Europe a sideshow to league duty at Fir Park

1000

A Europa League tie against Rennes on Thursday would normally set midweek pulses racing but when Celtic have such a crucial game ahead in the fight for second place Neil Lennon has a major decision to make, does he rest players for the Motherwell game?

Sunday’s game at Fir Park is set to become one of the most important games of the season for Celtic and I’m sure Neil would prefer a clear midweek to prepare for it, but resting players, with the inherent increased chance of defeat, could further damage fragile morale.

Celtic need a confidence boosting win but they need heads focussed on beating Motherwell even more. The consequences of defeat on Thursday are unpleasant, but the consequences of defeat on Sunday are incalculable.

‘Austerity measures’ – another unpleasant process with a nice sounding name.

Good luck in the new job. I know a few folk that work for the college and they speak well of them as an employer.

If nothing else your new canteen should at least have edible food or failing that you will be closer to the pubs for those long academic lunches :)

I think I saw you provide some contact info but am in Spain (maybe meeting TET in an hour) and not sure when I’ll be back by which time the footbal sceneario may have changed dramaticaly, but happy to chew the fat when I get back.

The biggest transformation of all was a long time ago when Anakin Skywalker played for them. After a couple of season he had turned into Darth Vader and was involved in trying to introduce the new offensive behaviour legislation.

Cheers. Based at Gardyne Campus – don’t know of any pubs near there at all (closest being perhaps the Boars Rock on Arbroath Rd).

But yes, the canteen looked excellent when I was being shown around :-)

Also Sauron and all them Balrogs – they were once Maiar like Gandalf and co, but fell into the darkness at Ibroke, seduced by the lies of SDMelkor. And of course all those orcs – elves corrupted by the dark powers during the inglorious revulsion of the 1600s (Second Age).

I would certainly pay in to watch Celtic if….a new Jungle was built!

A light went out in my Celtic supporting life when terracings were turned into, seated area’s!

I have loved Celtic FC since I was old enough to kick a ball!

But, do you know what….I have never felt like, Celtic was Celtic any more since, Brian Dempsey decided against joining, Fergus McCann. Dempsey for me, was the last link to true ‘Celtic-ness’ and since BD went his seperate ways from Fergus, we/fans have been on the outside looking in!

I mean, several share-issues later, we have not been 1 inch more in control of, ‘our’ club since the Kellys & Whites!

Any Celtic-fans on the board were, manouvered off it in a matter of time and, I have always felt that we were, Celtic PLC and not, Celtic FC.

It’s the same today and, I will NEVER be taken-in by the Celtic hierarchy again!

Sorry for spilling my guts but, there you have it!

    Hail! Hail!

I do mate, its a story as old as time itself.

Good guy seduced by the dark side and an easy route to their goals, turns into a nasty piece of work.

The baddy always gets caught and pays for his mistakes in the end though.

  12. Kevin-Thanks for reply,I understand some of your reasons,PL has interfered withteam matters IMO since he has been there but doesn’t stop me going to CP .HH

  13. I completely agree, until we get real change at the very top we are as well sticking with Lenny & Co as the men in charge right now could just as easily replace one failed experiment with another,

I’m not convinced the majority will go along with that though, in particular the ones that booed the team off on Saturday, they could bring about change regardless of what we all think on here,

  14. Just a point about terracing at football grounds. As some of you know i support Cliftonville over here in the Irish Premier League. We built a lovely new 1600 seater stand, with new changing rooms, media rooms, drug testing and ref rooms…the whole lot. We offically opened it against a Tony Mowbray inspired Celtic team (we beat them 3-0). After that the local Health and Saftey boys came in and took 10% of the capacity, no idea why and no explanation given.

When that happened a lot of fans moved to the terracing under the old condemned stand at Solitude, they then preceeded to restrict the capacity there to 302 for any given game. The club had no come back when it came to these numbers and fines would be imposed if the terracing exceeded the stated amount. So be careful what you wish for when it comes to wanting standing areas back as H&S will have a say on how people will be allow to use it.

How’s about a nice wee cheery “new article” to cheer us up.

    That’s a bhoy!

  16. Then there’s Jabba the Hun – was once a snidey vicious sort, but upon being given a ring by the Dark Powers (to head over for some succulent feasting), turned further to the dark side and ultimately into a bloated Nazgul type – a journalistic wraith of little substance.

  17. Kevin want the return of the Jungle, knowing Brian Dempsey fairly well as my Dad was involved in various business dealings with him I dread to think what state Celtic would be in today if he had became involved with Celtic. However if you look at the dark side of the city that should give you an idea. Just because someone is a supporter of the club does not mean that they would make a good owner.

I take it your talking about, change at the top of the club ie: Board/CEO ?

If you are then, Idon’t think that can be achieved when so many Celtic fans of today, want to pay to see their team!

Thats perfectly, understandable but, what fans must realise as well is that….when you pay your cash into Celtic by SB/merchandise etc, you are endorsing the structure that has presided over, 3/4 years of hun domination!

The only and, quickest way to alter that, hun domination is to restructure the club!

To do that, fans will have to stop being used as, cash-cows by the people who have presided over, 3/4 years of hun domination!

“Sack The Board NOW, or we’ll pass them on the way down!!!!

I didn’t suggest for one minute that BD should be owner of Celtic FC.

What I would have liked to happen away back in the 90’s was, for BD, WH, GW to form a new board as, I didn’t like FM. Only my opinion which was formed when, after waiting 4 years of FM’s stewardship….we eventually got a manager who would win us the league. But, what did FM do….he got rid of Wim in preference to Jock Brown ?????

That really stuck in the craw!

All ‘n’ all, I think that BD’s panache would have, helped to mould the club into an un-stoppable force! IMO!

Brian Dempsey did become involved with Celtic. Brian Dempsey was a key player in facilitatiing the coup of Fergus McCann. Brain Dempsey made the ‘Rebels have won’ announcement on the steps that glorious rainy night in March 1994.

Whatever your personal opinion of Brain Dempsey gained through your Dad’s experiences, you cannot decry the man’s place in Celtic history and folklore – he took the big gamble, talked the talk, walked the walk and helped save the club when it was doomed.

For that alone, he has my eternal gratitiude.

I definately booed FM because, FM lied to the suppport when he said that we would get a, top-notch manager to replace Wim! After a, 3 month search for a manager, we got Dr.Jo ????

McCann’s main criteria for a manager was, some one who could be bullied! IMO!
