Evidence mounts as Celtic look set to further improve

930

I’d a look at the fixture list preseason and didn’t expect we’d be top of the table so early, having played only three games with 10 teams having played four, and two of those games coming against our nearest challengers from last season.

But we stepped up to the task. The earlier win at Tynecastle and beating Aberdeen 4-1 on Saturday has issued a warning to all. Bookmakers are offering Celtic’s title odds of between 2/9 and 1/7, and have created a separate ‘Betting without Celtic’ competition. One of Brendan’s jobs will be to remind players that they need to earn the points every time the whistle goes. Defeats come quickly to teams operating at 95%.

Not that we had it all our own way on Saturday. Aberdeen disrupted our rhythm and passing in the middle part of the game. You can see how Brendan has changed the way we use the ball in possession, but there’s still a bit of work to do for it to become more natural looking.

The goals were outstanding. Leigh Griffiths’ effort would be immortalised in song, if one of the Barcelona players due to visit Celtic Park soon had managed it. Tom Rogic’s technique is of particular importance.

Celtic face a lot of packed defences; having someone able to reliably hit an unstoppable shot from around 22 yards changes how a defence will shape up to play us. This is a player Leeds United thought they could buy for £1m recently.

I was pleased to see Dorus de Vries make his debut. He had little to do, and could do nothing about the Aberdeen goal, but if he’s to be relied upon in any of the important games ahead he needed an outing as a Celtic player.

It was equally important Erik Sviatchenko came through 90 minutes with Kolo Toure. The defence is set for some almighty challenges ahead, and will need to face them with little common game-time to allow partnerships to be cemented.

There’s a degree of trepidation for the Champions League task ahead, but pretenders to our domestic dominance beware: evidence mounts that this is a good Celtic team – one which will continue to improve for some time to come.

+ the Hun Monkeys have now seen behind the curtain and realised the Magic Hat’s just the Wizard of Baws.

Reality is setting into the thicko’s staunchness, and the orange is getting more bitter than ever.

    Suck it up, animals.

  2. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

Evening all. Back in the day when CQN was a pup I used to enjoy outing trolls. To be fair they were mostly a dumb lot then.

Older now and can’t be bothered.

Am not going to mention the poster by moniker, but, my experience of Celtic fans on here is, no matter how strongly held their views, they invariably sense the mood music and eventually try to reconcile with those with whom they strongly disagree.

Its a mutual respect thing that comes from being a genuine part of the Celtic family.

This guy doesn’t. Don’t know if he is level5 or not. ….

… But I am certain he doesn’t respect the celts he is arguing with.

    Hail hail

  3. I wondered what the main topics would be during International fortnight!

The only one I had ruled out was direct football commentary!

No complaints from me. The variety of interests expressed on here make CQN what it is and Celtic , Celtic.

  5. Kill Ultra,

I’m not getting involved in any personal arguments, but there are other blogs who say that you are Stephen Kerr and that you work for Level 5. They also say that your Twitter account has been suspended.

Would you be good enough to tell us if there is any truth in any of this?

  6. Good evening

    Two questions…

Have we signed West Brom missfit Gamboa yet?

Has Senderos ‘won’ a contract with Zombie Nation yet?

    B-)

  7. Evening champions…..four to wan….awfy braw….

Well done to all involved in Griff,s t shirt commemoration…. A beautiful goal for a beautiful sentiment….

    RIP….Keirran.

Speed speed and lashing s of acceleration….. Celtic fc. Stepping on the gas….

    Braw.

PS……P67 your jobbie detector is no working….we could have a wee raffle for a new wan !!!!

    Smiley thing..

Kill Ultra, do you have ZTP ringtone, if no, yer a hun:_)

Sorry to see mat nilic go, no more evenings for me to rip the pish oota him as his missus.

Still eight million tones to distribute to good homes with more in reserve if required. Get some in. They dont like it up em.

  9. Kill Ultra, what facts, I haven’t seen you post a single fact, not one.

Indeed you stated your identity was known to Canamalar and Auldhied, yet it is not.

You always come back to a question with a question.

Do you have any proof for your accusation.

I need no proof to trust these guys, you make a specific accusation, now back it up with facts, or are you just making it up?

Post the facts, not opinions or supposition mind, facts, provable facts. You know evidence that cannot be refuted.

    Not one so far.

  10. I never engage with the obvious trolls.

A few have responded to my posts but i never read as when i see them responding to my moniker i scroll past.

Lets just keep the next few being about days praising Brendan the team and signings.

    Everything else is irrelevant.

  11. I mentioned on the last thread that the MSM were beginning to see what’s been staring them in the face since Brendan’s appointment.

