Gilmour, black and white and blue all over

662

St Mirren chairman, Stewart Gilmour, last week suggested the SPL’s 11-1 protected voting rule, which in the past enabled Celtic and Rangers to block changes against their interests, was a reason for him to oppose Scottish football’s league reorganisation plan.

Today, with Rangers consigned to history, Celtic chief executive, Peter Lawwell, proposed a change in voting rules, replacing the requirement to have an 11-1 majority with a 9-3 majority, which Aberdeen chairman, Stuart Milne, called a “major concession”.

This was not linked to the league reorganisation vote, but Stewart Gilmour voted against this change, despite using this voting rule as an excuse for his reluctance to allow reorganisation.  So we now know St Mirren’s objection is nothing to do with voting rules, the brought Aberdeen’s Milne to say on his way out of Hampden, “You need to ask what [St Mirren’s] agenda is”.

After the SFL’s chef exec, David Longmuir, came under pressure from First Division clubs for opposing reorganisation plans, Newco Rangers’ chief executive, Charles Green, was a guest of Gilmour’s at St Mirren’s recent game against Celtic.  Green has been a vocal opponent of the league reconstruction proposals and right on cue, Newco released a statement offering support to Gilmour and Ross County, the other objectors.

For those who like their irony straight from the mouths of the stupid, Newco even suggested St Mirren and Ross County “should not be singled out for criticism. They stood up for what they and their fans believe”.  Just like all those clubs who were criticised bitterly by Newco for voting as their fans wanted a year ago.

Milne added, “St Mirren FC have really got to pose themselves the question qhy are they prepared to put Scottish football in jeopardy for their own selfish interests, which they have been unable to do today.”

Some people have a belief that there will now be an invitation-only SPL II with Newco being invited.  I can tell you with absolute certainty this will not happen.  There will be no Newco in the second tier of Scottish football next season.

Instead what has happened is attitudes have hardened against such moves.  It would not be at all surprising if 10 SPL clubs declined tickets for their visits to St Mirren Park next season – the anger is that serious.  The status quo will be maintained, St Mirren have lost enormous goodwill above and below them, First Division clubs have failed to secure a significant boost in income and the SPL will get on with business.

All of which brings us back to Stuart Milne’s question, what is St Mirren’s real agenda?  I know fine well what it is, but they have not damaged Celtic, they have not assisted Newco in any way and the poor St Mirren fans will inherit the collateral damage.

  1. Anyone listen to Scotland tonight last night ?

Did you hear John McKay with the blue tie pleading with Henry McLeish to take over reconstruction plans hmmm I wonder why, no scrap that I know why, he knows and the MSM know that the SPL chairmen are in control now and Sevco’s plans are up in the air.

    Corrupt scum in this country.

    The fat landlord just posted this of FF;

    http://www.thetimes.co.uk/tto/sport/…cle3740255.ece

A new document emerged last night suggesting that Craig Whyte, the controversial former owner of Rangers, was a director of the company used to facilitate the £5.5 million takeover of the club last year.

Mr Whyte’s previous appointments filed at Companies House, and seen by The Times, state that he was appointed as a director of Sevco 5088 on May 9, just days after Rangers’ current chief executive, Charles Green, became the sole director. The paperwork also suggests that, because Mr Green, 59, would have been the only person authorised to make appointments or terminations, nobody else was in the position to ratify the appointment of Mr Whyte, the former owner.

At the weekend, documents were published that appeared to show Mr Green’s signature verifying the roles of Mr Whyte and his associate Aidan Earley as directors of Sevco 5088. Mr Green branded the notion that he had appointed Mr Whyte as a “blatant” smear.

Those papers, relating to the appointment of directors, were belatedly submitted to Companies House just over a week ago, almost a year after they alleged to have been signed. They will be published on the agency’s website later this week.

Although director appointments filed to the Registrar of Companies must be signed off by “a director, secretary” or a “person authorised under either section 270 or 274 of the Companies Act 2006”, documents are not routinely scrutinised.

A spokesman for Companies House said: “As all documents are presented to [us] are accepted in good faith, we do check to ensure the box is completed, however we do not check who has signed the form and if that person has the necessary authority.”

A Rangers source said that the documents recently submitted “raise concerns about their legitimacy [and] smack of desperation from Whyte”.

