Fixtures in 2003, 2008, and 19th C Glasgow

925

The mind is a remarkable thing.  If you ask around, you’ll find Celtic fans tell you we played Boavista in the Uefa Cup semi-final in Porto on the Thursday night, before going to Ibrox on the Saturday (it was the Sunday).

Similarly, Barry Ferguson is mumping his gums without restrain today, complaining about Rangers fixtures in May 2008.  Rangers were due to play a ridiculous number of games in May due to qualifying for the Scottish Cup and Uefa Cup finals, while catching up on postponed fixtures.

The SPL decided to accommodate them by extending the league programme until two days before the Scottish Cup final.  This final was on the last possible date before clubs were ordered to release players for that year’s Uefa European Championships, which started 14 days later.

This season has echoes of 2008 but nothing more.  Whereas clubs would have been forbidden from using certain players after the date of the Scottish Cup final in 2008, under current proposals for this year, the second bottom club from the Premiership and qualifier from the Championship will need to retain a number of players beyond their contract end date of 31 May.

Retaining players beyond 31 May will cost clubs money, and players could theoretically refuse to extend their season by a few days, which is this season’s problem.  2008’s problem was a hard deadline imposed by Uefa with no extensions possible.  The decision was out of the SPL’s hands.

Great article on the club site today marking Br. Walfrid’s passing and the struggles faced by our forefathers in the late 19th Century.  The news that the Foundation are feeding 500 of Glasgow’s homeless today continues the momentum from Wednesday night.  Well done to all involved.

I think he is a smashing player and would fit well into Ronnys philosophy. Your idea of a swap with McGeouch is worth a punt. Great passer..sees the pass early and a bit gallus. I like watching this young hibs team, Stubbs doing a great job in his first year.

I don’t tend to take sides either for some reason, I can agree with all Celtic fans despite the diversity on CQN at this very moment, (slow news day) as already commented.

Privately and not on the Blog I open up on where I stand especially on ‘the big lie’ ‘the old firm’ and any potential ‘alleged’ Celtic complicity.

The story has not finished yet, as I head for season ticket number XX.

Hey dena29 you didn’t defend me when Tom called my the pastor jack glass of cqn? That’s not fair!

Tom I have to say I am still giggling to myself at that insult. It really is brilliant. Hats off.

maybe because I dont know you or pastor jack so cant honestly say if the comparison is an insult :-)) but saying someone has crawled from under a stone and refer to their drinking (of which I also know nothing) is a step too far for me

No response from any SPFL clubs whose Board Members papers were copied to.

One journo contacted belatedly did at least have a look at the case presented and found it sound but not ready to take it further.

He also thought the SH advert was bad idea and Res12 would get nowhere.

In that respect I think his judgement faulty.

Just walked into a hairdressers in a south yorkshire town with my hoops on n a guy jumps up n came over n spoke to me,apparently he’s a relation of a famous old Celtic player, the guy said all his family come from Blantyre.

McGeuoch’s doing well. I’d have a scout from now till the end of the season watching Scott Allan along with Obedbai? – who plays for Kilmarnock.

  10. Dena29 I think the pastor jack glass thing is wonderfully insulting :) I’m still laughing just now.

Re what else we can do. I have been nagging Auldheid to write a book on the entire sorry story so that we have it written as a reference for future generations to know about the cheating and the cover up of the cheating.

Traditionally and instinctively, I would prefer a Hibs win, but in this case, my pragmatic wish would be a Falkirk victory.

A Hibs loss would focus all their attention on the play offs, with the distraction of a cup final.

Hopefully quite a few will leave in the summer but we’ll still struggle to play all those midfielders left.

I already have my doubts about the ex Dundee Utd lads, wasting careers sitting on the bench or playing out of position.

  22. Scrolled back on the eve of a Cup Semi and have been astonished at the tone and content of some of the posts. If it was a late night shift, I would have blamed the booze but I can’t use that as a mitigating factor today.

I must say I find one dimensional posters a bit tiresome. Surely common sense would tell anybody that making thousands of posts day after day, week after week, year after year, effectively repeating the same thing is not the way to win friends or influence people. It is also a shocking waste of precious time.

Anyhow to-morrow is now most important game of the year. The Treble is on the line and we need to start like we played once we lost the goal to Killie. Nothing less will do.

Now that he’s went to the big fire, there is no need for security at said place!

Very poor offside decision against Hibs with their man through on goal.

30 mins to go and the second half is coming to life with Hibs pushing for a goal.

  26. Some run and shot by Scott Allan, touched on to the bar by keeper. Hibs look impressive, they would tear Sevco apart on this form.

  27. Scott Allan at Hibs just beat 3 players and crashed a shot off the bar.

That boy’s seriously talented. I hope Celtic are paying attention.
