Fit & proper waste of time

The proposed SFA rule change, that clubs must conduct an investigation into prospective new owners, went through unopposed at the Association’s AGM, currently underway at Hampden.  No formal rules must be observed during this investigation, not even the ‘Gandhi criminal rule’ postulated by (still) SPL chief executive, Neil Doncaster, so a club can look into the matter as deeply as they see appropriate and the former owner can claim he was “duped” after the money appears in his bank account.

This does not strengthen efforts to keep unfit people from owning Scottish clubs, if anything, it provides errant clubs with a defence.  Previously it was explicitly the club’s responsibility to ensure owners were fit and proper, now the club’s responsibility is limited to carrying out an unspecified value judgement.  Tune in soon to hear “We carried out an investigation consistent with best practice, why punish us?”

In this instance, value judgements are worth as much as Ibrox valuations. It’s not the rules that are wrong, the only problem is one club didn’t respect the rules and doesn’t like the medicine.

No mention yet of the dark Fifa cloud hanging over the Association. Perhaps it’s slipped their mind.

  1. Afternoon bhoys, i’m looking for your support for a local charity i’m heavily involved with here on the island, one of my friends and well known WWE wrestler JBL is attempting to climb the 7 highest summits in the world over the next 2 years with all the money raised going to a local charity which works with the at risk kids in the community, I know that everyone is struggling at the moment but any small donation you can make could make a massive difference in the life of a kid. We work day and night with some of these kids through sports coaching, homework academies and sometimes something as simple as getting them some healthy food. I’ve seen the great work done through this site in relation to charitable works and i’m hoping you may think about making a small donation to our cause here in Bermuda.

What about after the Euros have gone and the Polish league resumes?

You never know. If you read the newspapers you probably know that Venus decided to pass sun today to celebrate Queen’s jubilee. You never know.

  4. Bourne – no rain here at the mo and looks as if it’ll stay away for the rest of the evening. You will notice that was an out of character weather prediction from me!

Let me know how the FA level 2 compares to SfA stuff.

I’m interested in FA plans to develop kids via 9v9 games.

I really like this format for stronger players from age 10 onwards- it is the perfect intermediate step from 7s to the full 11s.

Spain and Germany also promote 9’s.

  6. Saw that Lennybhoy will the SFA/SPL ever do this shower and does this mean that the European authorities will now hammer Scottish football.

I’m afraid you did not understand my posts.

Could you make good use of your internet skills and find reports about how Ireland , England , Germany, Russia were welcomed to Poland?

There must be plenty posts of the Irish who are already here.

I know what they say but it would be good if you read more and watch more.

No deal with changing my nickname.

  10. A big good evening hail hail out to you all!

Chris McLaughlin’s tweet has been confirmed that the SFA are breaking no rules in the punishment sentenced to RFC(IA) (by the man himself). So what does this mean in real money?

I see from posts above AEK have been served with a transfer ban (and 5 others?) in the Greek league…

The statement by Stuart Regan, coupled with recent deliberations by Neil Doncaster illustrate the depths to which football governance in Scotland have plumbed. And it is not as if they were in shallow waters before. The proposal referred to by Paul67 here today, is so meaningless and so irrelevant, that its’ passing must be one of the most pointless acts ever perpetrated by a sporting body. For those of us more sceptical of the position of Celtic in all this, the club’s participation in such, ( in the immortal words of John Major) a bogus sham brings us no credit at all. I have reached the position where I do not see any purpose in the SPL continuing at all next season, and if I ever had any hope that the SFA could salvage some credibility from this whole farryago then those hopes are sinking faster than the Titanic. I stated on here a couple of weeks back that it is impossible for both the SPL and the SFA to continue in existence. That they share the same roof is bad enough but I will venture that Venus will return sooner than either of these morally bankrupt organisations share the responsibility for the disgrace that is Scottish football.

I’m sure that all the above teams were given a great reception upon arrival in Poland, but that doesn’t detract from the point that racist incidents do occur at certain matches in the Polish league

Can’t reimpose the embargo. If, hypothetically they were told accept the embargo or we will issue a stiffer punishment i.e. suspension, expulsion or withdrawal of their licence, they will have grounds to go back to CoS and tell them that they are being badgered into withdrawing Glennie’s decision.

They will get one of the following: Thrown out of the Cup (unlikely in my opinion), suspended (likely), expelled (maybe), licence withdrawn (unlikely).

The only way the embargo will be reimposed is if they voluntarily withdraw the CoS decision.

They could actually reimpose the embargo. And i would put money on FIFA telling them to do just that. FIFA do not recognise court decisions on internal footballing matters.

  24. SHAY Given says he was blown away by the welcome he and the Irish squad received in Poland yesterday.

“Great support from the Polish people today. Thanks so much for the welcome,” he told them.

Cheerleaders and streamers greeted the Irish squad at the stadium in Gdynia in front of 15,000 Polish people.

The session was Ireland’s first run-out in Poland as they prepare for their Euro 2012 Group C encounters with Croatia, Spain and Italy.

There was some concern when Shay did not take part in the training session.

But manager Giovanni Trapattoni has played down reports that Shay won’t be fit in time for Sunday’s game against Croatia.

Reports suggested he had a calf strain as he sat out training on Tuesday.

“He was just tired,” insisted the manager.

Aiden McGeady meantime has earned his side some extra time off after saying the training was leaving the players tired.

“Training has been of such a high intensity that I think a lot of the players felt a bit jaded,” said Aiden

“A lot of the players were saying that at half-time (against Hungary), that they felt pretty sluggish in their feet. I think that was the overwhelming factor in the first half.

“In the second-half we picked it up a bit. I think we need to take it easy on training.”

Zbyszek..especially for you .. Enjoy the festivities yourself and your people HH
