Enormity of task clearly evident

219

The breezy self-confidence after Tuesday’s draw with Midtjylland has been replaced by a more familiar disposition for most of us.  The one rule of thumb for preseason games is ‘preseason games do not matter’, but still, shipping six goals to a side who have played less football than us, at home, is a strong indication of the enormity of the task ahead.

You can be sure the side that faced West Ham will be nothing like the team that competes beyond the transfer window, the major worry is what to do between now and then, particularly on Wednesday in Denmark.

If only Ange Postecoglou was able to genuinely ponder this issue.  He has little choice but to try to create a silk purse from the players he used and who are still available after the first leg.   It would be a remarkable achievement.

Midtjylland won away at AaB on Saturday, the confidence boost they hoped for ahead of Celtic.

  4. Regards last season, if something could go wrong at celtic last year it did and this was not helped by decisions by management, covid, isolation, poor, defending, poor attacking, more covid, more isolation. A list of abject failure. Major injury to our best winger and centreback was also a real killer. In january we had 20 million in bank, but decided (accountants) to punt both our right backs and later, klamala bringing in a cool 16 million before the season ended. Our lot gave up in November and were going through the motions. The want always had left all but in person. The board had decided to save as much money as possible.

Following the season ending we returned all the loan players, let old boy brown go and have to date pocketed a further 17 million. Celtic will be hoping to collect around 20 million + for players before the transfer window closes.

50 thousand season tickets sold to help the club out without any assurances of getting to games.

Management waited 3 months to get rejected by howe (mismanagementof the highest order) and took another few weeks to appoint Ange, followed by delay due to covid. since then we have brought in 2 young kids and 3 first teamers for about 13 million, 2 of whom have not trained with first team yet due to covid restrictions.

We are completely underprepared for start of season and are still working at a snail’s pace. No excuse for delays in signings as money is there and it was very clear covid delays meant we needed swift action.

Even if we do sign a rightback, centreback, leftback, centremid, left winger and forward the likelihood is half of them will not be available for about a month (non uk based).

To recap when the celtic board want to bring in money their negotiations skills and decisions are outstandingly swift, but when they want to bring someone into the club those same skills seem to escape them.

Get you finger out your arse please!!!

But how can we forget the all-conquering huns whose domestic and Euro prowess resulted in a massive trophy haul of… ONE! While St Johnstone scooped two in one year on a fraction of the budget and some other mob completed a quaddy treble despite the hamazing hun hordes sweeping all aside (except the Paisley and Perth Saints). They’re good – but not that good.

ONE silver in 3 years. A good reminder.

We live in hope, but it will be difficult.Very difficult.

To summarise: We can’t stop goals and we can’t score goals against decent opposition.

It is not negative to wonder how we got to this position. It is common sense.

Many of us reluctantly called for change last year. The fans could see what was wrong. We are not stupid.

It is also disingenuous to lay the entire blame at the door of Neil Lennon. But that’s what we are meant to believe.

NFL going is not the only change we need.

The enormity of the task is indeed evident as is the fact Griffiths will continue to be a distraction so long as he remains at Celtic.

DR is indeed a tabloid rag with a reading age of 7, what does that say about the PLC that uses the DR and other tabloid rags to “communicate” with the fanbase, or is it just a particular demographic within the fanbase ?

What is it with these ex Celtic players and some in the written press, before a ball is kicked we are out off the European leagues ,second best to the New Rangers in the league, and wait till Sky Sports start with there anti Celtic agenda, full of huns that mob especially those ones from Scotland and Northern Ireland not 1 Tim amongst them.

  20. Griff is out injured. Even if we forgive his off-field activities, on-field he just doesn’t seem to be able to get a run for one reason or another. Some self-inflicted, others not but I don’t think he’s someone who can be relied on.

    Spot on.

  24. We have in place a manager who possibly could do a job for us , I say possibly because he won’t do a job without backing ,and so far the backing has been token . Yes we’ve made a few signings but that’s a drop in the ocean of what we still need , we have a defence that couldn’t keep hens out a close . During close season we were told rebuild on , yet we are still waiting on a suitable right fullback , a suitable left fullback , a quality central defender to partner Carl starfelt , A quality hard as nails midfielder to defend and support our Tanner ball players , a striker who can cause defences problems and put the ball in the net , and last but definitely not least a goalkeeper . I see we are keen on a fullback from Antwerp . Yes that’s the type we go for a 5 foot 7 inch fullback ,god do we learn nothing , how many goals did we concede from set pieces getting thrown into our box , what’s not to get that them’s have tooled up with 6 foot plus players and another one joined the ranks a couple of weeks ago ,who is a right tough nut . Our CL aspirations are touch and go , yet here we go trying to make the next round with half a team not good enough to be with the club . But all will be well , Desmond is getting involved , a man who could and should have had this all sorted . 50,000 odd payed there money they want to have the best team we possibly can , competing at the highest level , with the best players we can afford , and we can afford better than some we have , If only he shared our love for the club . Unlike lots of punters on here I hope ave no regard for Desmond , this guy has it in him to get a team on the park , has it in him to get the stiffs in the boardroom to earn there corn , but prefers being the absent landlord instead of being commander in chief of one of the most famous football clubs on the planet . If Ange is his own man it’s time he was having a word with Desmond . HH

    The monies are there, yeah?

Sure, build the connecting spine with the help of an adventurous signing policy, informed punts, moneyballs, whatevewr…………………… but get the basics sorted.

I’m scared the reality is that WHOEVER the opposition is, we’ve as much chance of winning or gettin’ beat…………..

For the sake of the watching world, the fans in their various seats, the fear factor in the opposition, bent sleekit mibbery………this has to change.
