izzie, “has that in his locker”. Anyone who has watched him for four years will know he doesn’t.
Based purely on what’s been offered up on UK TV, neither player will be attracting an offer, which is good.
Both Honduras and Nigeria have a difficult task ahead if they are to remain in the tournament beyond the group stage. Fraser Forster’s England also have it all to do. It’s been great for the three of them to get to the World Cup but the sooner they’re home, uninjured, the better.

From The SPFL site
The Scottish Premiership, Championship, League One and League Two all kick off on the weekend of 9 August.
Scottish Premiership champions Celtic will begin the 2014/15 campaign with a midweek trip to St Johnstone on August 13 after their opening day fixture against Partick Thistle was postponed. The postponement was requested by Glasgow 2014 Ltd and Celtic FC due to Celtic Park’s involvement in the Commonwealth Games.
Ronny Deila’s side will unfurl the flag before their Celtic Park meeting with Dundee United on August 16.
Last season’s runners-up Motherwell start at home to St Mirren and Aberdeen, who finished in third place, welcome Dundee United to Pittodrie.
Dundee mark their return to the top flight with a home match against Kilmarnock and fellow promoted side Hamilton Accies take on Inverness Caledonian Thistle at New Douglas Park.
Scottish Cup winners St Johnstone kick off their campaign with a trip to Dingwall to take on Ross County.

h ooooooooooooooooooops…..
thanks for the correction…
In ither news…….
The Herlad is already as borin’ as the oul’ Referendumb Kwik News……..quite a feat.
Poor Spiersy tho’ seems horribly conflicted,
still hanging onto the hope that their is something called a ranjurs –
( It’s a miracle!)
in doing so he remains valiantly in the denial camp……….for him, like the gumsy gargoyle – the big hoose must remain open, it’s just shady charlatans who are keeping the guid ranjurs from flourishing…………..Oh aye.
The Big Lie………..
This is typical of him and ithers of his ilk…….
they refuse to see that ranjurs killed itself – the result of greed, envy and sharp practice – and consequently, ranjurs are gone.
However if scoddland is to move on there needs to be klosure and a fitting burial for the remains.
Build That Car Park high……………….

Radio Shortbread Sport leads with the El Brassico game…….get used to the hype …..

You said it, bud. Media focus will be on the lower division – desperately trying to appease their readers/viewers. I’m expecting a barrage of negativity against Celtic – again because it suits the media’s customer demographic. So predictable…
“Get used to the hype”
When people has spouted the drivel that the Championship is going to be the BEST league next season, I ask them a few questions.
Who are the better team Celtic or sevco?
Who are the better team Aberdeen or Hibs?
Who are the better team Dundee Utd or Hearts?
Who are the better team Motherwell or Allloa?
Which is the better league?
They then usually correct themselves to say it will be the most competitive league.
This much may be true, but to paraphrase Jock Stein, I could organise a 100m race made up of 80 year old men, it might be competitive but it wont be any bloody good.

Thanks for that buddy
The SPFL knew Celtic could not use Celtic Park for the first game, and not exactly Celtic’s fault, so why not give us an away game on the opening Saturday?

Your expectations will, I am certain, be proven correct……which is why I am so against negative posting on CQN.
Of course there will be aspects of CelticFC deserving of condemnation but it can be guaranteed the MSSM will have their teeth into it. No need for us to help them.

That’s you assuming that the people running the game in Scotland have a brain :-))
To all the CQN’ers you have/or still are chortling at my China predicament – may your next bowel movement be a hedgehog !!!!
Only kiddin.
Anyway’s, believe it or not, the wee porter at the hotel gave me a tip for a horse at Royal Ascot today (Stirring Ballad in the Royal Hunt Cup – I’m no even going to try and say it as he said it) but I’ve just noticed it’s a Non Runner.
Any of youse hoarsey folks got anything tasty (tipwise, at least) for today?
Tom McLaughlin
I’ll take a guess that Celtic were fully involved in not getting a league game scheduled for the opening Saturday.
Means Celtic can now organise a money spinning friendly for that date.
Tom McLaughlin

Perhaps Celtic requested a free Saturday on the 9th to play a money spinning friendly, as they’ve done for the last couple of years. Commonwealth Games could be a convenient excuse that suits all (except Partick Thistle)
Anyone who is surprised if the SMSM concentrate on the second tier of Scottish football this coming season cannot have spent any time in Scotland.
They came to the conclusion a long time ago, if they needed any persuasion, that the bulk of the population were of another persuasion to the old Timmites, a persuasion indeed which pits them against all things Tim. That bulk has to be appeased at all times. If that means the very denial of reality or constant whataboutery, that is a small price to pay in their eyes. Just look at the anti-Lennon mantra: he brings it on himself to explain away Scotland’s utter shame. Just look at the Act the Scottish Government pushed through to even things up.
