Evidence mounts as Celtic look set to further improve

930

I’d a look at the fixture list preseason and didn’t expect we’d be top of the table so early, having played only three games with 10 teams having played four, and two of those games coming against our nearest challengers from last season.

But we stepped up to the task. The earlier win at Tynecastle and beating Aberdeen 4-1 on Saturday has issued a warning to all. Bookmakers are offering Celtic’s title odds of between 2/9 and 1/7, and have created a separate ‘Betting without Celtic’ competition. One of Brendan’s jobs will be to remind players that they need to earn the points every time the whistle goes. Defeats come quickly to teams operating at 95%.

Not that we had it all our own way on Saturday. Aberdeen disrupted our rhythm and passing in the middle part of the game. You can see how Brendan has changed the way we use the ball in possession, but there’s still a bit of work to do for it to become more natural looking.

The goals were outstanding. Leigh Griffiths’ effort would be immortalised in song, if one of the Barcelona players due to visit Celtic Park soon had managed it. Tom Rogic’s technique is of particular importance.

Celtic face a lot of packed defences; having someone able to reliably hit an unstoppable shot from around 22 yards changes how a defence will shape up to play us. This is a player Leeds United thought they could buy for £1m recently.

I was pleased to see Dorus de Vries make his debut. He had little to do, and could do nothing about the Aberdeen goal, but if he’s to be relied upon in any of the important games ahead he needed an outing as a Celtic player.

It was equally important Erik Sviatchenko came through 90 minutes with Kolo Toure. The defence is set for some almighty challenges ahead, and will need to face them with little common game-time to allow partnerships to be cemented.

There’s a degree of trepidation for the Champions League task ahead, but pretenders to our domestic dominance beware: evidence mounts that this is a good Celtic team – one which will continue to improve for some time to come.

wonder what br will make of the intl break – a rest or a break in a very good start to the season. Don’t know how managers view it – hopefully it will give some players fitness time and tactics time with br. the young and old players bodies must need a break.

  2. Awe Naw,

I just call it as I see it , so hope that helps.

    Stebhoy,

On Patterson from Hearts no thanks. On Armstrong I would loan him to his hometown team Aberdeen and make them stronger and help them with 2nd place. Of course he couldn’t play against us. The boy wants to be a lawyer and his agent is also a lawyer —who used to be a Celtic fan.

We can afford to let Armstrong go as we have too many midfielders. We can then see how he performs and whether he will ever have the heart and fight to be a Celtic player. I only remember him having 2 good games — both against Inter ( 2 goals at Celtic Park and he should have had a penalty just below us in the San Siro ). However there is a player in there —but he misses something. I hoped Brendan would have sorted him out however he seems to have made a decision which at the end of the day is not a surprise.

Any replacement needs to be a first team player.

Still need to develop the young Tims.

Twists and Turns – I’ll do what I can but I’ll be disappointed if I don’t get your five. I’ve already been asked for 20 by the Sons of Donegal bus and I suspect HT will want at least five as well.

Miraculously ? Found an email I looked for eh, how does that even make sense especially when I admitted to miraculously finding it, finding an email meant exactly what ? That an anonymous blogger has an email address.

You rhymed off a lot of names there but met exactly none of them I see.

As for the bullying, what a lot of drivel, your colleague was accusing me and the other res12 reps of cheating, lying and misappropriating/misrepresenting funds. So if we take exception to that its called bullying.

Like the last time you came on to back up your colleague you claimed to know a lot of people yet had met none. And like the last time your colleague was asked to provide his evidence and like the last time you bound on to save him from answering that exact question. Instead of blowing smoke up his ass why don’t you encourage him to provide the evidence once and for all and that will be an end to it, instead of pretending it’s a shame for him because he’s no got any evidence and he’ll look like the clown he is if he has to admit the real truth.

    Chairbhoy,

I agree with most of which you agree with me on !!

However, I do think we would wither.

