Evidence mounts as Celtic look set to further improve

930

I’d a look at the fixture list preseason and didn’t expect we’d be top of the table so early, having played only three games with 10 teams having played four, and two of those games coming against our nearest challengers from last season.

But we stepped up to the task. The earlier win at Tynecastle and beating Aberdeen 4-1 on Saturday has issued a warning to all. Bookmakers are offering Celtic’s title odds of between 2/9 and 1/7, and have created a separate ‘Betting without Celtic’ competition. One of Brendan’s jobs will be to remind players that they need to earn the points every time the whistle goes. Defeats come quickly to teams operating at 95%.

Not that we had it all our own way on Saturday. Aberdeen disrupted our rhythm and passing in the middle part of the game. You can see how Brendan has changed the way we use the ball in possession, but there’s still a bit of work to do for it to become more natural looking.

The goals were outstanding. Leigh Griffiths’ effort would be immortalised in song, if one of the Barcelona players due to visit Celtic Park soon had managed it. Tom Rogic’s technique is of particular importance.

Celtic face a lot of packed defences; having someone able to reliably hit an unstoppable shot from around 22 yards changes how a defence will shape up to play us. This is a player Leeds United thought they could buy for £1m recently.

I was pleased to see Dorus de Vries make his debut. He had little to do, and could do nothing about the Aberdeen goal, but if he’s to be relied upon in any of the important games ahead he needed an outing as a Celtic player.

It was equally important Erik Sviatchenko came through 90 minutes with Kolo Toure. The defence is set for some almighty challenges ahead, and will need to face them with little common game-time to allow partnerships to be cemented.

There’s a degree of trepidation for the Champions League task ahead, but pretenders to our domestic dominance beware: evidence mounts that this is a good Celtic team – one which will continue to improve for some time to come.

At the end of the day, who really cares who on the blog is a zombie, or works for the zombies?

If somebody makes a good point, I’m going to say ‘good point’ where they are a zombie or not.* Similarly, some Tims post some very silly things that dont get better just because they are said by Tims.

Too many playing the man, and not the ball.

*Having said that, I will admit that the chances of finding a true zombie who has enough sense to make a good point are about the same as seeing Nessie or finding Lord Lucan…. so, maybe the Python boys are right …. if it floats like a duck, its a zombie.

Bourne, you being outed as a currant bun , now being equated with another pro-celtic poster . Surprises never cease lol.

  3. I have to say they are quite good, latching on to a few gullible posters and backing each other up, fooled the few.

So we supposedly lose our resident troll and low and behold a few more appear as if by magic, dearie me, how pathetic.

Kill Ultra, C’mon, the easiest of questions.

Did you contribute to the funds for the Gaurdian and Tribune de Geneva adverts?

Or is your shift over, I hear money is tight and cutbacks are to be made!

    ———–

I didn’t contribute to either. I knew the fix was in by that time.

I did pay for two lots of Celtic shares, though, when my club was in the grubber.

Vfr, my apologies in not replying sooner to your post about Dalsetter pitches and the infamous Mitre mouldie footballs.

Your post certainly brought many painful memories to other posters and the damage the Mitre mouldmaster caused.

My brother played for St Laurence’s boys guild team. His pal in the team , got hit in the upper thigh by a mouldmaster one winter’s day. The Mitre name could be seen on his thigh , as if branded on, for a few hours after the game.

  14. ATS,

Agree. Corporate 101 don’t let anybody know what you are thinking.

On the red eye to London tomorrow ; so the blog politics is keeping me from sleep.

On the RES 12 team and dissenting voices. Interesting watching the debate. It’s seems Kill Ultra ( bad choice of moniker ) is throwing mud at Auldheid, Canamalar and Winning Captains — which is ok as independent thought is fine by me. The responses in particular by Canamalar have been surprising and one in particular emotional. Why I ask ? If so sure of your ground why are you rattled by a lone wolf ?

As above best policy is corporate 101 and let the debate wither.

