Gang of 10 changes will destroy Celtic

374

The BBC today report that the Gang of 10 SPL clubs have agreed a plan to re-write the rulebook of Scottish football in order to parachute Sevco into the second tier of the game.  They also report that Hibernian, Rod Petrie, briefed Charles Green of Sevco on their conditions to accept his company.  These conditions involve paying Rangers football debts and fines.

The plan involved the most almighty reorganisation of the league structure in order to gain enough support from lower league clubs to entice them to agree to place Sevco in the First Division.  They also want to take YOUR money in perpetuity to buy votes from lower league clubs, and have included a provision to allow them to vote for a share of home gates – all to establish a club called ‘Rangers’.

Crucially, the SFA, led by president Campbell Ogilvie and chief exec, Stewart Regan, have colluded in this scheme by not instructing the Appellate Panel to convene to consider Rangers punishment after the Court of Sessions told them to do so 30 days ago.  It is expected the Appellate Panel will suspend ‘Rangers’ from football for a year when it convenes.

The Gang of 10’s plan would require Rangers to withdraw their objection to the initial Appellate Panel ruling but it would also require the independent judicial overview of Scottish football to end before action is taken against the club for illegally registering players for over a decade, or for improper use of EBTs to scape social taxes, both of which are likely to expel the club.

Disciplinary rules cannot be changed because ‘Rangers’ are about to be punished.  Leagues cannot be restructured to allow a team bearing the name ‘Rangers’ an easy passage to the top.  This is no longer sport.

The utter stupidity of this scheme is staggering.  They are making plans with a man who owns a stadium but who cannot call on any supporters.  They are about to wreck Scottish football for a company who have yet to establish their financial viability.

Your money is being bargained away by every club in the SPL apart from Celtic.  Are you happy about this?  Will you continue to pay for Sky TV or ESPN?  Will you continue to buy tickets to attend away games?  Will you ever attend a League Cup or Scottish Cup game again?

Celtic paid their bills and conducted their business fairly and properly.  Be under no illusion, these changes will destroy the Celtic you recognise.  Forget your Champions League trips, you’ll be scraping the bottom of the barrel with ‘Sevco Rangers’ in a few years.  We cannot be exploited in this way.

It’s time the entire edifice of Scottish football was brought asunder, better that than be subject to random acts of destruction.  I cannot support any operation funding this enterprise so I’m cancelling Sky Sports and ESPN.

well paul 67 and james forrest have went from best days of our lifes to football stitch up.

having done the same a couple of times myself since this whole shambles started.

scottish football will be in the gutter for years if RCO ,regan and doncaster are allowed to remain in posistion at the sfa and spl.

thank god celtic are in good financial health and will manage to ride out the storm.

the choice of sporting intergrity will no doubt put a few spl teams to the wall in the next 12 months

and most of the others that follow the Ra gers to oblivion will deserve their fate.

take it the espn banner on cqn will be going too ?

also hope celtic keep silent till all the moves have been made and play the winning hand

  2. It will not take much to get a Sevco XI on the pitch at ibroke, McColl and Park have serious money which can be quickly injected, with the SFA moved to sitting through the night to process club and player registrations.

Do not wait for Celtic to speak, we have laughed at the failure of Rankers fans to act in unity, time for us now to speak and quickly and in unity

Sky was cancelled a long time ago, ESPN to be canceled today, my SFA/Away ground boycott will continue

I dont care what you think.

Its just my job to slap you about and make you look like a fool and from the correspondence I am getting. Many are enjoying it. Even those you think you have befriended.

  4. Said some pro IRA stuff apparently.

Gary Deegan has been suspended by Coventry for two weeks while the club investigate alleged comments made by the midfielder on Twitter.

The 24-year-old Irishman, signed from Bohemians in January 2010, is reported to have made controversial comments on the social networking site.

A club statement on Coventry’s official website read: “Coventry City confirm that Gary Deegan has been suspended from training for a period of two weeks while further investigations take place into comments on Twitter social networking site.

“Neither the player nor the club will be making any further statement whilst internal investigations are ongoing.”

If this proposal has legs it is time for UEFA and FIFA to act.

It is time for Celtic Football Club to flex its muscle.

The SFA can not give this newclub a licence.

If FIFA and UEFA do not call the SFA to account then Celtic must take the SPL and the SFA to Court as well.

This is snidey side room dealing.

  6. Mic1888, dessybhoy, I believe it was correct for Celtic not to speak publicly on the Ranges issue. This is different. I am sure they will speak to this (although remember, we only have the initial BBC report, so not sure what is going on behind the scenes). Most importantly, they need to know they act with our support for their actions.

