Europe a sideshow to league duty at Fir Park

1000

A Europa League tie against Rennes on Thursday would normally set midweek pulses racing but when Celtic have such a crucial game ahead in the fight for second place Neil Lennon has a major decision to make, does he rest players for the Motherwell game?

Sunday’s game at Fir Park is set to become one of the most important games of the season for Celtic and I’m sure Neil would prefer a clear midweek to prepare for it, but resting players, with the inherent increased chance of defeat, could further damage fragile morale.

Celtic need a confidence boosting win but they need heads focussed on beating Motherwell even more. The consequences of defeat on Thursday are unpleasant, but the consequences of defeat on Sunday are incalculable.

    Listened to Radio Clyde tonight (I know, I know).

    Quite considerate of Guidi and Speirs to out themselves as cowards (and, by extension, a whole load of others). The total lack of any serious questioning of David Murray during his time in charge at Rangers is dismissed under the guise of ‘playing the game’ (Guidi).

    I doubt he’s so argumentative with his ‘well-placed sources’ as he is to Joe Public.

    Excuse me for asking but are journalists not meant to ask awkward questions? If not, then what’s the point of you being there? Why is it acceptable to provoke readers/listeners with newspaper stories/phone-in discussions but not to rock the boat with the powers that be?

    Whoever was on at 19:25 played a completed blinder:

    Caller: The Arrested Medal story on the front page had changed into something else on the back page.

    Delahunt/Guidi/Speirs: . . . . . . . . . .

    (An eternity later)

    Delahunt: Thanks for your call.

    The sports journos are sweating big-time. Their ‘Is it OK to go with this?’ approach is coming to an end.

  5. sftb-It is a shambles mate,you only have to look how disjointed the team is.If guys are not playing to instructions, sub them but that tells you the coaching messages are not getting through.We have no leaders,a different captain every month.What spirit we had last year is gone (for whatever reason) ,i truly hope i am wrong but i think things are too far gone to retrieve.I will be there on Thursday as ever supporting Celtic,players and manager.What you want and what you get may be different.HH.

    Nothing in the heid hauder’s tackle right?!

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    I saw this on tv at the time,in fact I shouted out “PENALTY” in FAILTE when he went down-fortunately most people got the joke-and didn’t think the tackle was THAT bad.
    A yellow,defo,but red would be harsh.
    But the result of the tackle made me think-Did he have a sharp point on his boot?
    Remember Souness’ assault on George McCluskey?
  8. The Ghood will prevail on
    what a horrible tackle that was from a truly horrible player… if the hun had been down to ten men then they could have dropped two or three points.
    Not ot worry – move along Timmy, nothing to see here
  9. Bada Bing
    Nobody called your supporters credentials to account BUT……. Can I assume from your failure to give a direct answer that you do do not witness the training sessions and you are assuming that, since the match day performance is poor, the training must be a shambles?
    It really beggars belief that intelligent men like Lenny, Johan and Alan can have a serious career as professional footballers under serious professional coaches, undertake their own professional coaching development, gain coaching positions at serious clubs like AIK, Newcastle and Celtic, yet they, apparently neglect to coach the defence as a unit ( a practice undertaken routinely by coaches at every club at every level)
    Seriously??? We are playing poorly but we have no need to invent non-existent failings.
  10. Evening gents
    Anyone else notice that Barry Robson got 2 for boro tonight? He should never have been allowed to leave Celtic, he knew what was required, you can have aw the skill in the world but if ye’ve not got the baws to back it up then you shouldnt be at Celtic. Too many good footballers in our current squad who shy away fae the darker elements of the game IMO
    Anyways I honestly believe we can still win the league and we should all support Neil at least until the end of the season. Fortune in football can changed quickly, Hail Hail
    Changing the subject,but is it possible that blatant tax evasion can cause problems for a country’s fiscal well-being?
    Awright,it wisnae a total change of subject,just that I remember Murray saying that one of the de Boer’s was playing for petrol money.
    Natch,the papers ran wi it…..
  13. sftb- non existent failings? you cant be serious.
    Garry P-Experience skirting boards and gable ends.
    Do you think this is acceptable for Celtic? DD has dozens of companies,would he put a novice in charge of any of them?
    HH.To answer your question,no i have never coached a professional football team.Saying that,i am not too far behind our present coaching staff.
  14. Have just spoken to an auxiliary nurse on the ward and we just had a long conversation of sorts about her new job.She informed me that she is going to the Marie Curie to work
    In my eyes her new job will elevate to her to saintly status.
    After some of the pish that has been written on the blog over the last few days about our managers saintly status it got me wondering
    Do we really hero worship the right people in our lives
    Ever been attacked at the traffic lights with your kids in the car? Ever been attacked at your work? Has anyone ever threatened to kill you and your family? Ever been attacked in the street when you were out for a drinK? Ever had RIP painted on house wall? Ever been moved out your home in the middle of the night for your own and your families safety?
    Sleep well ya FUDD!!!!!
  17. Anton Ferdinand – you know what you are.
    Every time you think you don’t think that much about Chelsea, you remember their fans’ annual love-in with thems, and you know that chants like this are hewn from the same racist, bigoted stone as much of the thems songbook.
    Too much to ask that Abramovich walks away leaving them in debt to complete a golden hat-trick?
  18. Bada Bing
    “sftb- non existent failings? you cant be serious.”
    I was deadly serious but I seem to be arguing on shifting sands.
    Let me specify again- I was referring to your charge that the coaching staff do not coach defensive tactics.
    I never raised a murmur against your statements on their lack of coaching experience or about how well they were getting their points across to the players,. I commented on the ludicrous charge that they were neglecting a basic.
    They may have their failings but they do not want for effort or intelligence.
    BTW The painter & decorater jibe against Gary Parker is a wee bit misplaced too.
    First of all, the guy took work when he was an unemployed football coach to feed his family; we as Celtic fans should admire that.
    Secondly, he was a respected player and backroom coach. Many good coaches have suffered periods of unemployment.
    Don’t know if you are aware of it, but malice just seems to spit forth from you.
    Maybe you think you’re a lone hero, but if you do, it’s only on your own planet.
    What Neil Lennon and those close to him have had to endure here is unspeakable. By standing up against it in a way very few people could, he has done more for this football Club than you could clearly even dream of. So next time you start boasting about how much you spend at “Celtic Park” and about your “unique” charitable contributions, maybe bear that in mind,eh? It’s becoming torcherous seeing your name here.
