Getting it right at the back against Fenerbahce

471

Jozo Simunovic has had an unusual first month as a Celtic player. His solitary appearance came in the Amsterdam ArenA two weeks ago, injury has kept him side-lined since, but there’s a good chance he’ll face Fenerbahce in two days’ time. It takes a lot for a 21-year-old to make his club, then home, debut in these circumstances.

Getting it right in defence on Thursday will be the most important area of the field for Celtic. The responsibility to attack normally lies with the home team in Europe but Fenerbahce will attack for all they’re worth at Celtic Park. A home defeat to Molde means that even a draw away to Celtic would put the Turks in a good position. They need a win and will have watched some of our defending this season.

Ronny played it perfectly against Ajax and I’d be tempted to do the same again. We can score against anyone at Celtic Park. Defend properly and we’ll do well.

Thanks to everyone who donated to the Foundation since our Great Scottish Run appeal went out yesterday. The Foundation are currently working with the British Red Cross, Refugee Crisis Appeal, assisting people fleeing war and persecution in the Middle East and Europe. Money raised from this month’s Jock Stein Anniversary game went to this cause, and, in line with many other clubs, €1 from every ticket sold will go to assisting refugees. There’s a lot more to come on this subject.

The work goes on in other areas, of course, as the Foundation works with those who fall through the cracks in society, and sponsors projects with the sick, or families who need assistance. There are a number of us participating in the Great Scottish Run for the Foundation, you can contribute on any of the pages below:

If you are running for the Foundation and would like a shout for your donations page, email me, celticquicknews@gmail.com

And it’s not too late to sign up, get the trainers out, and run it yourself!

Thanks for your support.

When I pop into the pub in Kilwinning,my mates and I are at risk of being huckled just for saying hello. In our usual distinctive manner,of course(!)

Don’t worry about 10/10,mate. You’ve got lots to do. If you get time, let me know time and place and I’ll do my damnedest to be there.

we talk about apathy in the Celtic attending support.

Good morning fella – Hail Hail

Yeah, the ole Celtic are like a bottle of diluted fizzy drink.

The downsizing, especially since the huns went oot the league has, chased fans oot the stands and sooked what lingering atmosphere – the Magnificent Green Brigade apart – oot of the stadium….imho.

Ye see….Celtic fans in the main, believe themselves to be different from the huns but, when you chisel away at the whole Celtic-gig….you soon realise that, because of the boards reluctance to cut the link with the huns with their ‘back-of-the-bus’ approach to do anything other than….what their best at…kowtow to the hun establishment….the clock is ticking for the return of what should have been…the evil-club who were suspended from the game of football at all levels whilst under investigation, well….I’m afraid that….Rangers FC have ‘hid’ in the lower divisions of Scottish football to ‘avoid’ having to pay back, any of the £140 million of tax-payers money that they stole to emulate Mr Stein’s achievements, some say they died?…..in truth, they probably did die but….what will swing their new gig in their favour is….the compliant-unquestioning-silence of their O## F### rivals board of directors who are still remaining in stewardship of Celtic FC because….Celtic supporters have been bought and sold by the ‘convenient-plants’ on the Celtic cyberspace…drip-feeding fans, at convenient junctures….stories about the news huns about to go bust?….if our game dizny go our way on Thursday….watch for some ‘convenient’ stories being drip-fed by the usual suspects….so that yeez will all look the other way whilst….amounts of cash will ‘mysteriously’ appear to pull the huns out of yet another coffin….aye!

    Take Care Tims….off oot. YNWA.

Aye. She’s disgusted – in advance – cos a member of the Green Brigade left a skid mark on a lavvy at Tynecastle during the forthcoming league cup semi final.

Sorry mate, you’re going to have to wait for that semi a bit longer.

    Quarter Final v Jambos first.

  12. Excitement building nicely for the Big Game in Scotland…………..

Ronny has decisions to make and this team have another chance to show they can surprise us with both performance and result.

    Hope springs eternal!

Sleekits up early, at it an’ seizing on the negatives already – hard shift coming up for all Celtic supporters here.

    If so,good man.

  15. Happy Birthday Jinky!!

I was too wee to have the pleasure of seeing him play…..well…..not old enough to remember.

There were a few performances that i am aware of that were singled out as being outstanding performances from him…..1st leg v Red Star and Di Stefanos testimonial.

Were there any other games that anyone would say were particularly brilliant performances from Jinky?

  16. Bobby

Just saw ur tip of iceberg comment..

There is some annoying posters and some who I wouldn’t give 5mins of my time to outside of a forum but I usually know when to scroll past to the good stuff.

There is still plenty of good stuff on here, debates and football chat so hopefully the likes of Livibhoy etc come back and learn to ignore the trolls and keep the blog alive.

I’d be lost without it cause of where I live.

    Up the good guys

  19. Going to take my Mum to B&Q before i start work so i will try to find some footage of any suggested games later when i get back…..

  20. Saintstivs might agree with you but for different reasons. I love it here but it is a sanitised place and very PC.

Some of the best debates came from non conformers like Kojo and Edward Ursus both hounded mercilessly by the PC brigade. Hardly any wonder that the debates are muted, really only mags and KevJ throwing the odd grenade and occasionally canamalar losing the plot Macjay and Kitalba banging the drums , you know I enjoy it all so don’t stop. My point is this place can be intolerant of differing views specially if they are not the perfect timview. So if you want debate encourage all points of views even those you abhor, we all have summit to learn.

Hope the fenerbache invading Turks go back home licking there wounded prides and we top the Europa league after tomorrow. Where’s the goals coming from ? Hail hail.
