Freaky seven goal Europeans

699
Seven goal scores are remarkably scarce in football but for the second time this month we look ahead to a Champions League opponent who has recently scored that number in a single game.  Helsingborgs went to town on Swedish Allsvenskan side Kalmar yesterday.  Kalmar are struggling in the league this season but were faring better in Europe until Young Boys of Berne overturned a Europa League deficit against them on Thursday.

Form appears to vary widely in the Swedish league, not idea circumstances for placing a bet.

Midweek friendly internationals will not help Neil Lennon’s preparations as Celtic face the third of five games on the road in the Highlands on Saturday before heading to Sweden, especially as the early season injury count rises inexplicably.  I would caution against risking too much on a bet on the Ross County game for this reason.  County’s remarkably year-long run without a league defeat might stretch another week.

The first issue of CQN Magazine of the new season is due to be with you soon.  If you would like to contribute an article to a future edition let me know, articles@cqnmagazine.co.uk.  Final shout also for anyone who would like to advertise to the same address.

    Jelly And Gelato – Yup.

They’re definitely going with the Big Lie strategy.

Thing is, most Rangers supporters I’ve met have a peculiarly childish mentality when it comes to this sort of thing. When confronted with facts they don’t want to hear they’ll thqueam and they’ll thqueam until they’re thick.

It’s a major reason why their club went out of existence: not only did the Scottish media want to put a positive spin on all things Rangers, but the fans just didn’t want to hear anything but the most arslikhan of commentary on their club. It was a symbiotic relationship. If Sir David Murray in his pomp had been caught stealing sweeties from an infant the Daily Record would have praised his hands-on approach to fighting childhood obesity, and all of their fans would have agreed. They werra peepul, and all that.

I guess in some sort of spiritual sense you might say that Sevco is the reincarnation of Rangers, if the spirit of Rangers can be compared with a malevolent incorporeal entity which lurked in the void before manifesting itself in our world.

Like Vigo the Carpathian in Ghostbusters II, or for younger readers, the endless schemes to bring back Lord Voldemort. (thumbsup)

  2. Afternoon, you trying to set expectations at a low level Paul :) , while not a walkover I would take this tie every year as a route into the Champions league, we should be too good over the two legs.

Hope Dylan makes a speady recovery he was looking the part on Saturday, he is one of a number of good young players who deserve a chance this season.

For thoses asking about the games being on TV, I use this site, it has been pretty accurate over the last few seasons. Has us on ITV for away leg and Sky for the home one. http://www.live-footballontv.com/

Further information which blows the theory of seperation of club and company completely out of the water. The most recent Share Issue in The Rangers Football Club Plc was in November 2004. Here is the press release accompanying this rights issue:

    http://www.plus-sx.com/newsItem.html?newsId=905043

Here are a few snippets from it. Bits in bold are my own emphasis.

    ——————————–

Rangers announces that it is offering up to 57,276,477 new ordinary shares at 100 pence per share to qualifying shareholders through a Rights Issue.

During the summer of 2002, the board set out to implement a three year plan to

    stabilise the Club’s finances.

MIH through MHL has agreed to provide the level of support to the Rights Issue

which will allow the Club to restructure its financial base. As a result of this increased financial commitment by MIH to the Club, David Murray announced his decision to return as Executive Chairman on 1 September 2004.

The Business operations of the Club all performed well against budget during the year.

In addition on 4th November 2004 Bank of Scotland entered into a facility

agreement with the Club. Under this agreement, additional details of which are set out in the Prospectus, Bank of Scotland has agreed to provide the Club with up to GBP15 million on a revolving credit basis to finance the ongoing working capital requirements of the Club and up to GBP22 million on a fixed term basis to refinance part of the Club’s existing bank debt.

    ————————

Note the use of the word club instead of company. Thankfully the prospectus provides definitions and one is:

“Rangers”, “ Club” or “Company” – The Rangers Football Club PLC, incorporated under the Companies Acts and having its registered office at

    lbrox Stadium, Glasgow .