This is a critical time, Celtic must take no options off the table.

    ASonOfDan, indeed.

philvisreturns, yes, Rangers is gone and this is a pointless endeavour but, we will be destroyed if we don’t act wisely now.

Awe Naw, I’m sure there are quicker ways to act.

Moonbeams, I am very sure Celtic are going ballistic at this. No options off the table.

    obonfanti1888, let’s hope so.

Patrick27, I think we are finished with Scottish football. If it’s not a sport, why are we here?

Son of Gabriel, ironically, if Scottish football does actually crumble we have a better chance of structural change than if it limps along.

    Folly Folly, indeed.

You’re such a drama queen James.

    Rangers are ruined. Gone. Finito.

Even if they succeed in gerrymandering the league structure to accommodate some cheap and nasty Rangers tribute act, the fact remains that Rangers FC died in disgrace in 2012. (thumbsup)

I wonder how many supporters have bought/renewed season tickets on the back of seeing their respective club chairman do the right thing by saying no to Newco in the SPL ?

Duped (that old favourite) doesnt come close if these proposals were drawn up in haste after the sudden attacks of an apparent conscience were displayed last week.

Christ the people that run the game aren’t even hiding their allegiance now.

Bhoys listen to the Scottish news on B.B.C.1 at 1.20 they are going to tell .us a deal has been done and Charles Green has been kept in the picture. You are seeing a conspiracy to help newco being born right before your eyes.I think Paul67 is like the rest of us and does not know what to do about it? I think we have to take individual action cancel sky let the World know how you feel about the powers that be circumvating the rules to support newco .The shakey hand mob are behind the moves and Celtic and we the supporters are being shafted.H.H.

  10. Apparently the vote for newco to be voted in to Div 1 has to be 22 clubs out of 30 have to say yes, but so far at least 5 have said they will vote NO. (Morton, Raith, Falkirk, Hamilton and Dundee. That means they just need 4 more nays and they are doomed. Club chairmen in the lower leagues are getting lots of feedback from their fans stating they`ll withdraw support if the cheats are allowed preferential treatment.

Think of my nuclear analogy from the other day. This one will scorch the Earth itself. Nothing will be left standing. The level of cynicism and contempt for the fans and for the rules on which the game is based which is contained in those proposals is truly breath-taking.

This is disturbing, until I read your piece (twice ) I was reasonably pleased, although surprised, that there had been this groundswell of anti RFC feeling.

This conclusion was reached on the basis of being verbally abused at almost all away ground for over 4 decades ,therefore clearly the No vote has carried with it some advantage to the clubs but to Celtic’s detriment.

Initially I was not pleased that Celtic had not voiced an opinion, however that turned out to be the correct strategy to avoid deflection,I now believe we should be stating our objection to what is manipulation of the rules, and if possible from a contractual point of view, also serve notice regarding TV accessibility.

I think the veiled threat re away games can come later as our fight right now is with the SFA/SPL/SFA and their mis-use of the written rules..

  14. philvisreturns,

no need for any great reconstrution sevco would just take either Dundee or Dunfermline fixtures with the othe one moving to the SPL,

    utter disgrace in my opinion,

time for a statement from Celtic telling fans what they know of this and if they are involved in any way,if not what action they are taking

  15. The Honest Cover-up on

Feared that supporters of the Gang of Ten were being a little hasty in queueing up for season tickets earlier in the week. My feeling was that it is best to see how the pans out right till the last minute.

SFL fans must make their feeling clear just like the SPL fans. Remember, they will be as appaled at the thought of this stitch up as we are. Threats to cancel season tickets must be made.

The idea of a new club being parachuted into the First Division is almost MORE absurd than them coming straight into SPL.

People are right to be worried about this but remember it’s just the latest in a long line of stitch ups which have failed to date. I have faith the footballing public will stand up to this.

Chaimen must publicly demand the right to vote for these reforms without a “Newco”.

  16. The Honest Mistake loves being first on

rangers you’ve cheated since you were formed, you stole, you lied, you bullied, you corrupted, you laughed. You were caught.

Well here you go here is all of our money so that you can get yourself back on your feet and make yourself stronger than us.

paul67, this will finish Scottish football. How do we save Celtic in the meantime?

  17. Paul

Very true, I said the same on the last thread! Do you know if there’s a remote possibility of a move to England in the future, even if its just in the Conference?

