Faux precipice, the £30m man, fan shakedown

1204

Lots going on today, we’ll maybe have a second blog this evening on Craig Gordon, but for now….

Last month I wrote that Dave King’s Fit and Proper issue was a faux precipice.  If he was not found Fit and Proper he, “could easily appoint his own people to the PLC board, he would be able to attend board meetings and bark whatever orders necessary.”  This issue would not prevent King from investing in the club, or from gaining the kind of influence Mike Ashley had until recently.

There are no SFA rules which could prohibit an unfit and improper person from being the 100% owner of a club.  The matter is in the very literal sense, a formality.

Still, in passing such a tainted convict, who has already sat on the board of a club which sailed into liquidation, was subject to considerable criticism from an SPL judicial report, and had his honesty derided by a South African judge, the SFA, have made an improper decision.  It’s a marginal call whether our man is better working on the inside or taking nothing to do with it.  Neither option is satisfactory, the only permanent resolution to this scourge of the ages is to leave Scottish football behind.

For what it’s worth, I think King is utterly brilliant.  Sounding a bit like Rhett Butler in an interview with the Daily Record, he said, “Quite frankly I don’t give a damn what people say or write about me.  I will do whatever I think is best for me. The media and the fans will make no difference to my success or failure.”

Stand down all you psychological profilers.

The guy is perfect, how did he convince so many fans he was good for them?  Wait, I remember.  In the same article he said:

“The only way we can access that revenue is to compete with Celtic. To do that, in our first year back we are going to have to treble our wage bill as a minimum. Depending on how Dermot Desmond responds we may need to make it four times bigger.”

“First year back……. treble our wage bill…… minimum….. may need to make it four times bigger”.

He went on, “I have lost £20m in Rangers already and I’m happy to lose another £30m because I love the team”.

£30m.  Go for it, Dave, we’d all love to see it.  That would teach Celtic a lesson.

Here’s a few predictions.  The No Surrender to a perceived enemy days will be back in spades.  They need to dislodge Celtic, its influence and its support.  Expect bad PR when a fan illegally disposes of litter and the onslaughts against our CEO to continue.  They have not been able to lay a glove on Ronny for months, but wait until we draw a game at home.  Players should avoid camera phones, and Scott Brown should never sit down in public.  Anthony Stokes will be cautioned against use of a flagrantly Irish accent.

Whatever money is available will flood into the coffers in a desperate attempt to close the gap with Celtic, but there will be no trebling of wages or £30m investment.  Instead, the fans will be asked to stump up the big numbers.  In the event Mike Ashley is held in abeyance, the window between now and the money running out is critical.  I expect nothing more than a shambles, they don’t have the money or the intelligence to take Celtic on, but this is their one big play.  Celtic are ready.

Fancy winning two tickets for premium seats in the Jock Stein Stand for Trophy Day on Sunday, courtesy of Magners?  To win, email me the name of the Celtic keeper who won Sportswriters’ Player of the Year this season.  Put the name in the SUBJECT field of your email and send to celticquicknews@gmail.com

COMPETITION CLOSES AT 21:00 tonight, 20 May.

There was some stunning news today.  Mary’s Meals, a charity founded in Scotland 13 years ago, now feed over 1m children each day.  Almost three thousand of them are in schools funded by you in Malawi.  While entering the competition you might want to donate £1 to the Mary’s Meals pot here.

This success is partly yours, so read what you’ve done.

HMRC legally can’t pursue the new club for the old club’s debts, which ironically is proof positive that they ARE a new club.

It doesn’t matter what they believe. The old club were liquidated and no longer exist. HMRC know this and know they can’t touch the new club for the old club’s debts just because they CLAIM to be the same club.

I switched on the radio on Tuesday and caught that. I was slightly confused for the first 5 minutes because I thought it was a phone-in programme at first. I thought it was some drunk bam with anger issues and a persecution complex had called the programme. Then it turned out to be spokesperson for sevco, John Brown. He made various accusations of the presenters. In particular the accusation that Jim Spence was somehow biased against Dundee caught my attention. Now that is extreme paranoia. The guy is out of control. I wonder if he’s one of the “blue chip” appointments that Dave King will appoint…?

Guten Morgen from a dreich Munich. I’m not going to get my emotions in a fankle over thon deid club but I fear for Hibs. If they fail this season they may remain in that division for the foreseeable future. The zombies? Well they died and if they get back into the premier league they will just be another also ran club. The boat has sailed, no more corrupt BoS loans and no more EBT’s. They will still cheat and may pick up the odd trophy but those days of fraudulent financial doping have gone for ever. That’s why Sir Minty got rid of them. Long may King and his cohorts piss off big Mash, he’ll be like a slow undiagnosed haemorrhage which will eventually claim its victim.

    Their league and cup wins.

Do they start afresh, or do they continue to grow?

What do the SFA, UEFA and FIFA have to say?

Which club for instance currently holds the record for the Scottish league cup?