More important matters and the closing of the transfer window is 48 hours away. We need 2 more players in — a number 8 and another striker. I hope Brendan’s network can deliver a box to box midfielder as we are too predictable in the middle of the park. Brown nearly scored on Saturday when he reached the box and he did against Hapoel. A midfielder who can arrive late in the box would be game changing.

48 hours for Warbs to convince somebody to give Sevco a soft loan to fund a transfer they will regret big time on the 10th.

    Doc,

Papajoe55 only turns up on here to back up his colleague same as the last time, stayed a wee bit longer last time to make small talk and ingratiate himself, picked a name similar to a respected poster, made a few noncommittal convivial posts and thats close enough for people to confuse him with papajohn and usurp that respect.its PR 101. The only time he’s on here is when his colleague goes greetin for handers, then in he comes pretending to be someone he’s no.

I mean he met the original holy goaly who was talking to someone else ffs, I went to different schools as elvis so a did.

He has a pop at me about contradicting myself, while he’s too sick to buy a season ticket but managed to catch both the European games, and knows everyone but met none, a lot of empty claims is all I see. He’s discussed people and places he knows, big deal.

    How you doing?

I am not proud of it, but I do enjoy seeing the zombies suffer, so when they lose, I sometimes pop on to Zombiemedia … nothing cheers me up as much as a herd of hurting huns…. but I can only take it in small doses .before that place makes my skin crawl …

As for my other point … I think everything a person needs to learn about life can be found in The Godfather …. or Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

  18. Hi folks,

Very irregular poster, but lurk quite a bit.

I have to say I really like how Brendan is going about his transfer business.

Each signing seems to have a purpose, and will improve the starting xi. (Dembele may start quite a few games on bench this season, but stills looks like he will be a very good acquisition)

Toure has looked good at the back. We are still leaking some poor goals but I think we will improve defensively in the coming weeks.

Sinclair has brought real pace and movement and a real goal threat.

DeVries, I don’t know enough about to say if he will be an improvement on Gordon, but we definitely needed to bring in a keeper. Craig was excellent in his first few months but following the mistakes against Inter, seemed to regress big time.

The right back we seem certain to sign is another I don’t know much about, but again we needed someone brought in for this position. Costa rica were excellent at the last World Cup, and hopefully this guy can prove good for us.

I’m not against signing young players who we can develop and sell on for profit, but they should be good enough to come in and improve the team and get better from there. Better to sign 1 or 2 who will play , than hoover up cheap young players who never look like being good enough.

There is now real pace in the team, players like Forrest and Brown have started well , with signs that Bitton may play like we know he can.

And we attack with purpose. We genuinely look like we can create chances to score each time we go forward.

It’s shaping up to be quite a season!!

HH. Can’t promise I’ll be a regular poster, but I’ll be reading here regularly.

P.S. I remember the first time I posted on here, around that time I noticed Tommy Gemmell was on posting, I was gonna ask if it was really him but didn’t want to look foolish, but have seen him on here occasionally since. Great to have a Lisbon Lion on the blog.

For the res12 guys, avoid the temptation to get caught up in debates with the l5 monkies. Their purpose is creating hassle for you and engaging with them feeds that. Only the hard of thinking on here take any notice of them. Let them blow themselves out.

  20. I don’t know whether Kill Ultra is a Troll or a genuine Tim.

But for the moment I will give him the benefit of the doubt and assume he is a Tim.

So now Kill Ultra I am addressing you as a fellow Tim.

Can you not see that the overwhelming majority of posters here trust & respect the Res 12 bhoys.

OK, you may share a different approach which is your prerogative.

However coming on here with your single issue topic repeating yourself endlessly is boring and annoying. It is also rude & selfish. The rest of your fellow Tims are on here attempting to debate, learn, amuse and just chew the fat on a whole range of different issues.

If you have a problem with a couple of posters, take it offline, why are you subjecting the rest of us to this personal spat.

If you want to join the general Celtic chat then fine but at the moment in my opinion you are just being disruptive & spoiling the blog for the rest of us.
