Overall I was pleased with many aspects of Celtic’s play yesterday. We dominated large parts of the game and got in and around the Hearts penalty area often enough to score the proverbial barrel load.
Hearts scored a good goal. The flick from Beattie and run from Skacel were both exquisite, although a deflection off the blameless Kelvin Wilson was crucial. Enough has been said about the second Hearts goal already. Defensively we were good.
Midfield also played well, to a point, forcing Hearts into retreat for all but the opening 20 minutes of the second half. Ki Sung-Yueng should have scored twice but he’s never been a player for back post headers and I was more surprised he found himself in that position than he missed both opportunities. He is a player who continues to impress.
The question we should turn our attention to is why Celtic didn’t score more goals?
It is probably not an exaggeration to suggest Emilio Izaguirre is the best left back at the club in 30 years. Skilful and intelligent in possession, Celtic look composed when he is on the field, but he’s being kept out of the team by a free transfer from Aberdeen because Charlie Mulgrew is manufacturing the most crucial item in the game – goals.
I’m close to advocating ‘Give the ball to Charlie’ tactics. He has the ability to fire in remarkably dangerous crosses and has an instinctive awareness that the purpose of the game is to score goals. Kris Commons shares this awareness but Kris has had a wretched season and is still rescuing his game from injury and early season loss of form.
In these circumstances, Neil Lennon cannot afford to play Izaguirre if it involves dropping Mulgew as this would severely hamper Celtic’s ability to put the ball in the net. If the manager wants to use Emilio, particularly in Europe next season when retaining possession will be crucial, Charlie has to play left midfield.
Scoring goals is the primary responsibility of the strikers. None of Celtic’s current crop are impressing at the moment, but we need to look further upstream first.
We have an outstanding original canvass painting of Neil Lennon available for purchase on eBay to kick start our summer charity fundraising. This year the beneficiaries will be Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research, Martin Chambers Foundation and The Neuroblastoma Alliance, Aberdour PS PTA, The Haven, Blantyre. The painting, by US based artist, Joseph Gormley, is an outstanding memento of our manager during these times.

All SPL clubs are members of that league and aigned up to its rules. Those rules include a two year notice period for anyone wanting to leave.
So what happens if the SFA sets up its own league and invites SPL clubs to join it?
This could all get very messy.

Nothing groundbreaking but informative in how they have treated their loyal creditors by shafting them. Their is especially high comedy in one of the tales – the sort you go, no, that can’t be right?

THE Blue Knights group have pulled
out of bidding for Rangers,
administrators Duff and Phelps said
tonight.
The group was led by former Ibrox
director Paul Murray and was
responsible for one of three bids
lodged to take charge of the club.
David Whitehouse, joint
administrator, said: “It is
disappointing the Blue Knights are
withdrawing at this stage,
particularly in the view of the fact
that last week it was made clear to
them and Ticketus that their
indicative bid placed them in a strong
position.
“We were therefore surprised that
their offer to pay an exclusivity fee
was withdrawn and although
discussions over the exclusivity fee
continued over the weekend, no
agreement was reached.
“At all stages of the process, The Blue
Knights/Ticketus bid has been given
the most serious consideration by us
as administrators, particularly due to
the fact that it was being encouraged
by supporters’ groups.
“We are aware that Ticketus has also
been, at their own instigation, in
parallel discussion with one of the
other bidders over the last few weeks
and it remains to be seen whether
these discussions will be taken
forward.
“We can reassure supporters of the
Club that we look forward to making
an announcement on a preferred
bidder later this week, assuming no
further hurdles are placed in our
path.
“While we as administrators have a
statutory duty to look after the
interests of creditors and keep the
business going, it is of paramount
importance that the bid which is
taken forward is the best on offer for
Rangers Football Club.”
A statement from the Blue Knights
read: “On the evening of Thursday 12
April The Blue Knights Consortium
(“the consortium”) was asked by Duff
& Phelps to reconfirm its “best and
final” offer of 4 April. We
reconfirmed our position and we
believed that we would be awarded
preferred bidder status on Friday
morning.
“As part of the process of awarding
exclusivity Duff & Phelps had
requested a non-refundable deposit.
During the course of Friday Ticketus
informed us that they were not
prepared to provide this deposit.
“During the course of the weekend
individuals within the consortium
offered to put up the deposit subject
to a small number of conditions
which were broadly agreed with Duff
& Phelps.
“During the course of the weekend we
were also made aware that Ticketus
had been in discussions with the
Singaporean consortium who, on
Friday, had offered Ticketus a
“substantially” better deal to the one
offered by us. We confirmed that we
were not prepared to increase our
offer to Ticketus which we believe to
be in the Club’s best interests.
“The consortium believes that the
whole deal process has become
incredibly complex and it is critical
that a preferred bidder is appointed
this week.
“As a consequence, and in the best
interests of the Club, the consortium
has decided to take a step back to
enable Duff & Phelps, Ticketus and
the Singaporeans to conclude a deal
as quickly as possible or not.
“We stand ready to complete our offer
of 4 April which included a deal in
principle with Ticketus. We still
believe that a partnership with
Ticketus represents the best
opportunity of the Club exiting
administration via a CVA.
“We firmly believe that, in the best
interests of the Club, the whole
process has to move forward as a
matter of urgency. We are stepping
back to assist with this but we stand
ready to re-enter the process if a deal
can not be reached.”

