Forster proves a wiser choice last year than Sandomierski

982

News that Fraser Forster has signed a long term contract with Celtic, who will pay Newcastle United £2m for his services, adds some welcome stability ahead of the Champions League qualifiers.  Buying a new, first-choice, keeper is fraught with the kind of difficulties Neil Lennon would rather avoid.

Last summer we looked at Croatian international Stipe Pletikosa, who performed at the European Championships, but he failed to impress during his trial period at Celtic, including a poor performance against Wolves at Celtic Park.

Last year we also looked at Polish cap, Gregorz Sandomierski, who subsequently went to Belgian club racing Genk for €3m, but he failed to make a competitive appearance for Genk and was shipped back to Poland on loan. By comparison, Forster, who turned 24 on St Patrick’s Day, cemented his place with the champions.

Last year Celtic concluded a provisional deal with Newcastle to sign Fraser on a permanent deal this summer but although player and club were both keen to do business, negotiations took until the end of the players’ summer break, perhaps reflecting a tightening of Celtic’s finances ahead of what could be a period of financial uncertainty in the Scottish game.

I posted a while ago that I thot it would be 2 years after this season.

What I was told yesterday, and it has a ring of truth about it…..is that the sfa will be taken over, or imalgimated into the english system.

    That would do for me.

Otherwise it’s sort the referees, sort the problem.

I was very surprised when you brought that info to the blog and nobody (apart from me) questioned you about it, you really couldn’t have got a much better source and the events shortly after provide some weight to it.

I’ve been thinking, perhaps more in hope for a while that CFC have a plan and they’re working away at it in the background while the football authorities destroy Scottish football.

    Got to go later amigos…

  6. Haven’t posted in a while and trying to catch up and tune into the stream of consciousness in this forum can be difficult. Is Werner von Braun now working for the club with no name or is it just another 2 bob rocket?

Hi Amigo – no SFA & no SPL = all big office attractions in one package.

Celtic would be huge in the English league in terms of home and away pay per view. The Celtic pound still has credibility in a bankrupt, dying league.

Celtic are welcome anywhere, the old firm label ain’t welcome anywhere!

Anyone ever ridden a bike around Arran? Plan to do it tomorrow, starting at whiting bay. Would like to know if I should go anti clockwise or clockwise around the island. I have a reasonable level of fitness and hope to complete in 6 hours or so. Is that realistic?

Aye, tis all about the money, sad really, but a stark reality.

Celtic are indeed a global brand, and every single chairman in europe and much of the rest of the world know it.

The sfa have no credibility left, but it’s no easy to just disband them, the GB team at the olympics is the first step to a brit league, this is what I hope our club is pushing for behind the scenes.

  16. Whitecrook Tim- it was good to meet you yesterday, albeit ever so briefly as you were leaving.

Mic1888- it was a real pleasure to play with yourself, Colin and Jim, really pleased you and your son had a good day.

Bada Bing- I’ve played there many times, a very enjoyable course, and always in good condition, if you get a nice day you will love it, the view of the Ochils from the 1st tee alone is worth the journey. Not a weak hole on the course. A good contender for the CQN society?

“I wouldn’t be in the least bit surprised if Campbell finds himself being squeezed out of Hampden, just as Bain succeeded in squeezing him out of Ibrox. For what its worth, I’d like to see him make contact with Donald Findlay to beef up John Brown’s takeover plans and utilise his football administration skills to put more pressure on Charlie Green.

  23. and Doncaster,and Longmuir…..

So,when will Dunfermline FC announce their intention to sue the SPL for their loss of Premier League status,as a consequence of the dilatory and incompetent investigation of the Dual Contracts Issue at R*nkers(IA) ?

The enquiry commenced on 5th March,

when the competitive season still had some way to go,and the primary focus should have been to establish the integrity of the ongoing competitions..

The SPL should have demanded immediate clarification on whether any current R(IA) players participating in competitions were recipients of undisclosed dual contracts.

Investigation into historical use of EBT/Dual Contracts in previous seasons would best be deferred until further information was available when the outcome of the FTT is revealed.

As has been mentioned elsewhere,Davis and Whittaker are believed to have Dual Contracts…and if matches where they participated were awarded 3-0 in favour of the opposing team,R*nkers(IA) would have ended the season in bottom position, and would rightfully have been relegated.

Just as importantly, they would not have been awarded the £900,000 prize money for their illegal second place, and other clubs would have received their deserved uplift of prize money,by virtue of finishing one place higher in the league.
