Gang of 10 changes will destroy Celtic

374

The BBC today report that the Gang of 10 SPL clubs have agreed a plan to re-write the rulebook of Scottish football in order to parachute Sevco into the second tier of the game.  They also report that Hibernian, Rod Petrie, briefed Charles Green of Sevco on their conditions to accept his company.  These conditions involve paying Rangers football debts and fines.

The plan involved the most almighty reorganisation of the league structure in order to gain enough support from lower league clubs to entice them to agree to place Sevco in the First Division.  They also want to take YOUR money in perpetuity to buy votes from lower league clubs, and have included a provision to allow them to vote for a share of home gates – all to establish a club called ‘Rangers’.

Crucially, the SFA, led by president Campbell Ogilvie and chief exec, Stewart Regan, have colluded in this scheme by not instructing the Appellate Panel to convene to consider Rangers punishment after the Court of Sessions told them to do so 30 days ago.  It is expected the Appellate Panel will suspend ‘Rangers’ from football for a year when it convenes.

The Gang of 10’s plan would require Rangers to withdraw their objection to the initial Appellate Panel ruling but it would also require the independent judicial overview of Scottish football to end before action is taken against the club for illegally registering players for over a decade, or for improper use of EBTs to scape social taxes, both of which are likely to expel the club.

Disciplinary rules cannot be changed because ‘Rangers’ are about to be punished.  Leagues cannot be restructured to allow a team bearing the name ‘Rangers’ an easy passage to the top.  This is no longer sport.

The utter stupidity of this scheme is staggering.  They are making plans with a man who owns a stadium but who cannot call on any supporters.  They are about to wreck Scottish football for a company who have yet to establish their financial viability.

Your money is being bargained away by every club in the SPL apart from Celtic.  Are you happy about this?  Will you continue to pay for Sky TV or ESPN?  Will you continue to buy tickets to attend away games?  Will you ever attend a League Cup or Scottish Cup game again?

Celtic paid their bills and conducted their business fairly and properly.  Be under no illusion, these changes will destroy the Celtic you recognise.  Forget your Champions League trips, you’ll be scraping the bottom of the barrel with ‘Sevco Rangers’ in a few years.  We cannot be exploited in this way.

It’s time the entire edifice of Scottish football was brought asunder, better that than be subject to random acts of destruction.  I cannot support any operation funding this enterprise so I’m cancelling Sky Sports and ESPN.

This whole notion has more holes in it than a string vest. Apart from all the moral/legal hurdles that would undoubtedly arise, the timescales involved would probably scupper it anyway.

Any talk of parachuting a corpse into Div 1, a cadaver that currently holds no valid licence, has no stadium, and insufficient players to field anything over a 7-a-side team is mere bluff.

The fact that certain sections of the Meeja in Scotland are attaching any significance to this “development” just goes to underline what we already knew about their analytical abilities. You couldnae trust them to find the gooleys on a Bull far less spot a feasible theory about the future of the game.

  2. myboysnowatim – love it.

They still don’t get it that there’s really nothing that’s been ‘taken’ from Rangers, instead, there were vast sums of money taken from Ticketus, HMRC and numerous other clubs in order to prop up a football club.

I would challenge any orc to specify an amount of money that Craig Whyte ‘burgled’ from their (ex)club and to inform me as to whether this amount exceeds that taken by the ex(club) from others.

I suspect that they can’t and that it would not come close, in that order.

Yes but that bit of paper is the key. It gives the holder the right to play in (and be relegated from) the SPL.

If Bill Gates rocked up tomorrow and said “I’ve always been a staunch supporter of Big Blue, I’ve cleared all the debts and bought back the assets. Let’s get on with it”. Rangers FC would carry on as if nothing had ever happened.

Technically speaking the current Rangers have got players, those who objected to transfer to Sevco, however, current Rangers with no stadium etc have no cash flow to pay these players and soon to have no SFA license so players will become free agents as registrations will revert to SFA.

You are correct in that if these plans do go ahead, it will only be a bit of paper that gets relegated.

  7. I’ve just cancelled the sports and ESPN on the Sky website using the chat facility. Conversation as follows: (I changed the guys name)

Welcome to Sky Live Chat Service. A Sky Advisor will be with you shortly. Your chat may be monitored and recorded for training, legal and compliance purposes.

You are now connected with Dave.

Dave: Hello, you’re chatting with Dave, a Sky advisor, may I take your name please?

    You: richard whitelaw

Dave: Hi Richard, how are you?

    You: good

Dave: Great, what brings you to chat today?

You: can I remove packages here or do I need to call

Dave: What are you looking to remove Richard?

    You: sports and espn

Dave: I should be able to help you there… Why are you looking to cancel these packages?

You: not used. I will renew next season dependant on resolution of RFC issues

Dave: Oh right, are you a big Rangers fan?

    You: diametrically opposite

Dave: Just wondered, I’m a Celtic fan myself…

    You: no to newco

    Dave: Haha, fun times!

Dave: So what are you thinking on the package then and how Rangers are involved?

You: I will not renew the package if there is a stitch-up to allow newco in SPL2, or anywhere else for that matter, if rules are bent to do this. If I am satisfied there has been no funny business, I’ll take the sports and BT next season. simples!

Dave: I understand, so you mean the Sky TV deal allowing the Newco to exist in the SPL?

You: latest ‘rumour’ is an SPL2. no matter, TV money is part of this and rightly or wrongly Sky TV are being held up as being implicit in all of this. Why not release a statement clarifying Sky’s position?

    You: not you personally !!

Dave: I know what you mean and I do have a statement from our customer communication team…

Dave: SKY have taken on board your feedback regarding broadcasting Scottish football, whilst we appreciate and understand your views we have no changes planned at present and SKY will continue to support all Scottish football teams and matches.

