Feeding the thousands, from Celtic to Southampton

507

News that Southampton FC have nominated Mary’s Meals as their official international charity partner is a genuine great football story, and a significant landmark for the Scottish-based charity which now feeds over a millions children per day.

Mary’s Meals were in touch on Friday with news and photographs from the fourth school kitchen paid for by Celtic Quick News readers, in Chibwata, Malawi. Since the kitchen was built, school enrolment has increased by 34% to 1226 pupils. Each day over 4,000 pupils are fed in school kitchens built by CQN readers.
Marys Meals Chibwata 600

The school role has increased because of the availability of a daily meal, but as well as being better fed and healthier, hundreds of pupils are now getting an education who previously missed out.  Benefits are not limited to food today, there are lifetime benefits of getting a primary education, which will help the pupils and the nation as a whole for decades.

Those of you who have put the occasional £1 into Appeal alongside the Magners’ competitions we run, or who have put significantly more than this on occasion, should be enormously proud of what you’ve achieved.  It is a stunning testament to the Celtic support.  Thanks for all your help.

Celtic have done enormous work with Mary’s Meals in the past through the Foundation but let’s hope this break into English football opens up many more opportunities for the charity.

I don`t think any irony is involved. There is a MASSIVE difference between having a laugh at the MSSM articles and in believing them.

Celtic quick news, not lazy journalism……the ethos behind the site ? yes

Sorry JJ never seen the humour in copying and pasting MSM tat

  2. Tgm,

    You’ve taken some leap there.

Arguing has never been suppressed on here. It’s what keeps the blog informative and healthy Imo.

What does annoy most people, and I think we can do without, is the personal attacks and insults on posters who are simply giving their opinion.

That said, posters who are simply trolling to annoy and be offensive are fair game :)

I take it as my morning entertainment of fun, taking anything serious from the SMSM is? Not a good road to go down, to believe the crap they print would be very, very silly, but to ignore it would be even More silly.

Celtic quick news not lazy copying and posting MSM tat

We have huge differences in what entertains us both Tony, the MSM especially in print is losing circulation sales year by year, they love the attention any of their sensationalized agenda driven s**** gets as it helps with sales………… i happily ignore them, it keeps me sane

PS the clumpany does it very well, excellent blogger

But you are right about personal insults.

I’m no angel, I’m just as bad as anybody on here.

However, we should all lighten up a bit.

Nir Bitton and the Phantom Quotes

Celtic midfielder Nir Bitton was splashed about the tabloids and Celtic Interweb yesterday as “quotes” from his agent surfaced about the players future.

As soon as I seen these comments and headlines I was more than a little skeptical about their origin. The player has just signed a long-term deal at the club so talk of him moving on so suddenly was definitely a strange one.

It turned out to be nothing more than tabloid gossip, feeling the need to quell this rumour Celtic issued a statement that read –

A spokesperson for Celtic said: “We were delighted to agree a new contract recently with Nir and very pleased that he has committed his long-term future to Celtic.

“We know nothing about these reports but as Nir himself has said, Celtic is where he wants to be.”

Rarely do Celtic comment on the speculation surrounding any of the players but on this occasion had to put the record straight.

However, while the club says he’s going nowhere that is also somewhat misleading. Celtic can’t predict the bids and teams that are going to come in for any of their top talents in January and the summer. If the right bid came in for Nir then I’m sure like many players before him he would be off.

What Celtic are saying is the quotes were fabricated, the midfielder is enjoying his football and right now there are no bids for the Israeli and he will remain a Celtic player.

    ——————————————————————————————-

I made a wee comment yesterday about this – what the agent has (allegedly) said and what Celtic have said are no necessarily contradictory. I suspect that the agent has let slip his strategy for Nir – possibly thinking that an interview with Israeli radio wouldn’t make the Scottish papers. Celtic are saying that there has been no contact re: a possible move. Fair enough – doesn;t preclude that happening in the Summer though. Anyways – it’s the strategy so my only surprise is that they felt the need to comment TBH.

  8. New League cup format

Sounds like a lot of dross to me

4 games against mediocre teams guaranteed by seeding.

Glad Celtic aren’t involved at that stage

Might mean that Waghorn/Waghurstgets into double figures before Julys

out and hence on radar of Premiership.

  12. Canamalar – simple solution to end your persecution by that nasty Paul67! Stop reading and posting. It’s easy. I would imagine his inbox is bursting with people “grassin you up”. Your behaviour is tedious and also downright nasty at times.

For all your self righteous ramblings, what are you doing to right the worlds injustices? Sitting on football forum telling everyone they are stupid. Tony Donnelly and Herbo should also consider this advice. Maybe then CQN will become readable again. I have developed RSI from the scrolling and swiping!

MEET first-team stars Carlton Cole and Scott Allan at the Argyle Street Celtic store later today, Tuesday, December 8.

Come to the store between 5pm and 6pm for a chance to meet two of our newest stars. Carlton and Scott will be meeting and greeting fans as well as signing any purchases made on the day.

The Argyle Street store is ideally located for anyone shopping or working in the city centre and offers a great opportunity to stock up on some extra special Celtic gifts for Christmas which the Bhoys will gladly sign for you.

You can take advantage of our latest special 2 Polo Shirts for £30 offer and make a great saving ahead of the festive season.

The new Scott Brown book – My Celtic Story will also be available to buy in-store.

In the book the Celtic captain tells the story of his time at the club, from the day he signed – ‘the best decision I ever made’ – right through to the double-winning season under Ronny Deila, as well as his hopes and ambitions for the future when he does eventually hang up his boots.

It’s a frank, honest and emotional story from a player who is proud to pull on the green and white Hoops and the book is available now priced at £20.

We’ve also got a great range of stocking fillers available including Celtic Onesies, the Official Celtic Annual and 2016 Calendars on sale now.

Meeting Carlton Cole and Scott Allan is a free, first come, first served event so arrive early to avoid disappointment.

A number of players will be appearing in our stores in the build-up to Christmas and more details will be announced soon.

When you buy direct from Celtic, you’re supporting the club even more as all profits are then re-invested in the club furthering our chances of success.

    inspector,

I suggest you stick to your navel gazing, it appears you have nothing to offer but drivel and pish.

As for what I’m doing, should I report my movements and actions to you, lets put it this way, on the Scottish football scene I am working with the club after creating Resolution 12, what have you done ? Come on, one single solitary action that is not negative ?

Offering people an alternative view to the propaganda issued by the western meeja, is, contrary to your opinion helpful, as has previously been identified by bloggers thanking me for posting an alternative to what they are currently being fed by the MSM.

You on the other hand appear to fear dissent and discussion about western propaganda and use the drivel you posted to try and ridicule thus deter anyone from talking about it.

I’ll decide what I will do, I don’t need advice from a no mark like you, now, sling yer hook, I suspect there’s a village missing a local celebrity.

I had a quick look there to try and find you a contact number. Not as easy as it used to be.

I caught 30 minutes of Shortbread last night while her indoors was in Asda.

The main topic about where and how did Scottish football get it wrong over the last three decades.

Speirs, the odious Keith Jackson and King lamb muncher Richard Wilson doing the analysis.

Every excuse trotted out, lack of facilities, bad weather, Walker’s plan a waste of money, Roxburgh’s grand plan ignored, complacency etc etc.

Not one mention of Murray’s wrecklessness and the ensuing effects on the national game, and the carnage on one club, now deceased.

How these guys can take a wage for that and look themselves in the mirror.

The stuff we’ve sadly come to expect.
