Frustration at Best difficult to understand

196

“Frustration” was apparently the order of the day for Celtic as Newcastle’s Leon Best decided against moving on loan for the remainder of the season, despite his club being happy to see him go, while a gaggle of other target-men were apparently courted.  Frustration; really?

We have Hooper, Stokes and Pawel Brozek fighting for no more than two forward spots, with Moh Bangura still waiting for his first proper run in the team and Georgios Samaras regularly drifting to the striker role from the left.  Different formations also call for only one striker with a creative central player, such as Forrest, Commons or maybe Rabiu Ibrahim.

Hooper and Stokes are both playing well, scoring regularly and will be difficult for Brozek to dislodge, not to mention Bangura.  Best, who is neither show-biz nor a player guaranteed to score a barrel-load, would either be this year’s Freddie Ljungberg, or if successful, would be improving his own development at the expense of a contracted Celtic player.

I’m as frustrated as I was the day we lost Marc-Antoine Fortune.

“The trouble for Ticketus comes if Rangers are liquidated and all they have is a piece of paper saying they own future revenues of tickets that can’t be sold.”

I think there is no chance that Ticketus will just be sitting with a piece of paper. There will be something else secured against the ticket sale/loan which they will call in when it goes belly up.

Security=Asbestosville as Paul ponted out. This is the only asset they have that would provide Ticketus with enough security

  2. Some top class bear on bear action on FF today. Here is a highlight from a thread posing the question “is Whyte trying to make Ally walk?” (Now I won’t even get into the semantics of walking and waddling):

“You forgot one thing Mr Whyte, Mcoist is an old school bear, he lives by two simple words. No Surrender.”

    the retort

“I’d rather AM lived by another 2 words. Win Games!”

  3. I agree, Paul

I was actually relieved when the deadline passed and we hadn’t signed another striker.

Hooper and Stokes have proven their ability in the SPL, Pawel looks like a goal-machine, Sammi is best out wide but it wouldn’t be a hardship if he had to play up front in the odd game, and if all else fails we still have Bangura and (even) Rasmussen to make up the numbers.

Indeed, the phrase “not true” is a politician’s classic:

“It has been alleged that I spent Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of last week as a guest of a foreign billionaire on his yacht near Cannes. This is simply not true. His yacht is anchored at Portofino.”

  8. Remember there was something in place which hid the directors/ownership of Wavetower or whatever they’re called now but essentially the company that held the £18M floating charge. Speculation at the time was that it may be some individuals that would rather not be named.

Is it possible/feasible that the reason that anonymity protection was put in place is not because it is individual(s) with alleged criminal connections, but a perfectly legal entity but which MBB would rather not have it widely known owned part of Wavetower/rfc and the floating charge?…….

Methinks that certain old Board members are making it as clear as possible that, whilst setting up the facility, they did not engage in this transaction.

Why? To try to avoid any suggestion of involveemtn in a criminal act (if non-payment of VAT is accurate).

Methinks that the DR is deliberately involved in assisting this position.

Methinks that some or all of these people now fancy they might be the rightful heirs to a newco.

The King is dead. Long live the King. But who is the King in this case?

    Newco 1 = Whyte RFC

Newco 2 = Old Board RFC

Newco 3 = Dave King SARFC

    Newco 4 = R F McColl’s RFC

Newco 5 = Park yer Bus RFC

Newco 6 = Return of the Mint RFC

Newco 7 = RST wearrapeepil RFC

Wonder how many applications Neil Doncaster might be asked to consider?

Perhaps the right tactic is for those Celtic men with a wee bit more dosh than me to create as many versions as possible thereby exposing this newco SPL fraud for the connivance it clearly is.

  14. Livibhoy @12:39,

The story about the club deck bond did the rounds a few nights ago on RTC. The long and short of it is when they go into insolvency the bond holders lose their place in the season ticket queue (no sniggering at the back) but are entitled to a full refund to the tune of circa £7.7m. The prospect of 5-10% of the total debts in insolvency being owed to your paying customers is what our learned American friends call ‘a game changer’.

Mort, Ticketus will have secured rights on sufficient assets (stadium) to ensure they can recoup their investment.

That might be correct but any charge has to be registered with Companies House and I can’t find any record of that associated with Rangers. It may have been from one of his other companies. The only reference to the season tickets at Companies House is that the proceeds of their sale have been removed from the floating charge Craig Whyte holds.

I made the same point last night. Should Celtic use the threat of pulling out of the TV deal should a New Hun FC be allowed straight into the SPL. What are they going to do throw us out of the league? i’d also like to see the SPL / SFA try and take us to court regarding this – that would be interesting.

Good point. I’d completely forgotten that the Sky/Espn contract would no longer be valid. A perfect time for us to act. We might still be bound though by SPL membership and therefore not able to go it alone.

For reasons previously mentioned on here I wouldn’t support a threat to quit in case we’re taken up on it. I would see this as part of negotiations for the restructuring of SPL.

Feel like I’m missing something re Best. Why so much antipathy?

I agree with Paul that a loan move for Best didn’t really make sense. On the other hand, i’ve seen a bit of Best this last couple of years and he is impressive in movement and workrate. He lacked a little confidence at EPL level but has found his feet. Has youth on his side. He’d have been a great permanent signing with genuine upside.

I get why some think 2nd rate EPLer and all that tabloid thinking, but, football is played on the park and if you watch him play he has a lot of the attributes we normally admire. Anyway, maybe we’ll be back for him in the summer, and I’d like to know what ‘other’ reasons we may not. He’s not good enough for an aspirational Newcastle…

This came up on RTC in the wee hours the other night. There is an article on E Tims at

    Can IPTV Save Celtic?

and the table in it has subsequently been updated to take Rangers out of the equation. The sums are all estimates of course and in the updated table at

    Celtic Individual TV bargainning

You could substitute Hearts for Rangers and assume the income might increase by 50% as opposed to 100% with Rangers as in the orginal.

I’m not saying it all hangs togther but it supports your point that losing Rangers is not necessarily a total loss of TV revenue if viable alternatives can be found.

I agree with most of what you’ve said. It’s clear there is now a race against time to get as much dirt thrown at Craig Whyte by the old board to ensure HE gets the flack when bankrupcy hits. There are just weeks till the FTT is announced and Moonbeams will be praying the smelly stuff hits the fan before then.

If it does then the tax case will be glossed over and history will be re-written that Craig Whyte was responsible for taking the club under and not Sir David Murray (knoghthood intact unlike Goodwin). If Whyte keeps them stumbling until then then, then its the Tax Case that spells armageddon. The timing is absolutely crucial and it’s running out.

I noticed the FTT just held had been delayed from a previous date in November. I’m sure this was procrastinating on the part of Moonbeam’s legal people to buy more time. It certainly wasn’t Whyte’s doing as we all know he has no control over the Tax Case.

You talk about “them” coming back though. I don’t know if you mean Paul Murray/King etc, but there is no way I can see David Murray returning. He simply won’t have the financial clout to massage his ego like he did in the 90s.

I think he will settle for stitching Whyte up in the media and walk away able to say “not my fault”. He gave them 30 trphies after all and Whyte chose to buy from him ;-)

It’s pefectly obvious his “Doctor’s appointment” was connected to this.

  33. The Honest Cover-up on

Meant to add, Whyte must be praying they LOSE the Tax Case. Then he is exoected to actually keep the club afloat and has no excuses. Perhaps Murray knew this and that is why the contracts stipulated that Whyte had no involvement in the defence.
