Find how best to use Scott Brown

815

Neil Lennon will be delighted to have secured his captain, Scott Brown, on a new long-term contract which sees the player tied to the club until after his 30th birthday in 2015, with the club having an option to extend the deal by a further 12 months.

Scott joined Celtic in 2007 and played central midfield until last season, when he was occasionally used wide right, to great effect.  Reflecting some of the conversations we had earlier this week with Georgios Samaras, who has recently been a revelation wide-left after years of frustration as part of a front pairing, Scott seemed to revel in the space the wider position allowed him to exploit.

Before joining Celtic Scott made his name playing almost as an auxiliary striker at Hibernian, where he would burst into the box with well-timed runs but at Celtic he is more commonly anchored in a defensive midfield role.  As a consequence, despite having played more games for Celtic than Hibs, and playing for a team who attack far more often, he has still to match his Hibs goals scored total at Celtic.

Rangers got a penalty, so what ?

I remember Celtic got a free kick against St Mirren and Nakamura scored from it. Just before that in a cup-final, Roy Aitken stole a throw-in and Celtic scored the only goal to bea agers an win the Scottish cup.

    It evens out.

Mind that time we got a corner against Motherwell?

Yip, even more recently I remember getting a stonewall penalty but Auld Broon felt Shaun went down “really easy”……….

We should, I know it ain’t in centre mid or in front of the back 4, he isn’t an anchor. For fear of starting a broonie debate, I’m pro brown but can’t quite put my finger on why, he definitely played last year in ways we all hoped he would do from the start and I think we missed him this season.

  8. Just seen the penalty today, on a poor quality link on Twitter.

Now it may well be the quality of the stream, but just wait to you see it!

If it is as bad as it appears, then Conroy must surely be finished.

    Evening everyone.

I think Scott’s best position could be in the middle of the 3 in a 4-2-3-1, where he can forage forward without worrying too much about defensive duties. It would also allow us to still play Forrest AND Samaras left and right of him.

    We may find out tomorrow…

I thought he would be a revelation in a Celtic jersey, unfortunatly not, but in mitigation, he is now playing for us and the related hazzards that go with that, his sisters death, and the realisation that he is our capatano.

I only want to see positives from this, too much negativity about the blog, we will win the league this season.

All the negative energy should be focused at the way we are being cheated, instead of slagging off our players and coaching staff, only my opinion mind.

  12. Just saw the hun’s penalty…..i know i know but OMG as the wean would say; even for them and their usual standards, that was absolute and total diving cheating bassas material. I suspect it will be airbrushed from existence prior to monday night phone-ins…..disgracefull decision by the ref.

ML2 Militia : fully understand how underwhelmed you are about Broonie re-signing. We haven’t even got close to a return on our investment, but I’m glad he’s going to be available between now and the season end. After that is a different story!

We need all the options we can, you only have to look at Ledley (our most consistent player this season) and Wanyama going off injured on Wednesday. My preferred midfield is Kayal/Wanyama/Ledley, but Brown gives us a good right side option and can also cover in the middle if required.

He wouldn’t be my captain and he certainly wouldn’t be guaranteed a start every week, but he’s got a role to play while he’s in this squad.