If the CL is an asset in attracting good players to the club, then scraping around the lower English leagues won’t do much for the “brand”.

Placing us in a position higher up the food chain, due to our pulling power, would be akin to UEFA giving the Big Four a lifetime ticket, for four clubs , to the Top Table.

That is where the integrity is compromised.

  8. Does anyone know if season ticket holders will be offered any additional three match packages this season for the UCL?

  9. Phyllis

That’s me all excited now. We been debating if we didn’t get any what her we should go into Blackpool and track vmhan down or go into Manchester. 5 tickets beyond our wildest expectations.

  11. Phyllis Dietrichson, have you got room for two more on the ticket bus? Hoping to make the Man Citeh game my lad’s first away game in the Champ’s League.

If not, no worries, but worth a go!

  12. Been with CQN since the start and it was a “must-see”, ten times a day place for years. I have praised it as a magnificent achievement but, for whatever reasons, it is a dour, dull, dreich place these days on my increasingly infrequent visits. The Kojo racist seems to have gone, which can only be positive, but he’s been replaced by a horde of bitter nutters determined to fight their peculiar battles which have little to do with Celtic. Behavior and language standards have gone and it is no place for kids. Tolerance and respect levels have also fallen and it is a struggle to make sense of things now.

At a time when almost everything Celtic-wise is, at last, moving strongly in a very positive direction, I am bemused and puzzled. Having finally lost its Kojo, will CQN ever regain its Mojo? Hope so for Paul67’s sake.

  13. I’ve just logged on I’m reading back. Let’s not forget that Kill Ultra, in the past, on here insinuated that Celtic FC were paying the Requisitioners lawyers bills to take Resolution 12 forward and kept on probing even after being told that it was not the case.

I called ye out on your bs when you, just like TD, used numerous derogatory expressions to describe an entire section of the support because they were planning on an act which flew in the face of what you believed to be right & wrong. I don´t see it going away EVER unless the PLC does the decent thing and takes on the SFA.

I would be saying the same thing if Pep, Messi and Suarez were in the famous hoops. and we had a billion in the bank. If we are still being abused and cheated (which we undoubtedly) who cares ?

  17. From my green tinted specs view in the North Stand , I thought our first 30 minutes or so , were the best we seen in a long , long time. Aberdeen had little choice to suck it up , I’m not buying that they just retreated ……

Good to see a right back being brought in , thank god it’s not that thug from Hearts , who I would not let carry the team hamper

  19. THOMTHETHIM @ 7:50 PM,

To be fair I think we mostly agree…

I’m pretty agnostic to the prospect of joining an “English” League.

My first post was to look at possible ways we could join if we were so minded and achieve our rightful status.

    A competitive League Season One

    Championship Season Two?

    Premiership Season three?

Still I prefer things the way we are, we are in a goid place but if things have to change, being part of a Top Level European League structure would be my choice.

  20. Is Patterson the same guy that Forrest was giving the runaround to in the first half against Hearts last season casing him a booking?

He recovered well in the second though after a half time chat with the ref that allowed him to kick pull and push James with impunity.

He looks decent going forward but defensively poor. Not sure he would add anything to the squad.

Callum Patterson is a striker turned full back…..

SFTB called you out, and you know why, unless you didn’t read the Blog, after he so eloquently did?

My post was a different opinion to yours but shared by thousands and thousands of Celtic fans. Re-affirming that I was Pro Palestinian wasn’t enough for you to come up with the ultimate insult your bestest shot was…………….….”you’re a hun”

    I ask you?

I’m not qualified to debate Palestine with you or anyone else over the internet or in public. I don’t know enough about the subject, and only found out after the game that there were Palestinian players in the Hapoel line up for example? – but you knew that didn’t you, being an expert.

Alligning, Celtic because of our roots with deprivation and oppression tugged on the ole heartstrings for all of us, but it doesn’t pass UEFA’s rules which before, during and after the protest ( 100 Flegs ) remain in place

Try writing to your MP but keep Celtic for football.
