There’s something not right about a free weekend in early March; we should still have been in the Cup. Congratulations are therefore due to the five managers who remain in the competition, who have each shown remarkable abilities and are truly invaluable resources to their respective clubs – worth contract extensions all round.
Congratulations are also due to the 40,000 Aberdeen fans who will pack Celtic Park next weekend for the League Cup Final. Opponents, Inverness, have shifted only 7,000 of their 20,000 allocation, although I hear there is a brisk trade in tickets this morning, many of which will end up in the hands of Aberdeen supporters.
40,000 Aberdeen fans at a game may be unprecedented, despite the 147,365 attendance at their 1937 Scottish Cup Final against Celtic. No one was to know demand would be so buoyant from Aberdeen, but now the SPFL do know, they need to ensure the spare circa 13,000 tickets are sold to Aberdeen fans in a controlled manner.
Many thanks to everyone who donated to Mary’s Meals since the MyDonate link went up on Friday. We are more than halfway there to funding the second school kitchen, at St Joseph’s Primary School in Kasungu, Malawi. Stunned at the response. You can get involved here.
Seville, The Celtic Movement, launches this month.
“It might not happen anytime soon but sometime down the line I’d like to think we could get there again. Maybe even go that extra mile and win the Cup. Henrik Larsson was our hero in this outstanding run and we’d probably need to look at finding another Henrik to get us there again! Remember that Celtic recently finished ahead of Benfica in Champions League Group stages and they dropped into the Europa Cup, reached the final and were very unlucky not to win it.”

I’m a big Billy Bremner fan. He was very skillful but it was his almost fanatical never-give-up attitude and fighting spirit that marked him out. I think Leeds Utd rate him as their ever greatest player. One that Celtic let slip by.

John Cairney wrote in his book ( heroes are forever) obout the amount of goals Pele
Claimed
In his opinion Jimmy McGrory’s 550 goals in 547 games was a better achievement

I was at the Scotlland Brazil game in 1966 and can assure you Bremner kicked Pele up and down the park. He was taken off injured before half-time.
100,000 people turned up to see Pele, and Bremner spoiled it for everyone.
________________
I was at the game – your post kind of mirrors my recollections (more than robust).
IIRC – Pele was never fully fit during the ’66 WC in England and Brazil’s progress suffered as a result.

We can post them out, but P&P has to be paid, bank transfer, paypal can be used, but another charge for this, they charge us.
Or meet prior to a game at CP, St Mirren on 22nd, from around 2pm outside the Pools office.
Before another game if you can’t make that one. Cash on delivery for those.

Pele was kicked off the park during the ’66 WC in England.
I remember watching every minute of that WC in black & white.
Pele and his mates were on a totally different level from everybody else during the ’70 WC in Mexico.
I remember watching every minute of that WC in glorious colour.

best i seen for a while Thom
I see the tops clubs in England are trying to woo the best central defender in Scotland
with a record £10m bid in the summer. Papers are full of it !!!!!!
Surely swally will absolutely not want to lose his Bilel Mohsni at such a cheap price
after his stunner of a goal against the mighty Rovers and his seven goals this season
Bilel has previous goal scoring record playing with Southend United in Engerland.
Sure the sevco poundland board with block any bid
It all depends how you see things.
Whilst most of us think that Albion Rovers were robbed of a semi final place, BBC Scotland thinks that they have done marvelously well to earn a few bob out of a replay.

Fabulous pictures. I saw one of hers last week of an Irish Setter, I think, on the dunes at Carrickfinn. Beautiful.

Notes:
The Birth Certificate of Pele (No. 7095, sheet 123, book 21-A of the Registry of Tres Coraçoes – his hometown -) shows the name “Edison Arantes do Nascimento” and the date of birth October 21, 1940. Pele has always maintained that he was actually named Edson and that he was born on October 23, 1940 as it is written in the Certificate of Baptism.
The substitution of the Brazilian player Servilio de Jesus Filho is in 46 Minutes in some sources.
This source (which might be wrong) doesn’t have Pele having been substituted.
If VVD moves this summer, I believe that he will be making the same mistake as Wanyama.
Victor should have stayed at least another season, to sort out the weaknesses in his game.
Likewise Virgil.

According to this story Stevie Chalmers swapped shirts with Pele at the end of the game. It is in the DR so must be true.
OldTim, I discovered a tonic water called Fever Tree a few weeks ago, it makes a very good gin great, give it a try. Sainsbury’s, a bit more expensive that most, but worth it.

If we fail to qualify for the CL ……then there isn’t much scope for VVD to learn anything …he strolls thro SPL games on a weekly basis

Talking to a Sevconian at work today.
Even he reckoned it was no goal .
Detect a change in his demeanour, always had a smart ass answer when confronted with the facts, always prepared to defy logic.
Have some of them began to see through the tissue of lies flung at them. I swear, I’m sure he was flush with embarrassment .
Then again, probably not!

Really? Which ones are your faves? Those with a racist undertone? The misogynist variants? Or, perhaps, the ‘good ole boy’, neo-liberal American dream types? I think he occasionally posts ‘flip-flops’ on the team, usually telling NFL how he should do his job…
So many choices…
