The day has arrived, 31 August, on a Champions League season, but news has been slow (in general) or there has been no news (at Celtic) so far. Pity help those who were not busy this morning and have burned through a packed of antacids. Deadline day reveals human nature in all its glory.
Last night Ipswich Town agreed a deal to take Daryl Murphy, whom they had on loan last season and the final six months of the previous season. Daryl would have been keen to bring his Celtic uncertainty to an end (he is out of contract when this loan period at Ipswich expires) as he has clearly enjoyed more success in the English Championship.
We didn’t see the best of Daryl but it’s good news Celtic were prepared to release him. He would surely have been retained if there was not a good chance of recruiting a replacement. No promises, of course!

The recession is still biting and I believe that TBB’s point earlier might have been hinting at some Celtic fans choosing to go back to picking and choosing which games to attend, knowing that they do not need a SB to guarantee a ticket for any game.
Unfortunately that seems to be true. Without the incentive of a Rangers/ Sevco ticket, some fans seem to have said why bother with a SB?

Oh! it can be countenanced and acknowledged. I have never been deaf to the repeated cries at dissatisfaction with the Board. They are not, nor should they ever be, our heroes. I am not greatly impressed by feats of accounting but, on the other hand, I am not too impressed with the view that if PL was paid less or incentivised less, Celtic would be a lot more successful.
So let me repeat once more. I believe that

All CEOs are overpaid as there is a widespread “Lee Iacocca” super-manager myth that over-rewards individuals at the expense of teams of people who contribute to company success.
Peter Lawwell’s bonus is too large and its terms not sufficiently defined
If PL’s wage and bonus were made more reasonable, it would have little impact on Celtic’s success or failure.
It should still be reduced nonetheless.
I think we waste a lot of energy dissecting Board activity and award it an importance it does not merit.
I believe that good players and a good management team win titles and The Board and CEO are only there to ensure we do it within sustainable budget to keep the club for our grandchildren and beyond. So long as they do not steal from the club nor get us into serious debt, I am inclined to ignore them.
