Free weekends just not right

602

There’s something not right about a free weekend in early March; we should still have been in the Cup.  Congratulations are therefore due to the five managers who remain in the competition, who have each shown remarkable abilities and are truly invaluable resources to their respective clubs – worth contract extensions all round.

Congratulations are also due to the 40,000 Aberdeen fans who will pack Celtic Park next weekend for the League Cup Final.  Opponents, Inverness, have shifted only 7,000 of their 20,000 allocation, although I hear there is a brisk trade in tickets this morning, many of which will end up in the hands of Aberdeen supporters.

40,000 Aberdeen fans at a game may be unprecedented, despite the 147,365 attendance at their 1937 Scottish Cup Final against Celtic.  No one was to know demand would be so buoyant from Aberdeen, but now the SPFL do know, they need to ensure the spare circa 13,000 tickets are sold to Aberdeen fans in a controlled manner.

Many thanks to everyone who donated to Mary’s Meals since the MyDonate link went up on Friday.  We are more than halfway there to funding the second school kitchen, at St Joseph’s Primary School in Kasungu, Malawi.  Stunned at the response.  You can get involved here.

Seville, The Celtic Movement, launches this month.

“It might not happen anytime soon but sometime down the line I’d like to think we could get there again. Maybe even go that extra mile and win the Cup. Henrik Larsson was our hero in this outstanding run and we’d probably need to look at finding another Henrik to get us there again! Remember that Celtic recently finished ahead of Benfica in Champions League Group stages and they dropped into the Europa Cup, reached the final and were very unlucky not to win it.”

    hun skelper,

I’m afraid that is where we are and it has been spelled out to us, therefore no one should be surprised.

The alternative is to be like Dundee Untd., and others, who have to bring on youth players, secure in the knowledge that they will be allowed time to develop.

We don ‘t have that luxury .

I wouldn’t be surprised that it is contractual with these young prospects, like Vic, VVD and Biton for example, that if a bid of x amount comes in, then they can go.

Otherwise, we would be trawling in the waste bin of the lower English leagues, signing waning talent and getting nowhere fast.

    Thee answer?

Get us out of the SPFL.

Until then, we have to dig for raw diamonds and sell them on. Anything else is an unreasonable delusion.

  9. On selling VVD and Forster.

That is exactly what we set out to do.

Given the length of their contracts, and the clubs interested, we might get thirty million for the pair.

A wee bit more than Wanyama.

Then we can buy the worlds best prodigy from an obscure league and sell them for twenty million.

    And repeat.

But we can’t if we’re Everton.

With all due respect mi amigo, Carrigan is spot on, apart from the Lenny wants away bit.

The club will sell, sell sell, Lenny will suck it up, what other choice does he have, he is in his dream job, he gets a crack at CL football each season, he wins a league or 3,4,5,6, whatever.

He is on a hiding to nothing, but all the time he is enhancing his CV, maybes he knows something better is around the corner, maybes not, but 99.9% of the rest of managers would have walked had they been subjected to what Lenny has had to endure, he is the original not for walking away…the others are pretenders.

That’s exactly my recollection of the Scotland v. Brazil game. Bremnar kicked Pele to a standstill and we got the draw. Pity as Bremner was a good player.

  18. So if we are stuck in Scotland, we have a good revenue model.

And our aim is to win the UEFA cup.

And do well in the Champions League.

But what if we had a new resurgent rival, maybe the Dandy Dons, or The Dundee Hibs, or Just Hibs.

Or what if there were new teams from Glasgow and Edinburgh that hated us, and the rivalry made every game meaningful.

Now i think Scottish fitba could be the best supported league in the world, per capita, like it was.

    The model is to buy cheap, develop and sell for profit, that is the state of affairs, and if anyone comes in for any of the afore mentioned, and offers a profit, they are gone, they are gone faster than the ink can dry on the contract…. and if you believe otherwise, any chance of what you are drinking or toking on >}

  29. Like every Rangers fan, I was stunned on Valentine’s Day two years ago. But we missed an opportunity. To its credit, the Rangers Fans Fighting Fund was a superb scheme and raised a wonderful amount of money when there were huge fears Rangers would die.

But the RFFF didn’t go far enough. It seemed as though fans were waiting for a saviour, whether it was the Blue Knights, Brian Kennedy, Jim McColl and Walter Smith or, as it transpired, Charles Green and his cronies.

Administration should have provided the perfect opportunity for fans to mobilise to ensure it never happened again. After the simply astonishing squandering of money and obscene bonuses to board members under Green’s regime, Rangers can’t rule out admin mark two which is simply disgraceful.

This from a supposed more intelligent hun publication.

Administration !!!!!.Not a mention of liquidation.

He also only mentions “5 saviours”that were going to lead the hordes to the promised land.