Have the Celtic Board stated the Club’s position on this?

Or would that not be the polite thing to do?

  18. Jungle Jim –

HMRC are experts at this and know the law. What would they have to enquire about? They know the old club were liquidated so that’s as far as they need to go.

A lot of people seem to be hung up on Newco supporters and indeed Newco themselves claiming to be the same club. Nobody can force them to stop thinking that or saying that. You can’t tie them all to a chair and put a gun to their heads.

They are a new club. That is a legal statement of fact due to their liquidation.

I would love it if Newco took someone – a journalist or newspaper etc – to court for saying they are a new club, but it won’t happen, because their own lawyers would tell them, and probably have already, that they haven’t a leg to stand on.

Best to just laugh at them because we know the truth.

From memory, not sure too many of us were bothered. – we were busy watching our team gub them. At the end of the game, he had that look you just described. Terrible affliction…. :-)

    Absolutely.

Brown was accusing the presenters of bias for daring to suggest the SFA should publish an explanation of their decision. He then accused them of not doing their jobs properly because they hadn’t raised questions about the suitability of Whyte and Green at the time. Exactly contradicting his previous utterance. This is one of the problems with morons – they don’t realise they’re morons. They think it’s everybody else that’s at fault.

When I was younger man games where the huns won or Celtic lost I took really badly I became mr.Grumpy and all around me suffered I made sure of that and I would get into all sorts of scrapes and arguements. Now im older and more mature I still love Celtic but I realise there are more important things in life than football.I dont want to see the Rangers in the SPL next season but it is outwith my control so I try to find something positive about the situation and for me it is the fact that it would bring more income in and perhaps allow us to buy a couple of quality players while at the same time it might keep VVD happy for another season. I think back at what a cretin I used to be and feel sorry for those who knew me at the time but the good Lords been good to me and he has changed me into a better person so I urge everyone try to remember there are many much more important things in life and remember it is only a game and a crooked one at that. You remind me. When we lost to ITC their sneers were out about us not winning a treble.

Imagine not winning three lower league championships in a row with the money they spent. I mean surely a treble there was a must, and let’s not mention the failure to make a clean sweep of all the lower tier competitions they played part in.

My comments re the Sportsound broadcast I think cover it. We are dealing with thinking totally alien to us……..

    From SFM

Just caught last night’s Sportsound spat between Tom English, Jim Spence v John Brown and D Ferguson.

How does anyone deal with the kind of muddled aggressive thinking displayed by Brown and Ferguson?

It’s like talking Mandarin to a Martian that communicates by bottom burps.

Asking for clarity is having a go. Attacking TRFC. Let’s move on.

Well we would if we thought our points were being understood never mind answered.

Richard Wilson seems to think this leaves no questions on Scottish governance.

Where has he been living the last 3 years?

It is secrecy or lack of transparency that allows the SFA to operate as it likes.

If integrity is to recovered then the SFA must be challenged on this front.

Imagine for example you had pretty compelling evidence of wrongdoing by a club and possible complicity by the SFA, how on earth could it ever surface if it could be ignored with impunity?

That is the challenge supporters face and I sense that in English and Spence and hopefully more there might be a readiness for some of our msm to push the accountability/ transparency agenda.

What is needed is a vehicle for doing so that ignores the muddlethink of Brown and presses ahead to achieve that aim.

It would be interesting to see if the msm split and on what lines if demand for SFA accountability and transparency not only refused not to move on but insisted on getting answers before it did.

The other point that came across loud and clear was that nothing else mattered to B and F as long as TRFC were ok.

You would think they only played first v second team every week and no other clubs existed.

  25. Ernienovel idea why do’nt you ask the SFA, UEFA,FIFA and even Celtic what their views are and maybe get back to us. H H Hebcelt

  26. My friends in Celtic,

If ” the Rangers” or any other other team with “Rangers” in its title does not gain entry to our premier league this year, it will be next year.

We need to know that this will happen, although we need not accept the reasoning.

If and when this happens, and I quote Paul 67 “Celtic will be ready”

However Celtic will be ready only if the supporters stand by our team. We have a very simple choice to make. Do we support out team or do we walk away ?

For me, although there are many, many aspects of Scottish football we are unhappy about ( and rightly so ) we either support our team, when they need us most or we, for want of a better word, desert them.

This will be the case, and I quote Paul 67 again “the only permanent resolution to this scourge of the ages is to leave Scottish football behind”

  29. The King verdict, in my opinion, must be based in the following;

    1) He was able to convince the panel that he did not ‘sit on his hands’ and let Craig Whyte drive the club into Liquidation.

    2) The panel held that he had ‘paid the price’ for his lawbreaking in SA and that to restrict him in legal pursuit of business in this country would breach his human rights.

However, what we all have a right to know, with the exception of documents of a confidential nature, is how the SFA came to their decision.

Everything that can be divulged, must be, in the interest of ALL parties within our ‘tuppence-halpenny’ Scottish game.
