Examining sentiment ineffective governance

587

You’ll remember the days of the season ticket waiting list. Then came the imaginary waiting list, which existed a while after seats were openly available. Now anyone can browse onto the Celtic web site and view exactly how many seats are available, and where, inside Celtic Park. It tells a fascinating story.

There’s the odd solitary seat and a few hundred with restricted views but that aside only the previously-closed part of the Lisbon Lions upper is not subscribed – and a significant number of tickets there will not include games against Newco, who are likely to ask for their entire entitlement according to league rules.

We’ve not seen anything like this since 1995 when Celtic Park reopened. Season 1994-95, at 34,000 capacity Hampden, was far from inspiring. We didn’t even sell-out a late-season game against Oldco, but Fergus had mortgaged our future on a partly-built 40,000 seater stadium, with projects underway to finish the job.

I looked at the empty seats at Hampden that day in 1995 and wondered if Fergus had blown his money. It didn’t look possible that we’d come anywhere close to filling a much larger stadium. As last season came to an end today’s ticket bonanza looked equally unlikely (although I did expect a pick-up).

Sometimes it doesn’t pay to examine sentiment too closely, just be grateful when you have it and know that it can change quickly when it’s against you.

Noting the increase in match day traffic around Celtic Park, you have to wonder how many millions of man hours will be wasted sitting in immobile cars and buses because Police Scotland no longer man traffic lights to allow spectators to leave the area quickly after events.

That’s another cost of our Offensive Behaviour’ Bill. Ponder that when you’ve moved 1 mile in an hour next season. Event-related gridlocks are another manifestation of ineffective governance. For decades police had budget to control traffic junctions at major events, not any more, in Scotland, anyway.

  4. Stoksey was a good servant to the Club. He did well for us over the years but its best for both player & Club that he moves on. I am thrilled that his final match albeit on loan at Hibs was a major Hun Skelping feat.

A genuine Tim, he got to wear the jersey, he goes with my thanks & best wishes,

  5. Ever since I was a wean, I could never fathom out why the hun were so against people crossing themselfs.

I would have thought that they themselfs being Christians, no laughing at the back please, and worshiped God and his son they wouldn’t be averse to the cross.

It seems I was wrong then.

Many years ago I worked in the County Buildings in Hamilton Strathclyde Regional Council, I was 19 I think and my old Mum had bought me a silver crucifix for my birthday, it was a kinda modern looking thing and I liked it even though I din’t go to chapel by then. Big Cjristian guy on my floor clocks it one day, not a football guy in any way at all and storms over and tells me to put it under my shirt as it was an offence to him. Now if I remember correctly he was a born again Christian and I couldn’t for the life of me understand his ire although I should have known when I saw they had all the catholics on that floor in one section:))

Six months later at the Christmas party I went off to a quiet spot to do a wee thing and who do I see rattling the filing cabinets with one of the young lassies but the big chap himself ( married with children this Christian).

Imagine my delight at being able to flaunt my crucifix for the remainder of my stay!

    Help me Jesus help me:))

Good evening CQN, for the first time in many years, I find myself out of contract with BT (broadband and calls) and Sky (full tv package) simultaneously and therefore in a good bargaining positioning.

I am currently paying way too much to both as my previously agreed discounts have expired and, having done hee haw about that for a few months am keen to fix in next day or so.

I also have an option to use Virgin Media who have been live in our area for a year or so and they are very persistent in sending offers of deals which look attractive.

Just wondering if anyone has any ideas or knowledge to share to help me make a good financial decision and any replies will be gratefully received.

PS, busy or not, my season ticket in the North Stand Upper was renewed long before the deadline day ☘

If Warby is leaving and getting replaced by Weir, keep an eye out for stories in the MSM about what a great job Weir has been doing, what a great coach he is and how he was the real brains behind their amazingly successful season.

    Hi Fellow Celtic Fans,

I sincerely hope that we will, led by the Green Brigade, be singing with some gusto a suitably tweaked version of Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel’s ‘(Come up and see me) Make me smile’ whenever we meet and give a Brendan-Rodgers-inspired football lesson to the The Rangers next season. I also hope they play it over the tannoy before every game we play them! Perhaps we could also buy it and get it to #1, just to wind them up? :-)

    ……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..

I’ve listened to it a few times since and think there might be someihing in his suggestion.

They are absolutely right of course. The kind of ‘Prodesint’ that comes out with such banality doesn’t have a Christian bone in their body.

  22. My friends in Celtic,

I’m surprised by anybody being surprised about Anthony Stokes leaving Celtic.

I wish him good luck and best wishes, but I would ask anybody being surprised to scroll way back to when he played for us and check out the comments on here.

A great pity imo because he has sold himself short.

IMO Virgin give a great service and great internet speed. The XL package gives you ( currently) BT sports for free. However there are so many different deals make sure you pick the correct one. Even the Virgin staff seem unaware of some of the advertised deals.

Hail, Hail. The thunder is nearly upon us and I’m not talking weather.