One insider claimed: “The document was not filed by Charles Green, there’s no question of that. Anyone following the logical sequence of events would arrive at the conclusion that Craig Whyte could not have been a director of a company acquiring Rangers.”

At the weekend Mr Green was subjected to an inquisition at a three-hour board meeting at Ibrox after the Scottish Football Association wrote to him asking for clarification over his business dealings with Mr Whyte. Following the meeting the club launched its own inquiry “in view of allegations” relating to Mr Green and Imran Ahmad, the club’s commercial director.

A Rangers spokesman said that the report would be commissioned and finished “as speedily as possible” in order “to clarify the situation to the satisfaction of shareholders, supporters and Board members”. Mr Green was told that he had brought the game into disrepute after referring to Mr Ahmad as “my Paki friend” in an interview.

At the time the non-executive director, Walter Smith, said: “Charles is new here. Sometimes, if you are not Scottish, it can take you a while to understand the

But Mr Whyte claims to have evidence that proves he still owns Rangers and paid £137,500 to Mr Ahmad through an intermediary, to hide his role in the takeover of the club.

A spokesman for Mr Whyte said in a text message that the notion that he was appointed as a director of Sevco 5088 last year by Mr Green was “100% true”.

  3. Guys long time lurker/supporter of CQN first time poster of such, Scottish football IMHO seriously need a strong Celtic and Newco!! The product on offer is shocking ,sure hand out the nessesary punishment to newco but talk off wishing them out the game??? I’d give most on here a season or two and we would all be bored stiff, and the attendancies wouldn’t reach 30000 IMO, we could also forget memorable euro nights against your Barcelona’s etc as we simply wouldn’t have the quality on the pitch to compete!! Lets be honest ,who here would blame a Hooper, Wanyama or a Ledley whom have no emotional ties to Celtic leaving due to the lack of competion/huns?

  4. el maestro

Who’s going to punish them?? No chance of Abereen or Dundee Utd or any of the other teams who are developing young players wanting to be part of the rebirth of a strong honest Scottish game??

Not even a season without the cheats and already people are condemning our game to the gutter, aye alright then let’s have them back they seemed to have learned their lesson and are changing for the better!! They have a cracking new owner who seems to have good ideas to take the game forward, no surrender I think it was he said.

That’s what we need a strong Newco so that we as Celts can feel proud tpo play in the same league as them..

Not for this Tim, I hope they go bust by Friday…

Why would we need a strong newco??

Are the continuioty co’s around us not good enough?

Why would a newco be punished? Surely they’re not up to something also…..ahem!

I fear your “long time lurker” comment could be replied to with “not long enough”.

Did the huns die, when we were not competing?

Did we die when they were not competing?

In my opinion, a strong league is required, with proper leaders in place, not some uppity Newco / tribute act.

Sorry to tell you mucker, but …shhhhh…. they died.

  8. el maestro are you the Celtic supporter (alleged) who is a regular contributor to Clyde radios SOS (Save Our Sevco) campaign? You really are a rarest of commodities – a Celtic supporter who doesn’t wish to see the Zombie FC gone forever.

Attendences are falling for many reasons the Dead club not being in the SPL is not one of them. I doubt Celtic would find it difficult to continue attract young exciting prospects to paradise. Judging by how it has raised the profiles of Vic, FF and Hoops in Europe and the EPL i think there will be a long line of agents knocking on PL / NFL doors

  9. I reckon Phil’s Wednesday ‘dead’line could come early if Angela Heggarty’s tweet is anything to go by.

  12. el maestro, very few footballers have emotional ties to football teams these days and most of them have emotional ties to one thing only, it’s called MONEY. I noticed how the emotional ties over ole Ibrokes way kicked in for McGregor, Naismith, Whittaker, et al when the huns were liquidated. BTW there was no competition before the huns went pop they single-handedly made sure of that with their suicidal financial strategy which is primarily responsible for the state of Scottish football today. Their reckless spending meant that every other team had to do the same to compete. So if that’s what you mean by competition mate, you can ram it!

  14. Morning all,

Clearly Stewart Gilmour has been bought and paid for by Charles Green.

The ridiculous farce that was Green turning up wearing a St Mirren club tie at our game followed by the proclamations from Green that they would support St Mirren and Ross County by guaranteeing x number of tickets per game or whatever it was was designed to kill the change for the benefit of the Huns. SPL2 by invitation was most likely the agreed strategy.

