Freaky seven goal Europeans

699
Seven goal scores are remarkably scarce in football but for the second time this month we look ahead to a Champions League opponent who has recently scored that number in a single game.  Helsingborgs went to town on Swedish Allsvenskan side Kalmar yesterday.  Kalmar are struggling in the league this season but were faring better in Europe until Young Boys of Berne overturned a Europa League deficit against them on Thursday.

Form appears to vary widely in the Swedish league, not idea circumstances for placing a bet.

Midweek friendly internationals will not help Neil Lennon’s preparations as Celtic face the third of five games on the road in the Highlands on Saturday before heading to Sweden, especially as the early season injury count rises inexplicably.  I would caution against risking too much on a bet on the Ross County game for this reason.  County’s remarkably year-long run without a league defeat might stretch another week.

The first issue of CQN Magazine of the new season is due to be with you soon.  If you would like to contribute an article to a future edition let me know, articles@cqnmagazine.co.uk.  Final shout also for anyone who would like to advertise to the same address.

I would expect Lenny to be prioritising CL qualifiers … Not too bothered about odds on that one but expect to see some of the future team getting a run v Ross Co. there comes a time when they should be tested at SPL level and there will be adequate time to claw back any ground lost.

No more knocks and niggles before Helsinborgs.

£20m game by all accounts – take no chances Celts!

It would have taken a brave man to bet against Brazil’s men winning footballing gold at London 2012 – the Selecao boasted some of the best talent ever seen at an Olympic tournament, including Thiago Silva, Neymar, Marcelo, Oscar, Hulk, Alexandre Pato, Lucas and Leandro Damiao.

But Mano Menezes’ men were stunned in Saturday’s final as they fell to a shock 2-1 defeat to Mexico at Wembley. The hero was Santos Laguna striker Oribe Peralta, who scored both of El Tri’s goals in the showpiece.

The deadlock-breaker came after just 28 seconds, the fastest goal in the history of the Olympics since Fifa began keeping records in 1976. Peralta’s clincher arrived on 75 minutes with a clinical header. “I dreamed about this moment. It is one of those things you don’t get to live every day,” the forward beamed at full time.

Peralta was also decisive in the 3-1 semi-final victory over Japan earlier in the week, scoring Mexico’s second goal on 65 minutes when the game was tied at 1-1. The 28-year-old finished the competition as third top-scorer with four goals, and it is no surprise that he has been linked with a move to Italy’s Serie A

  11. Just realised Green said they had paid £50,000 to clear all their debts with Scottish clubs and the SFA. I thought they owed us £50,000 alone never mind anyone else.

I appreciate you trying to help but everytime I sign in and click on the Helsingborgs ticket link I get this comment only: SEASON TICKET HOLDERS: After logging in, tick the reserved seat you want to buy and click ADD TO BASKET.

I just purchased mine on-line 2 minutes ago. The tickets are only available to season ticket holders at this time.

By the way, £1.50 internet charge! wtf?

Agree entirely. Without a bone fide Reserve League our young players do not have the same match structure as those in the past. They need opportunities and as shown by James Forrest, and hopefully Dylan McGeough, some are capable of taking them. Tony Watt and Marcus Fraser look to have something too let us see more of them. Need must, but as a general rule play the fit healthy player, and go easy on the cortisone.

Peter Lawwell must be walking around with a constant you-know-what!

  20. cardiffbhoy,

the guy who sits beside me in work is a season ticket holder at Wolves. Travels down to about half of their games so I’ve just asked him about Johnson.

He said he was appalling last season, complete shadow of the player he had been. As a result fans got on his back, made him worse. Apparently ended the season out of the team after turning up for training slightly worse for wear!

I didn’t see much of Wolves last year, but this bloke is normally on the money with his opinions – so just thought I’d pass this on for info.

He has just said to me he thinks we should go for Berra though, apparently he has handed in a transfer request.

  21. Weekend team for me

    Forster

    Matthews. Lustig. Wilson. Izzy

    Kris. Vic. Kayal. McCourt

    Watt. Hooper

Rest few , far from our strongest 11 but draw wouldn’t be worse thing to happen. Would love couple early goals and take vic,Matthews ad hopper off early 2nd half.

  22. In relation to Sevco…

If you look at the Uefa website, you can see that there used to be a team called ‘Rangers’ who played in the SPL. Their last game was back in May against St. Johnstone. They haven’t played since apparently.

There’s no mention of any new club, ‘The Rangers’ or such-like.
