Emerging talent, Slovenian reaction, footballs morals

1393

Delighted to hear Ronny Deila is planning to rest players ahead of Tuesday’s Cup Final.  There is plenty to be gained from playing the next wave of Callum McGregors at Inverness tomorrow, and little to be lost in the league race.

Our unique position in world football, a club who are so massively bigger than all others they are not involved in a proper competition to win the league, has more drawbacks than advantages, but we need to exploit this position by developing emerging talent when the stars align.

The morning after the day before the Slovakian media were very respectful of Celtic.  There was an acceptance that their assessment of Celtic was based on two unrepresentative performances against Legia.

Perhaps the most encouraging aspect of Slovenian coverage was the appreciation of the “modern football” Celtic played.  Assessments of Maribor’s chances in the return leg were pragmatic.  Expectations are low, but with the tie level, they know they still have a chance.  Hopes are, that Maribor’s misplaced optimism is viral, and that Celtic will be infected by the same disease.

Celtic’s job on Tuesday is to make sure they treat Maribor as though they were Bayern Munich.

Oh Malky.  You and I both know that football is remarkably indifferent to moral uncertainty, the actions over the last 24 hours of the thoroughly reprehensible League Managers’ Assocation testify to that.  Practically anything is forgiven or overlooked, but only up to a point.  Malky MacKay has been implicated in attacks against Chinese, Koreans, black people, gays and Jews, quite a unique full house.

Cardiff City have already leveraged this to obtain a grovelling apology and have now cost him a seven figure contract, offered by his friend at Crystal Palace.  Question is, after the controversy dies down and the obligatory contrition is served, will another club offer him a contract?  I don’t think so.

As far as the football industry is concerned, Malky’s unforgivable sin is not racism, homophobia or anti-Semitism, these matters are often overlooked as ‘banter’, after all.  He’ll not get another job because he blew millions on players who were useless to Cardiff.

That’s the only kind of offence football really tales notice of.

  1. Sammi was always a very good footballer and his time at CFC lifted the profiles of both CFC and the player.

He received CL, Euros and WC exposure on a regular basis……

CFC received brand recognition on the back of this…..

At 29 years old its all about the money now. Best of luck big guy. You earned it.

    LEAGUE/ANY CUP

Any domestic competition with no intrinsic value to CFC should be used as bounce games until the very latter stages…….we need to find more Calum MacGregors.

    The RD way

Heard from a good source that Tony Watt would not buy into the RD mantra (fitness, diet and lifestyle) so was shipped for a profit. It saddens me but he will be just a.n. other journeyman footballer I feel after promising much IMO.

On the subject of lifestyles it cannot be coincidence that Kyal looks at least 3 Kg lighter and has come onto a game?

Squeezing extra mileage from the available squad appears to be working but it has its limits. At some point someone will have to accept that quality costs a fair amount……even a decent project is up there at 3M now…..which might explain why the 1M projects keep failing?

    Just an opinion…….

    Tony,

ME I did it, and you have done nothing but greet and moan, there are people on here and elsewhere who actually supported Res12 with action and votes, you did not, and have zero right to know anything about what is going on. So you bleating demands for information is simply the spoiled brat that deserves nothing more than the vitriol you issue.

Thankfully most resolutioners do actually have some faith in ME and my fellow shareholder representitives, the fact it’s only empty vessels that are making demands for every nuance of what’s going on only makes me smile, I (me) made promises I sadly broke due to conditions set by the board, I’m not happy I had to break these promises but I’m glad I did, it has allowed this to go to places I had originally hoped it would. When all this is over, I might tell you what happened but it’s more likely you’ll read about it elsewhere and remember who started it :)

This from a guy who couldn’t reply to a share-holder (yes that was me btw) who offered his vote for the resolution.

What was it you said at the time ‘I’ve too many computers on the go’.

right bhoys a wee funny story for all those from KILSYTH and all those who put a coupon on. old pal of mine CHARLIE EGAN from KILSYTH had 10 children .I worked with JIM and GARRY.30 years ago ESCAPE TO VICTORY is on tv at CHRISTMAS.the whole family sits watching glued to tele……….so it’s just finished on channel 15 and as you all knoe PELE scores to make it 4’s apiece right at end.

all the grandchildren are going mad and cying.when they settle down CHARLIE jumps up pulls a piece of paper from his pocket ,crumples it up and shouts FRIGGIN beat ma coupon.

all the waens are crying ,and all the adults are in fits laughing.

ps any EGANS reading I said FRIGGIN as CHARLIE never ever swore.

the guy your asking about is steven wright, he was part of the 1st team security, as of this sesson he hss taken over the kit duties due to john clark retiring, good soo-side man too boot.

  8. It should be an interesting game tmrw , our last encounter Big Yogi went toe-to-toe with us and got gunner 5 or 6 nil. Early season football ( last week notwithstanding) is usually a tight job.

I would bench Craig, Virgil, Mikail and possibly wee Johnasson to avoid injuries.

A good set of results over the next 4 weeks and we will be on a serious upward spiral

I am finding it more of a trial than a pleasure to read the posts here. I have been finding this more and more of late.

This is a wonderful place with fantastic people however some and it is only some bring it down and having posted on this site for over 10 years I find it depressing.

A long time ago I post that this was like being invited into Paul’s home some you respect the place. People would not talk to others in a pub the way they do here.

I have had people insult me and my family on here and then send them post up that they always treat fellow posters with respect.

I read the posts every day and almost everyday I wonder why.

Perhaps it is the general poverty of the internet, for while it has been a fantastic benefit it shows the intolerance of some people.

People on here do a fantastic job such as work on resolution 12 the work with charity groups. For me it has allowed the Celtic community to commune, and that’s a beautiful thing mostly.

At least people have stopped slagging people for their spell mistake which happened too frequently when the site started…as someone who is dyslexic at least that’s something. :)

  12. bsr

Of course you are correct in all you say but, maybe due to ageism, it’s getting harder to accept leading to why bother logging in anymore.

I recall when I first met Paul and Martin maybe early 2007 I was kinda chuffed to say at that time that I read every single post in every 24 hour period.

Nowadays I scroll past probably 80% of posts. That was always going to be the case particularly if the blog, as it has, endured and became successful.

I don’t recognise certain posters here as being Celtic supporters but I guess if we’re stuck with them we might as well have a laugh at their stupidity.

  15. He is a bright lhad and needs the games …. Easyjet pull through with only a 90 minute delay this evening

  16. Pinta… If we always played our best team, when would players get the chance to break into the starting 11? Tomorrow is a good opportunity to give certain players a breather before Tuesday. Traveling to Slovenia then to Inverness inside a few days is tiring. We have a big enough squad to enable us to field a team that can win this game. I wouldn’t make too many changes, but 3 or 4 would be sensible.

Thanks for posting something about the team.

Willie McKay will be most pleased that McLeish is back in football management.

I expect a steady stream of mediocre French footballers on McKay`s books will start to make their way to Genk asap.
