Final deck clearing for deadline day

1075

The day has arrived, 31 August, on a Champions League season, but news has been slow (in general) or there has been no news (at Celtic) so far.  Pity help those who were not busy this morning and have burned through a packed of antacids.  Deadline day reveals human nature in all its glory.

Last night Ipswich Town agreed a deal to take Daryl Murphy, whom they had on loan last season and the final six months of the previous season.  Daryl would have been keen to bring his Celtic uncertainty to an end (he is out of contract when this loan period at Ipswich expires) as he has clearly enjoyed more success in the English Championship.

We didn’t see the best of Daryl but it’s good news Celtic were prepared to release him.  He would surely have been retained if there was not a good chance of recruiting a replacement.  No promises, of course!

Stay tuned throughout the day.  If we have another ‘Robbie Keane Day’ when the CQN server takes a battering I’ll update the Facebook page and Twitter.

In terms of his preferred position, he continued: “I am the kind of player who plays where it is of benefit to the team. If the manager trusts me to play in midfield or defence, then I trust him and I am the kind of player who will give 100 per cent, whatever the coach asks of me.”

While looking forward to life in the Scottish Premier League and helping in the defence of the title, Efe is also ready to test himself against Europe’s elite in the UEFA Champions League.

“I have come here to find we are in the same group as Barcelona, Benfica and Spartak Moscow,” he said with a broad smile. “It’s a lovely group, you might call it the group of death and it will be hard, but hard work always pays.

He is so comfortable on either foot and has that eye for goal.

Very excited about this hidden gem, I hope we get it over the line, even if it is just a loan signing.

He might be a Juarez, Tevez or Gutierrez or any manner of in between complex individuals but the bottom line is he is a fantastic finisher from the clip I posted earlier.

I’d sign Templeton just to hurt the Sevcovians where it hurts and then loan him to Peterhead.

    hee hee!

  6. EFE from the Club Website.

Speaking exclusively to the official website just minutes after signing, the Nigerian internationalist commented: “It has been a long day, but it has been worth it. Today is one of the happiest days of my life, signing for one of the biggest clubs in the world – a club I have known about since I was young.

That Mustard Seed, it is only just starting to develop.

We have an incredible future to look forward to.

  7. Templeton? Nothing special. Think Andy Driver is the better player.

Nonetheless, how badly advised are these guys signing for Sevco? Fourth Division standards of football will see their value and prospects plummet.

Feck it, I’m away to ask around elsewhere for a link to the game. I thought a Celtic forum would be a good place to start.

Welcome to Big Effie. Is he cleared to crunch a few hibbee’s ramorra? I read somewhere earlier that to play tomorrow signings had to be complete before 17.00. Dont know if that was pap or genuine.

    More power to Peters pen.

True but if it doesn’t cost much it would be yet another hammer blow to their fans. When they are down kick them.

Remember what they did to us in the 90s and lets face it it wouldn’t cost too much.

AS a GIRUY I would but nothing else.

  11. Listening to Sportsound earlier and Jim Spence says he spoke to people at DU and he doesn’t think Russell is going anywhere. Apparently Huddersfield offerred £1.25m for Russell and Mackay-Steven and were told that it was an insult (which it was).

certainly a better signing than chris humphreys

  14. Hail hail and welcome to the best club in the world Efe, make your self a legend in the hoops.

  15. If Templeton joins the other ,too good for Div.3 players, at Ibrox, then serious answers must be sought as to what guarantees have been given re their fast tracking up through the levels.

I suspect that we may be in for another Spring of Fans’ Revolt, at least I hope so, when the Newclub favouring restructuring is pushed through.

That will be the final judgement day for many supporters and it is when Celtic will have to show their hand.

  16. Welcome big Efe, you are joining the best club in the planet. 1 or 2 more please :)

    Hail Hail

  17. I like sticking to the Sevco misfits as much as anyone but you have to question that lads ambition.Templetons, was that not an old supermarket?

Forget about them, they are totally irrelevant, their media lackies are trying to make them relevant but they couldn’t compete without cheating everyone in Scotland.

We are now going to put the foot to the floor and leave them in the lands of ignominy where they deserve to be.

  19. And they wonder why we don’t take the media seriously? This from Ulster TV.

Lennon’s Celtic miss out on Del Piero

Lurgan-born Neil Lennon has missed out on the chance to sign former Juventus star Alessandro Del Piero, though he had already expected that might be the case. Lennon had admitted earlier this week that contact had been made with the 37-year-old’s advisors.

“But I don’t think there is any more mileage in that.

How can we miss out on a player the manager has said he’s not going to get?

    and yet – we’ve nae dough ?

    Why ?”

Apparently these so-called professional footballers expect to be paid for their work.

On top of which there’s a queue of ne-er do well councils and utility companies and other fly-by-night hustlers expecting Celtic to fork out its hard earned cash on fripperies such as sewage, security, electricity and the likes.

    Rip-off Britain so it is.

  22. fergus slayed the blues on

I know Lenny gets the credit for they young team he is putting on the field at the moment but I think we have to applaud the board for their change of course after MON and even as far back as wee fergus .

I believe Fergus spent more money putting a team on the park during his time as Minty (although the MSM made out the wee man had a biscuit tin mentality ) .Minty spent more money GROSS but recouped a lot more on re-sale ,were as Celtic spent less money GROSS but got next to nothing in re-sale .

I think after MON the board realised that they had to find another way and that began when WGS took over GS won us 3 titles during this transition and he can hold his head high regards his time as manager ,his only disappointment must be that his team dropped 22pts in the 2nd part of his last season in charge .

I do not know when exactly we brought in John Park but I think this guy deserves a mention regarding the young team Celtic now field .

When Lenny got the job I said if it did not work out for Lenny I would not blame Lenny as the chance to manage CELTIC may only ever come once in your lifetime and if it’s offered to you ,you should never turn it down .I think the job was offered to the great Tommy Burns in a similar situation and he grabbed it .Tommy may only have won a cup but I will always remember watching his team and regard it as among the best times of watching the bhoys

IMO J Park was brought in to source the talent on a budget and with the emphasis on re-sale value but Lenny was charged with making them a team and I must say Lenny has done a great job .

I will admit I would rather take a chance on Tony Watt than pay for J Rhodes and it is not about money ,I like the look of Tony and he has deserved his chance .

IMO Celtic are going about their business quietly and in the correct way ,if the MSM are not interested then it’s their loss ,not ours

I’m now not going because “it’s the thing to do as a Celtic supporter” but because I want to be there.
