Failed Rangers board want control again

296

With genuine news stories on Rangers breaking several times a day, recriminations for past failures have understandably taken a backseat to current events, although Sir David Murray and Our Hero have experienced a taster of what is to come.

When the buzz of excitement dies down people will start to ask, ‘Whose fault is this awful mess?’  Board-level management at most public companies includes both executive and non-executive directors.  The executives, commonly: chief executive, financial director, and others depending on industry, such as: commercial, technical, HR, run the business on a day-to-day basis.  Non-executives are there to ensure the business is on the right course and to act as guardians of shareholders’ interests.

Wikipedia gives a useful summary for non-executive responsibility, specifically for: strategy, performance, risk and people.

Risk is the word I would like to draw your attention to here.  Wikipedia suggests:

“Non-executive directors should satisfy themselves that financial information is accurate and that financial controls and systems of risk management are robust and defensible”.

Former Rangers non-executive director, Paul Murray, didn’t have any responsibility for team matters.  He wasn’t the man charged with preparing accounts.  Health and Safety were not his remit.  Paul Murray’s duty was to ensure that financial information was accurate and that financial controls and systems of risk management were robust and defensible.

Risk management!  This is the guy who yesterday told the media he was keen to setup a rival bid for Rangers.  Good grief!  It was his job to ask questions of the financial arrangements at the club which other shareholders were unable to ask.  He was there to dig deeply enough into these matters to satisfy himself that the executive directors of the club were dealing with financial matters appropriately.

Whether they win the First Tier Tribunal or not, Rangers have already paid a heavy price for this tax issue, responsibility for which rests squarely on the shoulders of the non-executives who enjoyed the prestige of being a Rangers director (I know) but failed to carry out their duties to a standard that protected the club from meltdown.

Give him the job!

One final push (this week) for the Vanessa Riddle Appeal. We have a Celtic top signed by the first team squad available to auction on eBay. You can bid on the auction and help send Vanessa for the treatment she needs by clicking here. Thanks to Penfold for the donation and to Taggsybhoy for organising (yet again).

There are still 5000 tickets still unsold for Saturdays game against Killie, it’s not about who will the money will go to, it’s not about demos, it’s not about complaining or moaning….. It’s about showing the team, the World, and the millions of Rangers who are scattered across the World, that we still love our Club and that we are right behind them, because We Are The People, We are Rangers till we Die, We will never Surrender no matter what obstacles are put in our path We are the biggest and Most successful Club in the World We are Simply the Best…

So let’s rally the troops everyone get to Ibrox on Saturday, and cheer on Ally and the Team, if the game sells out and you can’t get in, then support the team from outside let’s all stick together like we have done before in Barcelona in 1972 and in Manchester in 2008 lets show our detractors that we will not be put down

Don’t know if this has been mentioned before – but as there is no ruling yet on the big tax case it is not yet a debt. Therefore the HMRC would not be the biggest creditor – it would be CW. Not sure what would happen if the case goes against them whilst in administration.

Gaby sits there in her stockings and suspenders? What time is that on? I’d quite like to see that for myself. Just for comparison purposes of course…

  8. I brought this up a few times yesterday.

There is no way they can survive till the Summer if they don’t cancel the season tickets.

Its a simple statement of fact, the only place they can get money is through the gate, if they continue to allow thirty odd thousand people in for free* they are not going tio survive till next weekend.

    * I know they’ve already paid but that money is in hidden bank account somewhere and gone forever.

    BTW

Could Inverness make all the tickets they supplied to the huns null and void and issue new tickets available directly from them?

I assume you anticipated this scenario and had contingency plans to turbo boost the site’s capacity.

Perhaps though you could contact the SPL and offer them some guidance on what is required in these kind of situations.

  10. In this time of austerity brought upon the country by larger corporations who showed no concern for others in their financial recklessness, there is a certain irony that certain members of the elected chambers (and others) feel the need for HMRC to settle with rangers on a reduced figure,

the monies owed to HMRC are in fact my monies, your monies, our monies, it is such monies that maintain the countrys needs, it is monies that no one likes paying, but we do it, cos if we dont then not only do we face possible personal court actions, but overall the bigger picture is if we dont pay up we as a country end up at risk of meltdown, when the respective Governments at both London and Edinburgh are advising us “were all in this together” that budgets of all Public Service areas will require continual assessment and reduction, whilst people in the public and private sectors are losing their jobs, that larger and smaller businesses are struggling or going to the wall, all in one way or another linked to the financial recklessness and essentially the greed of larger corporations, are people seriously suggesting that in light of this HMRC should consider cutting a deal with public monies? 2012/13 is going to be an extremely difficult year in my household, can I approach Centre 1 Tax Office and ask for the same considerations?

