Emerging talent, Slovenian reaction, footballs morals

1393

Delighted to hear Ronny Deila is planning to rest players ahead of Tuesday’s Cup Final.  There is plenty to be gained from playing the next wave of Callum McGregors at Inverness tomorrow, and little to be lost in the league race.

Our unique position in world football, a club who are so massively bigger than all others they are not involved in a proper competition to win the league, has more drawbacks than advantages, but we need to exploit this position by developing emerging talent when the stars align.

The morning after the day before the Slovakian media were very respectful of Celtic.  There was an acceptance that their assessment of Celtic was based on two unrepresentative performances against Legia.

Perhaps the most encouraging aspect of Slovenian coverage was the appreciation of the “modern football” Celtic played.  Assessments of Maribor’s chances in the return leg were pragmatic.  Expectations are low, but with the tie level, they know they still have a chance.  Hopes are, that Maribor’s misplaced optimism is viral, and that Celtic will be infected by the same disease.

Celtic’s job on Tuesday is to make sure they treat Maribor as though they were Bayern Munich.

Oh Malky.  You and I both know that football is remarkably indifferent to moral uncertainty, the actions over the last 24 hours of the thoroughly reprehensible League Managers’ Assocation testify to that.  Practically anything is forgiven or overlooked, but only up to a point.  Malky MacKay has been implicated in attacks against Chinese, Koreans, black people, gays and Jews, quite a unique full house.

Cardiff City have already leveraged this to obtain a grovelling apology and have now cost him a seven figure contract, offered by his friend at Crystal Palace.  Question is, after the controversy dies down and the obligatory contrition is served, will another club offer him a contract?  I don’t think so.

As far as the football industry is concerned, Malky’s unforgivable sin is not racism, homophobia or anti-Semitism, these matters are often overlooked as ‘banter’, after all.  He’ll not get another job because he blew millions on players who were useless to Cardiff.

That’s the only kind of offence football really tales notice of.

ME I did it, and you have done nothing but greet and moan, there are people on here and elsewhere who actually supported Res12 with action and votes, you did not, and have zero right to know anything about what is going on. So you bleating demands for information is simply the spoiled brat that deserves nothing more than the vitriol you issue.

Thankfully most resolutioners do actually have some faith in ME and my fellow shareholder representitives, the fact it’s only empty vessels that are making demands for every nuance of what’s going on only makes me smile, I (me) made promises I sadly broke due to conditions set by the board, I’m not happy I had to break these promises but I’m glad I did, it has allowed this to go to places I had originally hoped it would. Very frustrating for us all but we don’t ask Celtic questions, we agree with them what questions to ask.

Do you HONESTLY expect people involved in pursuing that issue to come on here on a daily or weekly basis and provide updates on what must be a delicate if not tortuous process?? I would hope the matter is resolved in the best interests of Celtic but would rather hear nothing until its a done deal. Those club reps dealing with the Scottish Football Establishment on this issue are dealing with complete snakes. Any slip could undermine a lot of hard work.

I suspect he has done nothing, however as one poster said earlier today, this blog is full of attention seekers who take themselves way too seriously ;-)

  16. Just a rambling post about CQN, so scroll past if…

If anyone on here goes to every Celtic game, home and away, then I am jealous of you and full of admiration for you. I love hearing you sing at away games particularly.

If you don’t get to games at all or very much, I am not jealous of you but still admire you for never letting go of what matters to you.

On here, it doesn’t matter which category you fall into because all of us have a shared responsibility for the things on here that we personally value.

Much of what we post is likely to reflect who and what we are, and as such we will always be at loggerheads with others over some issues, teams, managers, board, CEO, MSM, players, songs, politics, religion ..whatever. Part of the gig for me.

The one thing that unites us or should, is the club we support. But there are others..

Yesterday, just before “the rumble in the jungle”, a poster (my apologies I cannot recall who) posted about a terminally ill wee girl called Evie who had been moved from hospital to her home under hospice care – for obvious reasons. That unites us because we care enough. Like when a good win on the field that is soon forgotten, we seem to easily lose site of those things that unite us.

Name calling, disrespect and insults are just plain unacceptable in my opinion.

Sometimes we all get carried away, and when that happens it really behoves us to fix what we broke when the opportunity next arises. Apologizing shouldn’t be difficult for any of us. I have had to apologize to others for my intemperate comments..

Sometimes too, we have a wee drink and then post on here, with the predictable result that we are looser (is that a word) of tongue and thicker of finger.

Regardless of any of that, for a lot of folk, this place meets a real need. Some lurk and never post, some have stopped posting for a variety of reasons but still lurk (PJBhoyNYC stuck his head back in the door last night) while others take a time out and come back when they have their game face back on.