    HH

  18. Snake Plissken on

This is the crucial thing. Sevco need the SFL clubs to say yes in high numbers and adding 3 teams to a play-off between Div 1 and SPL is not enough of a sweetner to allow it to pass.

What about the fans of sides in Div 2 and 3? Will they go to watch their clubs if this deal is being pushed through with no benefit to any of them?

The carve up is monstrous but it can be stopped dead very shortly.

  19. Awe_Nae,

    This line from Petrie’s statement…….

“It’s important that all clubs can have a place within football, provided they have earned it in a sporting sense and also have abided by the rules.”

How can he sanction Sevco 5088 going straight into SPL2 or whatever it’s going to be called after saying that??

  20. with all due respect paul67, none of this would be the case if celtic dont want it.

    bobbyrussell:

Read the small print. There will be NO vote on Rangers admission to the SPL. Therefore the SFL clubs will NOT get to vote on where they start. Both sets of proposals have been ditched. Rangers “relegation” has been folded into the larger package of reforms. The clubs will NOT get to vote on the status of Rangers now except as part of the larger set of changes.

  22. Paul67 et al

I have stated all along that, after the deluge, Celtic needed to have some kind of alternative vision for Scottish football. Problem is, that from where I am standing, we do not. Peter Lawwell believes in a 10 team, play the Accies four times a season type SPL, a clear example of mid 1970s thinking. Replicated in 1998, with disastrous results. And I am not talking about a 2-1 defeat to Motherwell. If, and I do say if, this proposal is put before the SPL members then we should submit a proposal to disband the SPL. Are the SPL of 10 really that desperate to have the howling hordes back in their ground. And more important, are we?

  23. On last nights embarrassing protest and rally at Ibrokes.

Time to starve the wee clubs. If they go to the wall, they got to the wall.

  25. Eddie Pearson of the Celtic Underground intimated on his last podcast 181 that he met someone from high up within Celtic in a Bar and it was said to him by this person that Celtic will not be playing in Scottish football in 2 years time?

Did anyone else listen to it?

  26. James Forrest is Neil Lennon! We are ALL Neil Lennon! on

    Snake Plissken:

The proposals say a straightforward majority of SFL clubs is enough, as well as 8 votes from clubs in the SPL.

This makes a mockery of every rule there is. But that appears not to matter.

  27. The Ghood will prevail on

They would have to drive a lorry through their own rules to acheive this… for example:

    Club licensing – newhun can’t be anywhere near ready;

    As for appelate tribunal – Paul, how can the SFA just choose to ignore something that was voted on by its member clubs? Surely the blazers don’t have that power. They simply represent the will of the clubs. Surely another vote would be required to abolish this?;

    Also, what about the SFL articles – am I not right in saying that major changes can only come into effect some time down the road?;

Also, what’s in it for the Division 2&3 clubs? – they will miss out on revenue garnered by newhum playing in their leagues. Why would they vote for this? And is not a two-thirds majority required? Even in Division One, already Raith, Falkirk, Hamilton and Morton have stated their opposition; Livingston would also likely be a ‘no’ due to their previous relegation to Div 3, and even Dunfermline said no to newco in SPL and would look foolish saying yes to div one.

To sum up, this heist would require so much discarding of associaiton rules and standards that surely Uefa would disapprove, or surely Celtic, Livingston or anyone else would have a cast-iron case to take legal action?

Petrie needs a few microphones and cameras put in his face. I would imagine that Alex Thomson will be there next week some time.

He is being made to look an absolute fool or a man who can simply not be trusted.

He needs to address this issue for the sake of his own credibility.

Pat Fenlon was begging on his knees yesterday for the Hibees to start buying season tickets.

Anything that is printed in the Palptalk Loyal and does not have a name attached to it ESPECIALLY BBC Scotland can be immediately dismissed as …….yup you guessed it palptalk.

    Hail Hail

  29. Are the spl clubs, dungcaster and reagan thick?

The spl clubs will now kill themselves. If losing the hun fans was so bad financially, how the hell are the going to cope losing Celtic fans money too, as I’d be amazed if a 100% away, Scottish cup and league cup boycott did not come to bear if this goes through.

They can’t touch out season ticket money, that’s a court case right there trying that one.

    Idiots the lot of them.

  30. If this league reconstruction was done months ago when it was supposed to be then football fans wouldn’t be up in arms today.

The reason they held it back was because they must have had an idea the huns were gonnae be liquidated, it stinks.

Then… Regan, Ogilvie, Doncaster and the rest who concocted this rubbish will have a choice; leave, or you’ll be voted out. And not by any Board, but fans, right across Scotland. I’m keeping the faith on this.
