Examining sentiment ineffective governance

587

You’ll remember the days of the season ticket waiting list. Then came the imaginary waiting list, which existed a while after seats were openly available. Now anyone can browse onto the Celtic web site and view exactly how many seats are available, and where, inside Celtic Park. It tells a fascinating story.

There’s the odd solitary seat and a few hundred with restricted views but that aside only the previously-closed part of the Lisbon Lions upper is not subscribed – and a significant number of tickets there will not include games against Newco, who are likely to ask for their entire entitlement according to league rules.

We’ve not seen anything like this since 1995 when Celtic Park reopened. Season 1994-95, at 34,000 capacity Hampden, was far from inspiring. We didn’t even sell-out a late-season game against Oldco, but Fergus had mortgaged our future on a partly-built 40,000 seater stadium, with projects underway to finish the job.

I looked at the empty seats at Hampden that day in 1995 and wondered if Fergus had blown his money. It didn’t look possible that we’d come anywhere close to filling a much larger stadium. As last season came to an end today’s ticket bonanza looked equally unlikely (although I did expect a pick-up).

Sometimes it doesn’t pay to examine sentiment too closely, just be grateful when you have it and know that it can change quickly when it’s against you.

Noting the increase in match day traffic around Celtic Park, you have to wonder how many millions of man hours will be wasted sitting in immobile cars and buses because Police Scotland no longer man traffic lights to allow spectators to leave the area quickly after events.

That’s another cost of our Offensive Behaviour’ Bill. Ponder that when you’ve moved 1 mile in an hour next season. Event-related gridlocks are another manifestation of ineffective governance. For decades police had budget to control traffic junctions at major events, not any more, in Scotland, anyway.

Best wishes to Stokes wherever he ends up.

Could and should have been a better player than he is……so much talent but seems to lack that wee bit of drive, professionalism and edge that can make a difference.

It would have been worth keeping him at Paradise though just for the pleasure of playing him against the huns so we could see Tavernier and Kiernan trembling in the tunnel before Stoksey went out to rip them apart again lol :)

Any news on whether those 2 are sleeping at night yet?

Thanks for the memories Stokesy…….not only for us……but for your work at Hibs :)

Yeah , standing section kicks in this season.

Capacity reduced by 200 odds due to barriers on either side of standing section

  9. So I wonder if Koeman will raid Southampton for any of our ex’es, I hope Pedro got a decent sell on %.

I read that VvD has a £30 mill trigger, even 10% of that would do fine, throw in Vic and big Fraser and Pedros bonus will be sorted for a day or so.

A month later they put it up by 2:50

as Sky had increased Sports package

I phoned them up told them to feck off my contract was with Virgin

after first punter spoke to section head ?

Said i would have to pay 2:50 but she could give me additional

    discout of 9:50 ??????

So ended up Another 7 pound off

In meantime SKY who i dumped and told i was dumpimg

have had to be blocked as they kept phoning lowest package

they were offeing was twelve pounds 50p

presume without Sports… couldnt take as contract with virgin.

FINALLY Note I had Bt through SKY when I cancelled SKy

I thought that was that.. BT kept charging me for

package even although i was getting free now from Virgin

even VIRGIN guy didnt know that one so watch if you cancel

SKY…BT wil still charge if you dont tell them otherwise.

PS when i called BT they said I should have called them first s they

would give me a cracking deal.

Thank you. I presume it has sold out? Should help with the atmosphere at ` ordinary` League games.

I have to say, I am a wee bit concerned that if Brendan does not start with immediate success , the all too eager positivity will dissipate all too quickly.

  13. When I was 16, I was on a hitch hiking holiday staying in Youth Hostels. Ended up in YMCA Hall in Belfast. To a Cork kid YMCA means only one thing Young Men’s Catholic Association. Hall was divided in 2, lower half local kids playing snooker & Table Tennis, upper half hitch hikers mostly Scottish Tims & a few Southerners having a harmless sing song. Yours truly was asked to sing, I obliged with Sean South,

Suddenly we were surrounded, in my innocence I said what’s the issue aren’t ye Catholics, I actually still think I saw smoke coming out through their ears as the ring leader uttered the immortal words,

“We’re Fuckin Chrisjins, thats why we’re not Catliks, We’re Fuckin Chrisjins”.

This is a totally true story, almost as the first blows rained in on us, the door flew open, half a dozen big Dubs, bikes on their shoulders came in, I still don’t know how they distinguished North from South but they piled in on our side & scattered the Huns.

The Huns re-organised outside and the Hall was under a hail of bricks for the night,

It went quiet about 4 or 5 am, We waited till about 6 and got to f**k out of the place pronto.

Incidentally, I bumped into Nir Biton in Glasgow Airport a couple of weeks ago. Apparently he missed the final game through injury. Interestingly, he seemed to be aware that the support was split on their views of him. He seemed to grasp that some like the ` get intae them` style whilst others preferred the `footballers`.

Of course, ideally we would have` footballers` who could `get intae them! `.

He was a very decent guy.

    `night all,

Hi folks, just registered and looking for some advice. Bought a number of Lions memorabilia with my redundancy 6 years ago as an investment. All signed and verified. Ideally wanted to keep hold of it, at least til post 50th anniversary, but friends 5 year old daughter has leukaemia and needs funds to get to the states in the next 8 weeks. So need to know where the best place is to auction this stuff or does anyone want to purchase it as we need cash asap.