  16. The bears are starting to wake up but it is far far far too late now. Far too late:

    ==========

    1) We owe money to 3 SPL clubs. We have Celtic with PL at the helm, Hearts with mad Vlad and Dundee Utd with Thompson who hates us. We only need 2 clubs to vote against re-instating us, and we’re out of the SPL. Seriously, Rangers out of the SPL? It doesn’t bare thinking about…unless the English idea somehow has legs.

    2) If we did get re-instated, we’d undoubtedly have mental restrictions and shackles put on us. Starting every season on minus 15 for 3 years for example.

    3) We wouldn’t have European football for 3 years minimum. Think about that. The co-efficient would drop to being below Wales and we (the new RFC 2012) wouldn’t have ANY points on the board. Jesus Christ, we would never ever qualify for Europe again. We’d have 4 qualifying rounds and not be seeded in any of them. There’s no chance we’d qualify, and obviously without qualifying, you can’t improve the co-efficient or the seeding. Europe would become a pipe dream. Imagine what that would do to the finances of the new club, and imagine what sort of player we would attract if the SPL is the only thing to win; a competition that by that stage is viewed on a par with the Albanian league.

Seriously. Liquidation cannot happen. It just can’t. We are not a Leeds. We need Europe.

Jesus, I’ll be setting up a justgiving fund before liquidation happens. The fans need to rally round and act, we need to get a figurehead on board, someone we can trust. Or at least the RST should be using this as an opportunity to do what they’ve always wanted to do.

  17. Surely the answer to the question “what money will the Administrator have to play with?” is that there’s still £15m left unused in that warchest in the corner.

Now, if only they could find a key to unlock it!!!

  18. Gene’s a Bhoys name says:

    15 February, 2012 at 10:33

That’s not correct. HMRC have presented the bill, so the money is owed. It’s being appealed.

As it stands, pending that appeal, Rangers owe HMRC £49M+ for the big tax case (which may be reduced if Rangers’ appeal successful), plus £2.8M for the wee tax case and £9M for unpayed VAT and PAYE.

  19. An HMRC statement read: “We can’t discuss specific cases for legal reasons but tax that has been deducted at source from the wages of players and support staff such as ground keepers and physios, must be paid over to HMRC.

“Any business that fails to meet that basic legal requirement puts the survival of the business at risk.”

Wark and Clements are anti-Catholic and anti-Celtic. Kirsty used a ceremony in which she was guest of honour with the task of presenting awards to Head Teachers, to attack Catholic schools. She was apparently devastated at 5 years old to be separated from her friend who went to a Catholic Primary. She didn’t mention if she or any of her friends were devastated at age 12 when she went on to Wellington School – a private school.

Wark and Clements made a documentary a few years ago on sectarianism. Many of you will remember a young teenage Celtic fan with a Tricolour singing “We love the IRA”. The shot was often used by BBC whenever sectarianism was topical. During the programme, they showed groups of young Celtic supporters acting daft and singing stupid songs which were offensive. On the other side, however, it was groups of mature men in their 30s and 40s who were singing very sectarian songs. However, it was passed off as one side is as bad as the other – but the shot of the young Celtic supporter is the only thing you still see from the programme. They made very selective use of wee daft laddies in green and white.

  26. Nothing is bugging me more at the minute than the constant references to der hun as “not Just a football club, but an insitution”. Every ^%&&%$^ report on tv, radio, comments that special treatment and consideration needs extended to preserve one of Scotland’s ‘institutions’

I can understand why the Scottish media continue to trot this nonsense out, it’s because 99% of them are a member. The BBC in England though? Radio 2? Gimme a break. An ‘institution’ that has been institutionally bereft of morality for 140 years or so, and who have more recently, systematically and with malice aforethought stolen from it’s fellow countryman, cheated in attaining trophies, entered Europe’s elite tournaments and did so with a significant number of their senior employess knowing it was happening.

It is quite fitting that such a corrupt ‘institution’ was sold on to an equally devious and cheating successor. A guy who has knowingly reneged on paying tax fom the moment he stepped into power. Who even yet, despite the worlds eyes being upon him, is still planning to escape in full view with money that was fraudulently obtained.

The KKK could be regarded as an institution, and I don’t think it is overly ridiculous to make a comparison between the two.

No, the media portray the meaning of ‘institution’ in the same way you would consider the World Health Organisation, i.e a vital role to play in local and global society. Then they sell it to gullible fools.

Most civilised countries would see this as the welcome death of a parasite, an opportunity to rid themselves of a disease that has held back the growth of tolerance, diversity, equality. The chance to move towards a golden age. Instead, the clamour is on to pressurise the government to take pity on this ‘institution’.

Don’t anyone ever try to convince me that offering life support to this particular ‘institution’ is the way forward. To any Celtic fan considering going on to Clyde1 or wherever, trotting out the ‘we need them line’, please think again. Many thousands of the Celtic family have suffered terribly at the hands of the hun following. Many are still grieving, and will do so until their dying breath.

As Rangers FC breathes it’s last, I shall have no pity, only gladness in my heart. I shall rejoice and so should the rest of normal civilisation.
