Examining sentiment ineffective governance

587

You’ll remember the days of the season ticket waiting list. Then came the imaginary waiting list, which existed a while after seats were openly available. Now anyone can browse onto the Celtic web site and view exactly how many seats are available, and where, inside Celtic Park. It tells a fascinating story.

There’s the odd solitary seat and a few hundred with restricted views but that aside only the previously-closed part of the Lisbon Lions upper is not subscribed – and a significant number of tickets there will not include games against Newco, who are likely to ask for their entire entitlement according to league rules.

We’ve not seen anything like this since 1995 when Celtic Park reopened. Season 1994-95, at 34,000 capacity Hampden, was far from inspiring. We didn’t even sell-out a late-season game against Oldco, but Fergus had mortgaged our future on a partly-built 40,000 seater stadium, with projects underway to finish the job.

I looked at the empty seats at Hampden that day in 1995 and wondered if Fergus had blown his money. It didn’t look possible that we’d come anywhere close to filling a much larger stadium. As last season came to an end today’s ticket bonanza looked equally unlikely (although I did expect a pick-up).

Sometimes it doesn’t pay to examine sentiment too closely, just be grateful when you have it and know that it can change quickly when it’s against you.

Noting the increase in match day traffic around Celtic Park, you have to wonder how many millions of man hours will be wasted sitting in immobile cars and buses because Police Scotland no longer man traffic lights to allow spectators to leave the area quickly after events.

That’s another cost of our Offensive Behaviour’ Bill. Ponder that when you’ve moved 1 mile in an hour next season. Event-related gridlocks are another manifestation of ineffective governance. For decades police had budget to control traffic junctions at major events, not any more, in Scotland, anyway.

Would imagine they will publish a report this month. Just as an aside though it looks to me that the cost in legal fees for the ‘Part 7’ litigation, (against Collyer Bristol), which netted £24m cost around £6m in legal fees. (Assets £24m November 2014 – £18m + June 2015).

Nice work if you can get it!

    Guardian refusal.

    Our Board’s inexplicable silence.

    Court cases thrown out.

    LNS.

    SFA protection.

    UEFA silence.

    Mmmmmm

Maybe they really are the people.

Wow – strange from the Guardian.

I doubt if the SFA would do much advertising with them.

I’d imagine the FA would do quite a bit…..

Maria Sharapova should not be banned because:

    a) It was only an administrative error.

    b) She gained no sporting advantage.

    c) She has missed some tournaments through injury and so has been punished enough already.

    d) She won all her matches on the court.

    e) Tennis needs a strong Maria Sharapova.

    f) It’s time to move on.

    g) Juninho had an EBT.

    h) It was all Craig Whyte’s fault.

    i) She should be fined, but not have to bother paying the fine.

    j) She should be banned, but allowed to compete as The Maria Sharapova and then allowed to drop the “The”.

  5. Celtic are going to release Anthony Stokes imminently. #SPFL

Probably hibs I would imagine of maybe to stubbsy new adventure.

  6. Sad to say that it looks like the CFC Board are going to say nothing. Lots of `jam tomorrow` hints, but as of yet, nowt. Again I can understand MWD, Neganon etc asking Paul for a wee statement as to where it stands. Or Auldheid to state if it`s definitely going to happen (or not). If it`s in the `not` category thousands have been duped, for want of a better word. Shame

  7. In my correspondence with WINNING CAPTAINS he is absolutely sure Celtic will make a statement on Resolution 12 as are the other “resolutioners”.

So when and not if this happens will all of the people who called out the board, Paul67 et al come back on the blog and prostrate themselves in apology? :-0)))

Strange if true re Stokes,1 year left we could get 500-750k from a Championship club easily

  9. Guardian refusal to print.

Like everything on the surface of the globe, follow (apols for pun) the money.

Or in this case, the Guardian stands to lose money.

    So then, from whom?

  10. !!Bada Bing!! on

BSR-does seem strange if true,The Heid at Wigan might have paid 500k for him….

Regarding the new format for the Challenge Cup.(The diddiest of diddies, as opposed to the holiest of holies).

Any bets on Linfield being drawn at home to Neil Lennon’s Hibs?

  12. It also might be worth investigating who exactly higher up in the paper’s command chain could be responsible for the resounding kebosh.

    That could provide the why.

  13. Celtic WILL do what they have said they will do. And they have said it.

That means writing to UEFA (which may very well have happened already) and also issuing a statement (which will be on the official site).

This has nothing to do with season ticket sales, good, bad or indifferent.

However, having met with prominent Celtic supporters to outline this position several weeks ago, the club cannot hope to keep a lid on this for much longer.

    Now is the time.

I read somewhere else that there was an option for another year that we didn’t take up.

he could probably do with the signing on fee that he wouldn’t get if there was a transfer, so I’m guessing it’s easier for everyone not to have an unhappy player being paid a fair wedge waiting for the extra year to finish. And I reckon it’s best for everyone if he’s not around any more

Stokes one is weird. Unless its made up that is. If it’s true I take it Brendan has his eye on a few strikers. Only leaves our Griff with Cole, Cifti, CKR, Scep and Stokes all surplus to requirement we need at least 2 new ones in and young Micky to step up when needed.

I know its early but the chances of signing a player before the euro’s will be slim and after it the prices inflate. Tough year for rebuilding for Brendan unless he really is going to have us running with a minimum squad.

MD we are fine and at the back we are ok, But nothing up top.

When you consider the number of donkeys we have signed as strikers and the amount of money we spent on them.To give Stoksie a free transfer to me is just stupid and wasteful if true. This for me does not augur well Stoksie is not the best in the World but he is not the worst either. H.H.
