Fife, soft tissue and protecting investors

816

A stream of criticism appeared in yesterday’s comments section to greet media coverage of yesterday’s Scottish Cup draw away to Inverness Caledonian Thistle or Dunfermline on 4 February.  Such is our lot (long) after shock cup defeats; remember, these guys literally have to write something.  No one mentioned 1961 so put your money on a trip to Fife next month.

A few moments ago Celtic confirmed Beram Kayal went through his operation yesterday and is now targeting a return to action for preseason.  Irrespective of the circumstances of the incident in which he was injured, Beram’s is another in a long list of soft tissue injuries Celtic players have suffered in recent seasons, a fact which should engage minds at the club.

Rangers issued a really curious statement following the suspension of trading in their shares by the Plus Stock Exchange.  Many Rangers fans have invested thousands of pounds in club shares and bonds, so one would have expected to read the obligatory suggestion from the company that investors take professional advice when addressing the withdrawal of the share disposal service.  Still, at least they didn’t suggest “Rangers Football Club PLC could survive any administration event but feels it would not be the end of the world if it didn’t”.  That kind of comment from those charged to look after their interests really would alarm shareholders.

Hope you don`t mind my purloining this wee snippet from your post.

Celtic took the unprecedented step of demanding cash up front before handing over tickets for away fans for the Old Firm match at Parkhead.

Independent financial analyst David Low, who helped engineer Fergus McCann’s takeover of Celtic in 1994, believes that Rangers will now be forced to pay in full for everything they need for the next few months.

Just maybe our Board are not the total incompetents some of our supporters think they are.

That position arose immediately Lord Hodge granted the first arrestment . Nothing to do with the actions of the Celtic board.

Are you suggesting that the Celtic Board were forced to take “the unprecedented step of demanding cash up front ” and that they had no freedom of choice in the matter, because ” that position arose immediately Lord Hodge granted the first arrestment.”

    Good Morning,

From a clear new day in central Scotland.

You know, I am really a pretty stupid man! Well maybe stupid is not exactly the right word– dumb might be appropriate — or blind– or daft or whatever.

Last night, I made one of my usual nonsensical posts and started it with a question– what would your dream job be?

Later, I got the chance to read back and as sometimes happens CQN ( or really my fellow Celtic fans on CQN )give you a right good and well deserved kick up the backside. In short, I was reminded that I already have the “Dream” job– and so do many of you!

    The Job Title?

Being dad! or mum! It doesn’t matter either way!

The news from Knoxy about Oscar’s progress just blows all the other mince about things down Govan way and all that stuff out of the water.

This morning, I have woken up to a text that has asked me to do something for someone I have never met, but the text was specifically sent to me because the sender knows that I post reasonably regularly on this site.

It was also sent in the full knowledge of the reach of this site and the nature of those who read the posts.

Below, I attach a link to a just giving site. It is for a site related to a wee girl called Vanessa.

    http://www.justgiving.com/vanessa-appeal

Vanessa, has undergone a long course of Chemotherapy and other treatment in relation to a rare cancerous condition. It had been thought that this was successful.

Alas you will see from the site that December brought a relapse and now all hope rests with pioneering treatment that can only be concluded in the USA. Whilst there may be some help with this, in the main the necessary money will have to be privately raised. In part the sums raised will be used for Vanessa’a treatment, but part will also be used to hopefully further the research which will help make this condition a thing of the past and alleviate the suffering of other children and their families.

So this is an appeal for your money. I realise that money is not easily come by, but even as little as a pound can make all the difference. This site apparently gets something like 640,000 unique hits. £1 from each would more than achieve the target.

In the space of a few hours last night over £10,000 was raised. But time as much as money is of the essence here so if anyone can do anything at all it will be greatly appreciated.

As I say, I have been asked to write this precisely because someone knows I post on CQN, and it is recognised that it is precisely this type of thing that the Celtic family are good at and have at their core.

I appreciate that there are many other causes to fund and be considered and I respect that totally.

However if you can give something it may mean the difference between a wee girl living and not.

Christy Moore sings a line that is stuck in my head:

” When you look into a Child’s face, you are seeing all the human race

Of all the possibilities there, of what a child can do………”

If you can give that would be great, if not thankyou for taking the time and trouble to read this.

Remember too to give blood for Oscar and, that for the rest of us, each and every day presents just another opportunity.

I will send this out by twitter as well and if you have a twitter account then please retweet.

Many many thanks for your time and all the best in Celtic.

  15. Andy Flintoff on BBC Breakfast was talking about depression. My attention was only caught when he mentioned Neil Lennon.

Flintoff says (roughly) Lenny treats it the same way as an injury, and looks out for it in his players so they can get treatment.

Got to be a good thing.

Thank you for your reply , although i accept your points i still feel the S.F.A S.P.L. will favour them against us in the majority of cases , i wonder what would have been the case had it been kayal. mulgrew. broonie. who had been sent off ,and a game against rangers up next and an appeal had been lodged , i suspect a quick phone round the brothers would have been the order of the day . You and i have been down this route before my friend , after 50 odd years following the celts and having witnessed some of the blatent cheating in that time , i cannot see it changing and a level playing field being afforded to us . . May i just before i finish ,ask you , If by chance they are found guilty and get hammered, what are the chances that our club on behalf of the thousands of minor shareholders, tens of thousands of season ticket paying fans will look into their champoinships won , the participation of them in the champions league when it was alledged that they gained advantage by dishonest means in favour over all other teams in the league . Although a share holder ,and like thousands of others the dividend is of no consequence to me , but my team playing on the big stage is important to me , and if that has been hampered through allegedly dishonest means then it should be investigated and acted upon. Say that rory mcilroy now comes clean and says that behind the bunker out of sight off the cameras and the crowd he gave himself a better lie than he originally had , that in essence he cheated would he be allowed to keep his US open title . What do you think .

Is there an equally convenient way of scrolling up?

  19. Good morning fellow Celts, clear blue skies above North Hampshire

If man u are really after Ki, I feel we are in a strong position. He is the quality player in our midfield and has vast experience for his age, with over 40 international caps playing at the highest levels in Asian soccer. He is a genuine superstar in his own country.

Unfortunately, he is not fully appreciated by some Celts. Part of the reason is down to the way we, sometimes, have to set up the team to compete in sphell. The cluggers and lack of protection provided by Mibs is also a significant part of the problem.

We have only seen glimpses of what this boy can achieve ..and mainly in Europa.

Word on the street is Lenny does not have to sell this window. However, if he wants to improve his strike force, he needs to bring in money.

So, if and when Ki gets a move to man u – we will see a real player in his element. I hope PL is screwing his counterpart in Manchester to the floorboards to squeeze every last penny…

That money will serve two purposes: Provide a striker who can ‘hold’ and heid the ba’- at least some of the money should go to that…the significant portion will be used to balance the budget shortfall/deficit as per Aiden money. We know we need at least one biggie sale each season.

    Good business in one sense.

In another way, we are left to reflect on the fact that yet another class footballer has been unable to display his full potential to Celtic fans, due to the horrible wee league we must play in.

    Leaves a sour taste