Unfortunately for the Huns and now St Mirren this will not happen, it will be an “Over my dead body” scenario for many Chairmen and St Mirren will be boycotted by all reasonable supporters.

I hope St Mirren believe that they can live on their home gates without away supporters attending because if not they will go bust. To think that we formed a guard of honour just a couple of weeks ago for them. Their manager a good guy, their Chairman a Hun sympathiser.

Now is the opportunity for Celtic to take a positive lead and turn Scottish football around.

Sevco don’t come into it. They are a busted flush limping from mediocrity to oblivion.

The future of football in this country should not involve them in any way, except as minor bit players in what ever incarnation they survive.

We are the only show in town and after yesterday I believe that most of the non sevco fellow traveller and sympathiser clubs will follow our lead.

It’s quite possible that the snake oil salesman’s cunning plan has blown up in his face and set the rest of the clubs in this country against him.

    Seize the day!

  16. Paranoia! I can assure you i aint no hun, Look at the big picture, I will say it again, punish them AYE!! but no Sevco/huns/Zombies Gies piece!! Keep an eye on season ticket sales in the summer!! Sad but true, Dont get me wrong in a ideal world we would leave them behind and join England( pie in the sky) or Euro League( more of a possibility) but while we are still here we need to make this situation as best as possible for CFC and our fans!! Len and tommybhoy, ill be sure to introduce myself at the CQN open in arberdour if you’s are in attendance!!

  17. Chairbhoy 07:51.

Apologies if I have misread or misunderstood your post earlier. However the concession on voting offered by Celtic was only for league reconstruction votes. There are a number of ringfenced topics for which 11-1 must be achieved and others for which 9-3 has to be achieved. The offer was to remove league reconstruction votes from the former to the latter group. That’s my understanding of what was offered.

What is not is dispute is that only last week Stuart Gilmour claimed that his main objection was the retention of 11-1 for league reconstruction. Having had the opportunity to have this issue removed, he still declined to accept the new format, and in the words of Stuart Milne, did not provide any reason for his position.

On the subject of Stuart Milne, did anyone else pick up on a strange change in the use of grammer yesterday.

When initial reports of SM comments was released it was printed as (paraphrase) ” we have let Scottish football down, and one person in particular.” It’s up to St Mirren to explain what there agenda is…….

Later reports changed that to “we have let Scottish football down. One person in particular, it’s up to St Mirren to…..”

On hearing the actual words it’s hard to tell which is his intention, however when I first read his comments I thought it was a clear indication that PL had made significant financial and voting concessions in the interests of the game, and it was him who had been let down personally.

You want us to have competition from a team that canny beat Stirling Albion, aye alright then Maestro..

Any team that needs the huns to feel real needs to look at his thinking, they’re done, deid, finished and they will never return to the top table spending their own money, it’s not in their nature, of course if you are a Tim that needs the bigotry of the spectacle of the “old firm” then good luck with that…

Look at the big picture, you been listening to DL again? That’s his favourite saying…

  19. Slightly against the grain here, and the mood of the blog. However I am very concerend about the assumption that CW is correct when he says he is a director of Sevco 5088. The late submission of documents, the fact that they are not rigourously checked, and he is a liar of the lowest order, leav me less than convinced.

Please don’t get me wrong, if this is proived to be the case and their whole house of cards comes timbling down around their ears I’ll be delighted, but these “documents,” in my opinion are a false lead.

  20. Green Lantern (((((0))))) on

Paranoia lives in Sevconia. The old hun jibe at us Tims was inaccurate and now redundant given their belief that everone hates THEM.

Anyone coming on here and using the insult in reference to Celtic damns himself with his own words.

    We don’t want the sevvies.

    We don’t need the sevvies.

As time goes on, I firmly believe that most of the rest of Scottish football will come to feel the same.

In any case the point is probably moot since it seems likely that the zombies will cease to exist in any meaninful way in the future.

  21. El Maestro Scottish football needs a strong Sevconians ……well before Oldco started spending other people’s money with no intention of paying it back…….the weren’t very strong……so I can only assume you want Sevco to be allowed to flaunt financial regulations footballing rules and even rhe law of the land …….all for the good of football. ……..aye right

  22. Surely any boredom on the part of Celtic fans due to the absence of der hun is more than offset by the excitement and enjoyment of watching the pantomime that unfolds on a daily basis in every aspect of the saga down Govan way?
