Fife, soft tissue and protecting investors

816

A stream of criticism appeared in yesterday’s comments section to greet media coverage of yesterday’s Scottish Cup draw away to Inverness Caledonian Thistle or Dunfermline on 4 February.  Such is our lot (long) after shock cup defeats; remember, these guys literally have to write something.  No one mentioned 1961 so put your money on a trip to Fife next month.

A few moments ago Celtic confirmed Beram Kayal went through his operation yesterday and is now targeting a return to action for preseason.  Irrespective of the circumstances of the incident in which he was injured, Beram’s is another in a long list of soft tissue injuries Celtic players have suffered in recent seasons, a fact which should engage minds at the club.

Rangers issued a really curious statement following the suspension of trading in their shares by the Plus Stock Exchange.  Many Rangers fans have invested thousands of pounds in club shares and bonds, so one would have expected to read the obligatory suggestion from the company that investors take professional advice when addressing the withdrawal of the share disposal service.  Still, at least they didn’t suggest “Rangers Football Club PLC could survive any administration event but feels it would not be the end of the world if it didn’t”.  That kind of comment from those charged to look after their interests really would alarm shareholders.

That report re audited accounts is not quite as precise as it could be. The motive for the obsfuscation is anyone’s guess but my reading of the UEFA Article 48 is that the current set of accounts up to 30 June is simply not up to date enough for licensing purposes audited or not. AQccording to Art 48 Rangers need to submit audired INTERIM accounts that, if I read it right could cover 1 July to 31 May.

On the actual date the deadline for providing the necesary application and supporting documents is in facy 8th April but the 31st Date will apply to the accounts. The devil is in the detail. So they need audited accounts and audited Interim Accounts and need to hope no going concern qualification appears. They might as well no bother applyingt and save the SFA the trouble.

Article 48 – Financial statements for the interim period

1 If the statutory closing date of the licence applicant is more than six months

before the deadline for submission of the list of licensing decisions to UEFA,

then additional financial statements covering the interim period must be

    prepared and submitted.

2 The interim period starts the day immediately after the statutory closing date and

ends on a date within the six months preceding the deadline for submission of

the list of licensing decisions to UEFA.

3 Interim financial statements must be reviewed or audited by an independent

auditor as defined in Annex V.

I think it will give the RTC crowd some fun chewing it over as it suggests the Interim Account auditor does not have to be GT, but with UEFA watching and the world watching it will have to be played by the book.

  13. Hi bhoys . Sorry if i cant get too excited about the big tax case , because this mob are teflon coated . I would never believe the demise of this club till i witness them welded into their coffin . buried halfway into the earths crust then a motorway built over them . They will always be around aided and abetted by the usual suspects . It has been a source of enjoyment for my fellow celts on here for a while now , i just wish we wouldn,t count our chickens .Apart from ourselves the whole country is behind the whyte knight ,every avenue will have been probed and an escape route will be found ,make no mistake about that . I have read about the end of the honest mistakes , as i posted on here in reply , dont believe it , and so it has come to pass . Mcculloch what was his punishment , missing a game against arbroath, missing a game against stjohnstone , that appeal cost us the services of kayal for the rest of the season . so who was punished . An act of thuggery visited on young forrest ,a straight red in any other country in the world . was it a red i saw . no it wasnt . And talking of mcculloch he has been made a personality on here. along with lasley, black ,and a good few others ,and surprisingly enough not a six footer among them ,imagine lasley the 5ft 8 hatchet man , ian black the 5ft 10 hatchet man . mcculloch the 5ft 10 thug . jeeso , I am willing to bet that my fellow veterans on here will vouch ,that years ago we had the men that black, lasley . and him would not have wanted TO PLAY against. Read back a blog or two .all thats talked about is being kicked off the park by the hammer throwers. We have in forrest , ledley .mathews. izzy ,ki. players of quality .who if supported will do the business for us , but these guys need a bit of protection .We aint going to get it from the mibs , so i am asking pl, or whoever buys a player to get in a minder for these players who are equiped with the skill but not the brawn , every great team has a minder , if we are to become great again we need one too .

    hail hail.

According to the Wikipedia entry for ‘The Fields of Athenry’ ….

The song is sung in the movie Veronica Guerin, by Brian O’Donnell, then aged 11, a street singer in Dublin.[14] It is also sung a cappella by a female character at a wake in the 1994 film Priest. It also appears in Dead Poets Society, an anachronism, as the film is set in 1959, before the song was written,[15] and 16 Years of Alcohol. An a cappella version of the first verse and chorus can be found during a singing contest judged by Janeane Garofalo in the film ‘ ‘The Matchmaker.

Had the case been confined to Scotland then chances are the result might go their way but it is a UK national matter with very wide implications for the national exchequer that should far outweigh any attempt to pockle a decision in Rangers favour. If they get off with it an explanation will need to be given or every frootball club in the UK will be using EBTs.

Sometimes life throws us a curve ball that we are powerless to avoid.

On the McCulloch decision, no rules were broken, The SFA should have had the same fast track process in place for the holiday week ,but its absence is hardly an indicator they foresaw Rangers taking advantage and left the week uncovered deliberately.

