Fit & proper waste of time

760

The proposed SFA rule change, that clubs must conduct an investigation into prospective new owners, went through unopposed at the Association’s AGM, currently underway at Hampden.  No formal rules must be observed during this investigation, not even the ‘Gandhi criminal rule’ postulated by (still) SPL chief executive, Neil Doncaster, so a club can look into the matter as deeply as they see appropriate and the former owner can claim he was “duped” after the money appears in his bank account.

This does not strengthen efforts to keep unfit people from owning Scottish clubs, if anything, it provides errant clubs with a defence.  Previously it was explicitly the club’s responsibility to ensure owners were fit and proper, now the club’s responsibility is limited to carrying out an unspecified value judgement.  Tune in soon to hear “We carried out an investigation consistent with best practice, why punish us?”

In this instance, value judgements are worth as much as Ibrox valuations. It’s not the rules that are wrong, the only problem is one club didn’t respect the rules and doesn’t like the medicine.

No mention yet of the dark Fifa cloud hanging over the Association. Perhaps it’s slipped their mind.

  9. Idea time!!! In the spirit of forgiveness let us remember the very ethos of our club a charitable organisation. I suggest we all help Rangers (IA) and buy season tickets for Ibroke. £500.00 quid down the tube I hear you say! Well perhaps but at least we can rename Murray park “The Fergus McCann school for business acumen”

Haven’t read back and it’s probably been mentioned already, but I believe that the memorial for James Stokes VC has been vandalised.

Is there an existing fund for the upkeep of this or would the Celtic Graves people get involved?

The Rangers Fans Fighting Fund issued the following statement

following their meeting with Charles Green today.

A RFFF spokesman:” we had a constructive meeting today. Mr Green is

fully aware of the issues we are concerned with but we made good

    progress in discussions today.

“The main thing is getting the CVA approved. Once that happens fans

will see that as a major milestone.

“There will be other milestones and if they are passed succesfully it

will be beneficial for the Club and the fans.”

some of Ra berrs are not happy with greens or the rfff statements

But the STUPID STUPID DESPERATE ONES ARE CLINGINGON TO ANY NONSENSE THEY SPOUT”””””” Hell scud it intae them

  13. So is it fans who get to rename Murray Park, what to raise funds???

Lincoln city are doing a similar project, and are likely to raise only £10k – scale it up by 10 for the huns and its only £100k!

If he is a recipient of the VC shouldn’t the commonwealth graves commission pay for the upkeep / repair?

The latest decision by the SFA, without any indication on sanctions against clubs who sell to the wrong person(s), is a half cooked meal.

Firstly, the SFA were hung by their own rules recently. Nimmo Smith found Whyte to be “not fit & proper”, yet the cry from RFCIA and their fans was “You (SFA) knew about Whyte last November after Daly’s Documentary, yet you did nothing. You have failed in your duty, Mr SFA.”

The SFA recognise this now, and have simply placed the burden on clubs to do their own due diligence on prospectove buyers. That seems not unreasionable to me. Why should the SFA spend money invesitgating every market trader that wants to buy a football club? When the onus is on them(SFA) to ensure fit & proper, the process becomes admin intensive, expensive and a litigation minefield.

Secondly, the RFCIA retort to the punishment (from Jardine and others), was that the fiasco at their club was not the club’s doing, but solely down to Craig Whyte, and that therefore any punishment on the club was wrong and unfair. This ruling firmly closes that door. They can no longer say it was a big boy and he ran away.

The assumption has to be that any club that fails to conduct due diligence and appoints a Craig Whyte figure would be charged with bringing the game into disrepute. Regan needed to say that today to provide some context for the SFA decision.

But, to paraphrase Paul, the rules are less the problem than the culture at the SFA. Change that culture so that fairness, impartiality, transparency and accountability are core values and who knows what could happen.

I didn’t get a chance to read the newspaper story when I was in Spar, so I don’t know if it was just mindless vandalism or something more sinister.

  22. Re: cooper.

I remember back in the early/mid 80’s, a neighbour had a young relative visit her, he was a keen Aberdeen fan.

Anyway, she asked if I could take him to the game that day, they were playing rangers, at Ibrox, grrrrr.

Being the gentleman I am, I said ok. (Aberdeen were very good then, rangers were dreadful)

Aberdeen won the game comfortably, 3-1 I think, but the thing I noticed was that rangers had only one outball, and that was to cooper.

No matter whether keeper, defender, midfielder, whenever they got the ball they only had one thing on their mind, get it to him.

Aberdeen nullified his threat, and that was their whole plan beat, they had no other options apart from him, no other outball.

That is why I like to see us playing with a very fluid set up, with many different options.

In the past we have seen McGeady being played as the main outball, and sometimes nowadays, Forrest, which is fine if they are on their A game, when they aren’t, it stultifies us to an extent.

In short, always have a plan B. :))