Some leave with an announcement, while others just slip away in the night and weeks later someone else will say, “Whatever happened to Narrowboat Tim, South Wales bhoy, Jimbo67 or whoever?”.

The blog is social media, with all the associated positives and negatives. It is not mine nor yours, nor even Paul67s: it belongs to all of us.

We all need to have an understanding of what is acceptable and what isn’t, and be careful not to lower that standard just because we happen to know/drink with etc the person who transgresses.

You cannot deplore name calling while at the same time name calling those responsible – it just cannot work that way because that isn’t fair. When we encounter that in life we quite rightly object to unfair treatment, so why would we allow it to go unchallenged here.

Some try to scroll on by those who post things that offend them, while others challenge those same people. Ignoring some people works, while challenging others can be successful, but either way – offence is caused to some posters by others who don’t seem to care. In fact, some people seem to go out of their way to cause offence, which on a blog where we all have the love of the club at heart, is pretty baffling to me.

Anyway, as usual, I have used 100 words when 10 might have sufficed.

All on here should be welcome, but sometimes it’s a bit like the back end of a party when silliness and drink can take over. If you start causing ructions in someone else’s house when you are a guest, then you will offend others and perhaps feel less than welcome. The blog is very tolerant, but it needs us all to keep it right.

So…Come back all those who have slipped away in the night. Lurking is fine at times for all of us, but your opinion is what really matters, respectfully given of course :o)

  20. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

Tony, Neil did place the trophy in front of the Green Brigade but that was his choice as I would imagine the board would not have said to him to do it.

My point, not made very well, was the club used Just can’t get enough as part of a publicity campaign and on official merchandise. The Tifo at the Barca game added to an extremely special night adding to the positive publicity we got. The board have also used Glasgow’s Green & White but have never, to my knowledge, given any credit to the Green Brigade for using things they come up with.

I’m sorry if I got it wrong about you posting a comment on Video Celts about the Green Brigade. There must be another Tony Donnelly in Celtic cyber world

The name calling you have had over the past few days has been uncomfortable with me and its not pleasant to see.

  21. The name calling from you two who are left in charge of this resolution and bad attitude makes know your heading no where with this, as I said my opinion, and still no name calling from me, but if you both keep it up, I’ll prob. As a former Bonnie Banks Bhoy he was well known in the area both good for his generosity as well as not so good for his crudeness and ignorance….he was more thought of though than HHHHHH who left after an alleged relationship with the daughter of a local entrepreneur.

A genius….naw just ask Gary Charles…a cheat and a thug…..Brian Clough never had a good word to say about him after that.

His performance at the press conference with his belching into the mike as well as the photo of him laughing while Vinnie Jones has him by the hips and haws (could you see Roy Keane or the beast laughing…naw they would have launched Vinnie intae the stands) suggested to me that he wisnae the full shillin or as they say over here “a couple of french fries short of a happy meal.

As for the flute playing….seems a couple of current sevco staff put him up to that….although I believe it was the 2nd time he didit…..is he any different though fae Marc Viduka who on the Saturday after the ICT debacle (where he refused to go out for the 2nd half) after scoring up at Dens Park knelt down and blessed himself.

He cheated and fouled his way through the Scottish game with impunity…ask Jim McGillvary who was afraid to give gazza a 2nd yellow whilst at the same game sent off Rod McDonald of the sizzle for 2 yellows…the first for blessing himself…..McGillvary after 11 years in the refereeing top flight resigned after this game.

“Two other Scottish referees, Dougie Smith of Troon and Willie Young of Clarkston, had been involved in disputed yellow card incidents with Gascoigne that season.

Smith was accused of lacking a sense of humour when he booked Gascoigne, who pretended to “book” the referee when he handed back a yellow card the official had dropped in a game against Hibernian. Young was criticised when he booked Gascoigne for celebrating a penalty award against Motherwell”.

I was home at the time of the wife beating incident and on the Tuesday in the Herald there was a picture of nosurname, hands drawn across his face, and gazza with the caption “what did he do now”……they the MSM knew fine well but it was kept under was until after the Ajax game on the Wednesday where I believe he was red carded.

Later on I met a lad who’s wife worked for the hotel up in Perthsire, near where the former Ayrshire rag and bone man lived,….he told me that Shezza’s screams could be heard all over the hotel and no one dared intervene.

Sympathy for him and his problems…aye as I had family that the AA saved their lives…..but you have to go yourself…the AA can’t canvass for membership…and you have to WANT to go…that is the answer to that…….and IT IS an illness.

However, in saying all that lets not make him a martyr……and where are all his deid team friends when he needs them.

Finally I believe he eventually got red carded in the Diana game……..looking back both him and goram were on their way out by that time as pernod seemingly didnae fancy them….so his protection was possibly lifted to allow them to dump him.
