Feeding the thousands, from Celtic to Southampton

507

News that Southampton FC have nominated Mary’s Meals as their official international charity partner is a genuine great football story, and a significant landmark for the Scottish-based charity which now feeds over a millions children per day.

Mary’s Meals were in touch on Friday with news and photographs from the fourth school kitchen paid for by Celtic Quick News readers, in Chibwata, Malawi. Since the kitchen was built, school enrolment has increased by 34% to 1226 pupils. Each day over 4,000 pupils are fed in school kitchens built by CQN readers.

The school role has increased because of the availability of a daily meal, but as well as being better fed and healthier, hundreds of pupils are now getting an education who previously missed out.  Benefits are not limited to food today, there are lifetime benefits of getting a primary education, which will help the pupils and the nation as a whole for decades.

Those of you who have put the occasional £1 into Appeal alongside the Magners’ competitions we run, or who have put significantly more than this on occasion, should be enormously proud of what you’ve achieved.  It is a stunning testament to the Celtic support.  Thanks for all your help.

Celtic have done enormous work with Mary’s Meals in the past through the Foundation but let’s hope this break into English football opens up many more opportunities for the charity.

Brilliant.I loved the guy that commented on JJs answer to Chugg.Said,if this had been a comic book, that last answer would have been accompanied with a “Therrrwwaack”.

  2. Weeminger,

Do you think JohnJames would have been allowed to put his stuff up without threats of violence, say three or four years ago ?

  3. Canamalar on 7th December 2015 2:51 pm

He’s had some, although I agree he’d have had a lot more in the past. I think some of that is probably due to others ending up convicted.

I infrequently dip into RM and there definitely are more prepared to cast a critical eye across what’s going on. There’s only one or two where responses are kept civil though.

There’s still far more freedom to criticise the board on here than I’ve seen on RM.

  4. John James is wrong quite often, he sure is good reading.

For all there are divisions within the Celtic support, it’s no near as bad as the hun support.

Aye we have a pop at the suits, the team, the coaches, it’s healthy, the hun got to where they are today for their head in the sand attitude, thankfully it’s no trait of our support in the main.

And the ones who really need to be thanked are the smsm, without their head in the sand fawning reporting, they may well have been saved.

I thank them from the bottom of my heart.

  5. Weeminger,

My point is, the response to dissent is becoming more hardline, you can see it on here, where long time bloggers who always debated respectfully are being rounded on and subjected to serious abuse in contrast to how the debates went pre2013

  6. Canamalar on 7th December 2015 3:08 pm

Agreed. I tend not to notice it so much, not just because I’ve used that sytlish plugin to disappear people but also because I’ve been using forums of various ilks for over 15 years and what goes on here is child’s play.

For me, since I don’t actually know anybody here personally (to the best of my knowledge) then I try not to take insults personally. Some people are too sensitive for this kind of thing, although there should never be the need to result to ad hominem attacks in my view.

This used to be a cracking site… I have made loads of friends over the years I have been here and enjoyed great days at the games with people like ht ,minx , Cowiebhoy, doc leftie …jj ..bt mini bt Mrs bt … tohg. .. crc … sipsinI. . 16 roads … rocco …. bmcuw. .James gang. … Delaneys. … 01 bhoy . Bada .. VP. . Gordon .. … etc etc etc

Now the site has deteriorated with guys like jobo staying away along with many others.

I rarely post and don’t really lurk much these days .

I want our site back and am not prepared to give into the people who abuse and argue all day long …. have they not got workmates .. families … cats and dogs … or a local zombie they can abuse and argue with.

How the flip do we get our site back … do we need Cameron to launch the jets on the Bassas.

If we don’t sort this site out soon cqn book sales and the charities will suffer ;)

Does anyone know if BDO appealed the BTC result which HMRC won? Was the appeal date not the beginning of December?

  11. The statements about Nir Biton seeking a move in the summer and Celtic stating no approach has been made and that he has signed a long-term contract are not contradictory. I would expect the player will be looking for a move at some point. When he goes is, at the end of the day, up to him. When he does go I hope we get as much as we can. I know that this will be reinvested….

I’ve got to accept some of the responsibility for that, I’ve been an antagonistic gobshite for a long time, however in my defence I’ve generally based my responses to the tone of the opposing argument.

While some have definitely flounced, I find that I post a lot less because so many arguments are just repetitions and I don’t really want to spend an hour going over risk averse strategies of the board every night for 3 weeks each transfer window with SyndeyTim.

  23. If it was not for the goings on at Ibrox – so-called fans with their political allies in the Truss, would be in the process of ripping Celtic to threads – these people are so envious of the turmoil at Ibrox and the coverage their counterparts like SoS and Graham get.

  24. Im a ‘so called Celtic fan’ who follows Celtic home and away and abroad. You bams are hilarious :-)

  25. TBJ says Wee Oscar Knox is in heaven with the angels

I ain’t no intellectual, but I think a good way of avoiding having a hatchet that requires burial is for everyone to countenance that they may be wrong. I feel that on internet blogs/forums far too many people don’t contemplate that possibility. The result being folk locking horns time and again for very long periods of time.

I may be wrong about that though….