Tom English stated that we would be over the hill and far away from the best of the rest.

My paraphrased words, but you get the sense.

Now Neil Cameron in the Herald is having a wee jibe at Joseph Barton.

IF ONLY Joey Barton was as attention-grabbing on the pitch as he is off it then maybe Rangers would be seeing some value for their money right now.

Sadly for the self-styled best player in Scotland, someone who would walk into our national team, and the man in a different league to Scott Brown, he is not cutting it.

The 33-year-old Liverpudlian was awful at Rugby Park on Friday and yet was only substituted because he was already on a yellow card. Indeed, his only memorable moment came when Kilmarnock’s Greg Taylor put in a dreadful challenge on him which resulted in a deserved straight dismissal. Apart from that incident and a couple of touches, you could easily have forgotten he was on the pitch.

  12. International break this weekend?!

I could’nt even tell you what games are on.

    Not interested.

It sounds like Cristian Gamboa is a done deal. Sporting Life reporting everything agreed, medical done & just the paperwork to go through.

The speed we will have in this team…

I saw u posting last night about your football career?

How long ago was it you graced the Holy ground , at Recreation Park Winchburgh?

I strutted my stuff there for many years before being head hunted to play for Brigeness BC in Bo’ness .

Ah, the memories….. Where did it all go wrong?

HH bud, hope u are well

  17. From BBC’s Chris McLaughlin

Celtic are close to signing West Brom right-back Cristian Gamboa.

The 26-year-old Costa Rican is having a medical in Glasgow on Monday after both clubs agreed a fee, BBC Scotland has learned.

Gamboa, who has made more than 160 club appearances, has previously played in Denmark and Norway and has won 47 caps for his country.

He played all five of Costa Rica’s games as they reached the 2014 World Cup quarter-finals in Brazil

Dear o Dear the amount of bull this station will spew in an attempt to cover another newco omnishambles !

The Zombies were trying to protect his career lol !!

Big Lesscott shud call them out for what they are a lying cheating dishonest tribute act.

  22. I see 2, yes TWO, men have been arrested for sectarian singing at the Kilmarnock The Rangers game on Friday night.

Good to see the police have acted swiftly and decisively.

We can console ourselves that it wasn’t a choir I heard.

    Just a loud duet.

  23. This is the key season for them and already they fear the outcome. There is a consensus they are not good enough and warbuttons gambles on Barton and Kranjcar has backfired both in a football manner and financially.

A defeat on 10th September will see them implode with their support behaving like the remnants of an orange parade. The plan A is not really a plan when all opposition teams know how they will play in advance and Plan B is Plan A with subs.

What little money they have has been blown this season. They have players under contract now who will be there for 2 seasons and without Europe they have a millstone rounded their neck next summer.

Celtic will grow stronger under Brendan as he raises the bar for every player already there and new signings will also prosper. With proper backing from Dermot he can continue to strengthen this window and at Christmas. Further CL qualification next season under the existing rules will allow Brendan to develop the team vision he has. In 3 seasons I would expect Brendan to have turned Celtic into a full CL club ready for the change to come.

The CL changes with more money from 2018/19 does not address the fundamental issue European clubs have versus the EPL. A West Ham can go and buy a striker in Italy for £25M without even thinking about it. EPL clubs can buy any player in Europe outwith Barca, Real and Bayern. The only solution for the Euro clubs is to try and match the EPL with their own league.

Their has been an attempt by the American guy behind the ICC to sound out the Big 4 English clubs. However they would be concerned about being in a Euro league as they have much to lose against teams which they have struggled against in recent years. The recent changes actually helped the EPL clubs as they keep the EPL and have their Euro places guaranteed. Why should they go for a euro league.

I have no crystal ball as to how it will develop but we need to continue our development under Brendan and with political connections be close to and influence change.

As well as TIAR they fear Celtic as a name synonymous with European Football being invited thru some conspiracy to the big table ; their name is only remembered for a club who thankfully disappeared because of the number of European cities that they pillaged over the years.

This is the season where it is all at stake for them. I feel they have already stretched themselves to the financial limit when they couldn’t afford Lescott and Senderos wages are also proving difficult to cover. I hope Preston Noth End have suitable safety clauses in the contract if Sevco default on payments and these were registered with the SFA including cancellation of transfer and return of player. Of course any money paid would be kept by PNE.

A league cup semi final will be arranged to keep the lights on at Ibrox. However as they disintegrate under Warbuton —it will really be cruel to be kind.

The collapse under the Magic Hat will be hilarious and will bring back fond memories of the 50 year old apprentice boy who blew £50 M to win a pub league.
