Final deck clearing for deadline day

1075

The day has arrived, 31 August, on a Champions League season, but news has been slow (in general) or there has been no news (at Celtic) so far.  Pity help those who were not busy this morning and have burned through a packed of antacids.  Deadline day reveals human nature in all its glory.

Last night Ipswich Town agreed a deal to take Daryl Murphy, whom they had on loan last season and the final six months of the previous season.  Daryl would have been keen to bring his Celtic uncertainty to an end (he is out of contract when this loan period at Ipswich expires) as he has clearly enjoyed more success in the English Championship.

We didn’t see the best of Daryl but it’s good news Celtic were prepared to release him.  He would surely have been retained if there was not a good chance of recruiting a replacement.  No promises, of course!

Stay tuned throughout the day.  If we have another ‘Robbie Keane Day’ when the CQN server takes a battering I’ll update the Facebook page and Twitter.

  1. Great to see Celtic active (and prudent) in the transfer market today, also nice to sign a big, experienced CH.

I don’t think i’ve seen NL happier since he became the manager, what an introduction to football management he has had! Absolutley brilliant Neil and bask in the glory! You’re doing a magic job!

I sense that Neil understands the criticality of teamwork and mutual respect. The team are playing for each other and with a couple of strategic additions we could really set the group alight.

  2. So Efe is a done deal, good lets all hope he is a new success Lord Willing.

Welcome to the Celtic Family young man big expectations are now

on ones shoulders I hope you don’t disappoint and good luck @ in

your new surroundings and new home God bless you young man

  3. One down, we need at least another 3. The manager after the game on Wednesday talked of his paper thin squad, it sounded like a plea to the board for some help. He, and the players, kept their side of the bargain and got us CL football, if we only sign 2 players then that’s a massive slap in the face for the manager.

Canamalar did not compare Mr. Strachan with Mr. Stein, he stated the fact that Mr. Strachan is the most successful Celtic manager since Mr. Stein.

Few managers in the history of football would compare well with Jock Stein.

  5. I suppose the FFers are on a knife edge waiting to hear who they’ve signed.

Hope it’s an Fen sharp knife.

“Have you ever stopped to wonder why – the LL hated Gerry McNee ?”

I know why Big Billy, from the LL, hated him and never tired of punching his face.

    Houl your wheesht

I think WGS made an obvious misjudgement in picking Shaun over Aiden as it turned out that Shaun had a fairly average game.

That being said, I don’t find much merit in the argument that we’d have obviously done better with Aiden. When did Aiden ever turn in a reasonable performance against Rangers at Ibrox?

WGS’s point remains valid and it is the same point made repeatedly by Jock Stein. A manager that feels the need to explain every selection judgement to the fans is a manager that is betraying a lack of confidence in his own judgement. There is a thin line between a manager being decisive and the fans perceiving that as arrogance.

WGS does not need to justify his picks to me. He just needs to win matches and leagues. He did that to great effexct

  7. Have you ever stopped to wonder why – the LL hated Gerry McNee ?

    No, thought not.

do not care whyt the LL hate gerry McNee

he gave it tight to celtic and big billy put him right

    that will do for me

as regards you giving it to WGS

WGS in my eyes will always be a celtic hero

he kept tommy burns when he became manager

and has never had a bad word to say about celtic since he left

unlike walker, burley, provan, murdo and a few others who i consider LL pupets

your views are more in line with the crew above than any supporter i know

maybe 1 day you will stop reading the LL propaganda and see how good WGS done

Just in case we missed it.

I missed your up to the minute re-assessment of Donegal’s,so far, all conquering total football style.

I trust that you have joined Spillane, O’Rourke ,Brolly, et al in seeing the future of GAA football.

If the Bank of Scotland had not allowed Rangers to spend 20 Million quid they couldn’t afford none of us would be having this discussion about WGS.

What a shame the financial crash didn’t come a few weeks earlier and then none of the pain of that year would have happened.

Mate, earlier I mentioned that you were as mad as a box of frogs.

I forgot to clarify that those frogs had been injected with a liquidised form of crack cocaine and exposed to nuclear waste :-)

  14. THE EXILED TIM

I agree we need to get another striker up top, Miku looks like a belter, a real Top drawer player that will hopefully sign.

I disagree about Hooper, I thought he looked as lively as he always does in the Big games at Celtic Park on Wednesday. The guy needs to be put under serious pressure so we see that performance 4 out of 5 games rather than 2 out of 5.

  16. ogunjimi sounds a good player and also has a good record in goals, we still need 2 maybee 3 more good signings for the champs lge campaign

  17. Welcome Efe! No idea if he’s any good, but good to see we are strengthening at the back.

Canamalar doesn’t need a minder, just making a point.

If you don’t like the point scroll by. If you want to answer the point feel free, I see your not addressing the point. The fact remains Gordon Strachan is the most successful Celtic manager since Jock Stein, do you accept the point?
