Final deck clearing for deadline day

1075

The day has arrived, 31 August, on a Champions League season, but news has been slow (in general) or there has been no news (at Celtic) so far.  Pity help those who were not busy this morning and have burned through a packed of antacids.  Deadline day reveals human nature in all its glory.

Last night Ipswich Town agreed a deal to take Daryl Murphy, whom they had on loan last season and the final six months of the previous season.  Daryl would have been keen to bring his Celtic uncertainty to an end (he is out of contract when this loan period at Ipswich expires) as he has clearly enjoyed more success in the English Championship.

We didn’t see the best of Daryl but it’s good news Celtic were prepared to release him.  He would surely have been retained if there was not a good chance of recruiting a replacement.  No promises, of course!

Stay tuned throughout the day.  If we have another ‘Robbie Keane Day’ when the CQN server takes a battering I’ll update the Facebook page and Twitter.

    Thanks for the info.

All the very best of luck to big Josh, he was put in a difficult position early in his career at Celtic.

I hope he has a very successful career ahead and he looks back and realises the Celtic experience was the best thing that happened to him. ;)

  6. Efe Ambrose becomes one of the Bhoys

By: Gregor Kyle on 31 Aug, 2012 19:09

IT’S been a frantic day, one that began in the early hours of the morning in Israel and ended with the signing of a three-year contract in Glasgow.

But ‘hard work brings rewards’ and as Efe Ambrose looked forward to starting life at ‘one of the biggest clubs in the world’ he explained that he can’t wait to get started.

Speaking exclusively to the official website just minutes after signing, the Nigerian internationalist commented: “It has been a long day, but it has been worth it. Today is one of the happiest days of my life, signing for one of the biggest clubs in the world – a club I have known about since I was young.

“I just can’t wait to get started,” continued the 24-year-old, “to play in front of the fans and call this place home.

“I would like to thank God for everything and to thank the manager and directors here at Celtic – who have placed their trust and confidence in me.”

Efe jetted into Glasgow this morning for talks with the Bhoys and successfully passed a medical at Ross Hall with flying colours before putting pen-to-paper on a three-year deal.

A Nigerian internationalist and Olympic Silver Medal winner, he has spent the last three years playing for FC Ashdod in the Israeli top flight, operating as a centre-back – but also playing in the centre of midfield.

“The move to Israel really opened the door for me and gave me my opportunity. I had been to other clubs, but they were the ones who gave me my chance.

“For that I would like to thank the coaches and directors at FC Ashdod, my agent Dudu Dahan and also my colleagues and the fans – who all helped develop me as a player.”

In terms of his preferred position, he continued: “I am the kind of player who plays where it is of benefit to the team. If the manager trusts me to play in midfield or defence, then I trust him and I am the kind of player who will give 100 per cent, whatever the coach asks of me.”

While looking forward to life in the Scottish Premier League and helping in the defence of the title, Efe is also ready to test himself against Europe’s elite in the UEFA Champions League.

“I have come here to find we are in the same group as Barcelona, Benfica and Spartak Moscow,” he said with a broad smile. “It’s a lovely group, you might call it the group of death and it will be hard, but hard work always pays.

“I am just looking forward to meeting my team-mates now, there is no better place for me than Scotland.”

We will catch Efe for a full and exclusive interview on Celtic TV over the coming days. Keep an eye on celticfc.net and also celticfc.tv for further information.

I can mention them in the same sentence if I want, like you I really dont give a funkeys muck if you agree, or try and twist my words to make out I made a direct comparison. Regardless of your interpretation WGS was a more successful manager than MON and second only to MrStein at winning titles and european competition, innit.

  13. I don’t know anything about most of the targets mentioned on here, save the Dundee United lads.

Then again, I didn’t know anything about Ki, Kayal, Izzy, Lustig and big Vic before they were signed.

Quite happy to let the management get on with it.

Ill still keep checking in until 11.00 tonight though.