The lesson learned is leave Rangers no loopholes, they will always exploit them but what happened is not an indication nothing has changed. In the run up to Naismith’s elbow and Aluko’s dive the view was they would get off and under the old system Rangers would have exploited it if at all possible. It is what they do.

I accept they will not change their thinking but given how they behave the rules need to be much tighter and so far, in the case of Naismith and Aluko, they have done their job.

Hope so mate, For that fees anyway.

In my opinion Hooper is worth alot more. PL might be different though. I Hope he signs a new long term contract asap. Hooper i mean not PL :-)

No disrespect to Stokes who has done great for us but Hooper & Rhodes would be lethal together.

Matthews has been fantastic & we would get decent money for him, I dont want him to leave either but with Lustig in maybe he will be sold.

As much as i hate any club trying to get our players it shows how well they have all been playing. Every player deserve so much credit for they way they have performed since rugby park. Even fringe players like Loovens who have stepped in have done their bit when it mattered recently.

Celtic: A Biography in Nine Lives, takes its structure from nine key individuals associated with the club since its inception, and touches on aspects of that person’s life to explore key themes in the club’s history. From John Glass, their tenacious first President and Willie Maley, who played in Celtic’s first match against Rangers in 1888, to the legendary Jock Stein, who led the club to European glory in 1967 and Martin O’Neill, the most popular and successful manager since Stein, Kevin McCarra explores the history and recounts the flavour of this unique football instituton.

should we hold on till the trophy is in the cabinet ?

or strike big bucks while the iron is hot ?

i know which one we would prefer

but long term (PL’s bonus excluded) what’s best ?

at this mo, i’d say we could sell for 10mill each if possible…but would NOT want to do so of course !

my take is always (and had have said to Pete) sign several good prospects and make money that way !!

can never have a squad too big if making god money out of turning players into profit

but of course the no1 longterm objective MUST be to nail a few (or many !) trophies as we go along, fairly of course, paying tax etc

    :)

  22. Serge

has our squad increased in overall value over the past 2 years, would you say ?

if so, how and where ? (who?)

in other words, if we repeat the same in the forthcoming 2yrs, should we not continue with the current policy IF we have increased in value….

…in order longterm to be the big daddies !

  23. TopCorner

I personally would like to see us keep this team together for aslong as possible & get income through progress in the champions league. With our team being very young their best years are ahead of them and most of them have 3 to 4 years to run on their contracts. We should always try to improve on it though & if we don’t sell any of our 1st 11 i think we only need to bring in another 2, possibly 3 if the deals are right. There is so many squad players we need to get rid of but as we all know that’s easier said than done. For me a new CB & striker is a must. We need to win the league this season, 4 in a row for that lot is unacceptable at any point of history id say. HH

  24. TopCorner

Sorry didn’t answer your question, Squad value has definitely increased. From having maybe 1 asset in McGeady 2 seasons ago we now have a possible 6 or 7.

From a financial point of view that’s great but also a worry. PL will be licking his lips!

  25. As anyone who takes (or matbe they see it as wastes) their time reading my posts you will notice i am an infrequent poster. Therefore,as this is my first contribution to the blog since we ushered in a new (and hopefully victor(wanyama)ious new year i would like to wish health and happines to all CQNers and their friends and families.

My irregular contributions are down to my struggle with depression and the subsequent symptoms which lead to a withdrawal from almost all human contact, including,to my ceaseless shame, with my children.Anyway i only mention this to explain my absences from posting.

My main reason for posting now is to say that i firmly believe we are on the cusp of an historic season. If our team keep up their winning run until the end of January i can see the lead we have being extended.Fantasy zillionaire Vague Shyte’s ensemble of glorified junior players will drop more points by then.

The chance is their for Lenny and his bhoys to leave them trailing.

The future looks promising, let’s just hope it’s not a broken promise.I firmly believe it won’t be.

So once again, belated yet sincere best wishes to every bhoy and ghirl wherever you may be.

And to the Sally the sneak and all the hun hordes,

“Kiss me where the sun don’t shine,

Goodest of nights to all in Celtic.

And i’ll depart with my more normal type of post,a top, proper tune.Enjoy.

    FOREVERANDEVER!!!

  26. Serge

    yes

    i agree

problem is also that players emotions and attitudes change over time

    take KC for instance

    and maybe his buddy GH

not sayin they are defo going

but just an example of what may happen if not cashing in at the right moment

    difficult balancing act

    yes CL money

a dream we would all love

and ultimately that is indeed the goal, to get there and to gain cash from it, a few glory nights, a better team etc etc

again next season we are in at the 3rd qualifying round, i see, both 1st and 2nd place in SPL go in at that stage

preferred option is keep the current crop together

add a quality striker and maybe a CB in order to win the 2011/12 SPL

    (not so risky)

next up would be to sell 1 or 2 for big bucks, get a couple in and yet still win it

    (risky)

and last would be to sell and get no-one in

    (very risky)

but selling big and not winning it….

is this truly a major problem ?

i wont like it at all but is it the end of the world ?…

if we go on to win the next barrow-load ?

of course, i completely prefer the least risky option above

btw, you still at Madagascar ?