You: thanks for that. Can you confirm that the cancellation of the sports package and espn has gone though?

    Dave: I most certainly can…

    You: Cheers Dave…Hail Hail

    Dave: No probs…

They wouldn’t, it was merely an extreme example to show that while this whole talk of ‘relegation’ is risible, it’s still technically possible.

  11. So presumably General Meetings of both the SPL and SFL would need to approve this all in accordance with the current rules. And then the SFA would need to approve everything that is agreed. And all of this will happen in the next few weeks?

And all disciplinary rules will be amended or suspended to allow a club that has cheated for years to get away with it.

Meanwhile new rules will be included within the SPL to allow for an expansion, a second division and the relegation of that club on the grounds of not existing. This non existent club would however be able to pass its SPL (new) share to a club that doesn’t yet exits.

And presumably the new club will manage to meet whatever criteria are set for membership despite not actually being a football club. The rules will also be written so that SPL division 2 sides don’t need a UEFA License, or accounts, or history or even a business plan.

Why don’t they just award Sevco the next few years’ championships while they are at it? And a bonus for goof behaviour.

I agree with the first part of your suggestion.

However, much as I would love to see Celtic play Man Utd, Liverpool, Spurs etc on a weekly basis, I’m not sure that EUFA would bully the FA into accepting us. If they did, the press down here would turn on us, and so would the teams. The EUFA financial fair play scheme is not universally popular down here, (no surprises there then!!) so as a consequence, neither is EUFA. The concept of having a competition as to which level of the English game we would sit in, is a very interesting thought. However, for the clubs already within the FA that could possibly be ousted downwards as a result, there would be a lot of objection. When this subject has been raised before, this has been concern mostly widely expresswed by the teams that sit near the bottom reaches of the top 2 English leagues.

However, there has been many views expressed on CQN today that range from the dramatic, to no action whatsoever. I am not so arrogant as to assume that I know more than others. I believe that everyone has the right to an opinion. Funny thing is, sometimes the best suggestions come from those who know little about a subject in the first place.

I would classify myself, as my old Electrotechnology teacher used to say back in Thistle Street, as ‘Having enough knowledge just to make myself dangerous’ :-)

  16. Possibly jumping the gun by cancelling Sky/ESPN at the moment on a rumour from the BBC about a proposal by the SFA/SFL/SPL

I have every confidence in the Celtic support –led by a coordinated group including Celtic Trust, CSA, CQN etc–to react when the rumour becomes more than that.

Mass cancellations and bhoycotts will put Regan and Co in their place, if this threat materialises.

Ladies & Gentlemen, I’m disgusted like the rest of you.

As Paul suggests cancelling our satellite subscriptions is one thing we should do.

But beyond that I think we need to tell the club officials, other clubs supporters and officials, the football authorities in Scotland and elsewhere and frankly anyone else who’ll listen what we think about this and what we propose to do about it.

May I suggest we organise a poll to harness the power of CQN and the broader Celtic community to articulate our views first and then to communicate the actions we intend to undertake in support of them. Other views?

  18. First of all : this is the voice of rankers via the beeb…” let nation speak truth unto nation ” and all that propagandist nonsense.

  19. Jeez o – a lot of people on here flapping like goldfish on the floor. In the last few weeks Paul has gone from extreme highs (Rangers specific news) to extreme lows (SPL/SFA will stich us up).

If Messrs lawell, Riley and Desmond cannot ensure Celtic’s best interests are achieved during this unholy mess then nothing we say or do will change that.

By the way if Paul is cancelling Sky and ESPN shouldn’t he also remove the banner advert from CQN? Seems strange to damn them on the one hand and take their money on the other.

A few random thoughts and comments

I support Celtic. Have done for at least 55 years.

I wish Celtic were playing in a league outside Scotland.

I believe Celtic are greatly at fault in not creating an opportunity to play elsewhere.

I believe this failure has contributed to the weak situation Celtic now find themselves in viz a viz these alleged proposals. If they are boxed into a corner it is one of their own making. If no contingency plan exists then Celtic are at fault.

I believe in the concept of Sporting Competition.

Given that Celtic play in Scotland I support a re-jigged league structure in Scotland and a re-distribution of income to improve competition in Scotland.

I believe that the leadership of the SFA and SPL has failed the game in Scotland and must be replaced.

I believe the pathway to this change is via the goodwill and co-operation of fans groups throughout Scotland to impose pressure on their respective Boards to ensure change occurs at the top.

I believe this can only be achieved by the Celtic fan base accepting that “me first” will not achieve the cooperation needed to achieve change for the better.

I am disappointed at the random willy nilly approach to putting pressure on the Satellite broadcasters that some seem to have adopted by both the SPL and our own support, the latest it appears being Paul 67.

I am flummoxed as to why firstly the SPL and secondly Celtic have not made use of their knowledge of the numbers and their contacts to ensure a better deal for Scottish Football unless perhaps the numbers do not exist?

I am amazed that the thought has not occurred to those who have the information that a concerted coordinated approach directly to the Broadcasters at Chief Executive level would be worthwhile. In this regard cancellations should reflect all services provided not just Sports packages.

I believe that the only acceptable entry point for any Newco whatever their association with any other party is at the bottom of the league structure whatever that may be and that that implies the bottom of the re-jigged leagues. This is non -negotiable.

I will support Celtic whichever league they play in at whatever level. It is however incumbent on Celtic to gain ensure acceptance to a league.

Given an exit route I fully support Celtic giving notice to leave the existing league and / or not commit to any proposed change designed to minimise the impact on the former Rangers re-incarnation.

I believe it is essential for Celtic to publicly communicate with their fan base regarding these proposals.

There is no ” Old Firm” There should be no new one created.
