Examining sentiment ineffective governance

587

You’ll remember the days of the season ticket waiting list. Then came the imaginary waiting list, which existed a while after seats were openly available. Now anyone can browse onto the Celtic web site and view exactly how many seats are available, and where, inside Celtic Park. It tells a fascinating story.

There’s the odd solitary seat and a few hundred with restricted views but that aside only the previously-closed part of the Lisbon Lions upper is not subscribed – and a significant number of tickets there will not include games against Newco, who are likely to ask for their entire entitlement according to league rules.

We’ve not seen anything like this since 1995 when Celtic Park reopened. Season 1994-95, at 34,000 capacity Hampden, was far from inspiring. We didn’t even sell-out a late-season game against Oldco, but Fergus had mortgaged our future on a partly-built 40,000 seater stadium, with projects underway to finish the job.

I looked at the empty seats at Hampden that day in 1995 and wondered if Fergus had blown his money. It didn’t look possible that we’d come anywhere close to filling a much larger stadium. As last season came to an end today’s ticket bonanza looked equally unlikely (although I did expect a pick-up).

Sometimes it doesn’t pay to examine sentiment too closely, just be grateful when you have it and know that it can change quickly when it’s against you.

Noting the increase in match day traffic around Celtic Park, you have to wonder how many millions of man hours will be wasted sitting in immobile cars and buses because Police Scotland no longer man traffic lights to allow spectators to leave the area quickly after events.

That’s another cost of our Offensive Behaviour’ Bill. Ponder that when you’ve moved 1 mile in an hour next season. Event-related gridlocks are another manifestation of ineffective governance. For decades police had budget to control traffic junctions at major events, not any more, in Scotland, anyway.

Yeah at least he has a decent record and when in the mood can be a great wee player compared to some of the very poor footballers we have signed pretending to be strikers. The old joke about us signing non goal scoring goal scorers.

Lots of wasted money. I think, I can think of 4 or 5 decent ones, Hooper, Skippy, Zurawski(at a stretch), Griff and stokes but apart from those guys since BBJ,Sutton and KOK its been poor fair.

STARRY PLOUGH. Fella you may well be right but Celtic should be looking for a fee not letting him go free if that is true. H.H.

Why Joe, in case we collapse financially, it’s obvious Anto is persona no grata at Paradise, he’s been got rid of in the quickest manner..

Job done for both parties, Anto is the least of our worries..

Brendan (hopefully) seems to far more of a man manager than a system coach. Players who’ve worked with him say he got the best out of them by spending enough time with each of them individually to help them improve and develop. That’s not possible with a big squad full of raw players, or older ones who don’t want to listen.

Let’s hope for a lean squad full of hungry players keen to learn

Starry plough. Why you ask ? well suppose we could get £500000 for the player that equates to 1000 season tickets at £500 each and I think we could get £500000 for the player. However if we let him walk away free that is in my mind 1000 season tickets wasted. Im an older Celtic supporter and believe in watching the pennies and the pounds will look after themselves tell me where we could go and get a striker of his ability free ? In my opinion it is wasteful but hey ho its not the boards money its the supporters. H.H.

  14. Just a quick one on Stokesy – about to be given a deluxe guided tour of Prague.

Stokes has one year left on his contract.

Celtic is duty bound to pay him this, even if he found a club wanting to sign him.

    I don’t know his salary – lets say £12k/week = £600k/year.

So if we could get £600k for him – we would only be handing it back to him for ending his contract – there may even be a penalty for early termination.

So by negotiation he can have a free transfer and command and keep the transfer/signing-on fee from a new club.

Never mind apologies from anyone to PLC. I hope if/when a statement comes it includes an apology to the Requisitioners for the club dragging it’s heels. 3 years they have been in the loop and they weeee all to aware of the reports being lodged with UEFA. There is no acceptable reason for their continued silence/stalling!

So no I will not apologise when it finally seeps out but will welcome a strong forceful backing of the requisitioners position and Resolution 12.

I’ll bet any money the guardian chose not to publish due to pressure from level 5 PR and a deluge of hair brain Rangers supporting fellows taking up fevered correspondence.

They will have been directed to Twitter and asked to review the debate on previous TJN and STv posts and they will have wondered if they want to provide the platform for toxic debate.

Yeah, They are the bully boys right enough, You wonder if its a matter of “ach its more hassle than its worth to the media” and they ditch it and look for an easy story to appease the crazies.

But if Celtic don’t comment then why? and why the delay? I can totally see why people think the board are complicit. I’m not so sure, Why back the cheats even in secret? they have stole from us.

  27. I seem to recall only a short time ago certainly in the last year The Guardian being morally outraged when the numerous “alleged” Telegraph cosy relationships between Advertisers and Editorial “positive news stories” and subverting Advertisers bad news stories, were doing the rounds.

  29. Stoksey’s contract is up but we have an option for an extra year. If we take up the option & Stoksey plays hardball on a transfer, Celtic could be stuck for a years wages.

There is no doubt that he wouldn’t take too kindly to Celtic just taking the option for the sole purpose of selling him. If he is a free agent he will get better terms or a signing on fee. I suspect there has been discussions between Agent & Celtic.

I reckon Celtic felt the safest route was not to take up the option. If Celtic could have safely made 500k they most certainly would have.

Talking of Leigh Griffith’s desire to get 100 goals for Celtic ahead of Kris Commons (Leigh is currently on 77 goals with the Hoops and Kris has 91) they then calculated that he needed just 33 (sic) goals to reach his target.