Therefore when asking potential investors to invest in The Rangers Football Club Plc, the board of directors considered the club and company to be one seperate entity.

  5. Afternhoon bhoys, stiffiling hot, but as ever hun free.

So the huns have handed over 50k to the sfa to pay off their debt to scottish football.

Celtic alone were due 40k, and the sfa about 160k, must admit don’t know how much is due to the other scottish clubs.

So have we agreed a CVA with them, how much in the pound are we getting ???

    Something no right here

GD, Humour me. You didn’t perchance, perhaps work also with a bearded Arab fan who has recently departed for London Town did ya?

Because said Arab regaled me with stories of a Wolves fan who shot down the road from G-town most weeks who was also on the money about a lot of things, mainly making money out of his team losing right enough.

  10. !!Bada Bing!!

TV rights for play-off games outwith control of clubs. UEFA have taken over these rights in a similar way to CL group stage and clubs get more money from participation in play-off round.

  13. Mort-Cheers,might explain a lower than usual ticket price than for previous games of this nature.

  14. kelvin wilson not a bad game ,first half against real.but no not for me to slow. another one who was found out was matthews ,caught out to many times ,and to think lennon let cha, and mark wilson who i reckon was the best out of the 3 of them go.as for dylan get well son,

  15. Wilson looked a bit better, but he looks made of straw during a physical challenge. The latest in a long line of CBs,who don’t punch their weight.

  16. !!Bada Bing!!

With a guaranteed €2.1m from UEFA for reaching the play-offs, Celtic can easily make good money from the game by selling tickets at a reduced price and having a bigger attendance will help the team.

I think you’re being very harsh on Matthews. Yes he found it tough going on Saturday but I think that if you take into account the quality of players that he in particular was facing on the right hand side then he should be given some leeway.

  18. It would be interesting to know who the agents of Emilson Cribari and Andre Mortiz were.

The Sevco scam starts to gain momentum…

  19. Mort-Agree,I thought the ticket prices for the EL last season was far too high, specially considering 2 games kicked off at 6 PM.As wee Fergus said better getting 60,000 paying £10 rather than 30,000 paying £20.HH

  20. It’s encouraging that Celtic’s European away form graph is rising after some excellent results in last season’s Europa exploits and the fine result against Helsinki. We hear the Swedish press is rubbing there hands with glee at the prospect of taking on Celts in the Champions Lge. That’s the perfect scenario, I seem to remember Helsinki were also confident of sending us packing.

News I’m hearing over here (Italia) – Llorente in talks with Juventus!

    HH!!

  22. Would go with a back line of Lustig Rogne Wilson Mulgrew for height, other teams have seen the flaw with our back line which is short arsed wing-backs.

The Finns played the crossball over Matthews as did RM.

  23. Carrigan on 13 August, 2012 at 15:02 said

or play Lustig, Rogne & Mulgrew as a three with Ki, Kayal & Ledley in front of them, and play Matthews and Izzy as wing backs

  24. Reports in Sweden that Helsingborgs best player Alfred Finnbogason has played his last game for the club. He is on loan from Lokeren and the agreement expires this week.

  25. Tallybhoy

I made up the quote from the Bilbao president. I thought people would have sussed that … :0(

  26. Kayal, could work but i thought Matthews and Izzy looked lost when we tried that before.

Pity that big vic will be missing.

  27. Thanks to the bhoys who replied to my request last night, may as well ask again,

I am looking for suggestions for good sports books available on kindle, nothing too heavy, just something to read on holiday, cheers in advance

  28. In regard to Alfred Finnbogason, I read the match report from their 7-2 game and if he had not been on the park it would have been 2-2.

It will be a huge blow if they lose him and it is probably why they are recalling David Accam from Ostersunds FK just weeks after allowing him to go on loan.

I for one am feeling a WHOLE lot better about this tie.