TBB and I have batted League Reconstruction comments about for 12-18 months – why were the SPL constantly deferring a decision?
All the talk about them ending up in SFL3 after the end-game is a ‘red herring’ – reconstruction will be about how quickly they can be managed back into the SPL1.
Worst case scenario – take your pick? 12 + 2 x 14 or 3 x 14 (newco + 2 others to appease the dissenters). Punishment = 2 years max in wilderness.

do you know it sickens me-the focus on the manager-considering whats going down-
every dirty trick in the book is getting used by them all-eg the defence of campbell ogilvy as a good guy-he obviously isnt-he wont stand down and apart- from an investigation that is probably in part, about him- that reeks of arrogance and a fear that -if judged properly-hes guilty of something-i bet there has been much shredding going on-im waiting to here about missing documents-shredded-im expecting a whitewash-a sanitised outcome-im envisioning blue fans grinning at me-explaining to me how it IS-we have talked about the so called gorilla in the room
-but personally-i-in fear-want to mention the invisible giant octopus-we all know its there-you are never far from its tentacles-but everybodies too scared to talk about it
eg i think 2 out of 3 every night on clyde are cephalopods-plus its well known that ink is controlled by them too-i rest my case and plead sanity
Snake:
It seems to me, as Auldheid has already pointed out, that the Cheats Charter IS dead.
I can put it in plain speak for anyone who finds this hugely complex. Actually, the matter is fairly simple.
The SFA have their own “licensing criteria” as laid down by UEFA, for granting licenses to play domestic football.
In order to play in the SPL a club must have a European license AND an SFA license, and these are non-transferable between legal entities. In other words, a NewCo would be ineligible as Rangers license cannot be simply handed over the title deeds to a house. The European licensing requirement to play in the SPL is explicit, because if an SFL club qualifies for Europe they have to be given a “special provision” by the SFA, who then need UEFA approval.
The Cheat’s Charter is DEAD. That is a fact. The SFA’s talk tonight about a new league structure is EXACTLY what I told Stephen Black it was; the SFA reminding the SPL that everyone has to answer to the bosses in Nyon, and that any attempt to supercede SFA rules would meet with the SFA issuing an “invite” to all their member clubs to join a brand new league.
Gentlemen, we have been debating where Celtic would go if the SPL voted for this grubby little back-door deal. We now have our answer.
We would go nowhere. We would be the first club to endorse the SFA national league … and thus the SPL is dead, thank you, good night …. and so is the prospect of NewCo Rangers walking straight in.
We now know this, almost beyond doubt.
If Rangers is liquidated the NewCo will not be in the SPL.
Keevins & Co are suffering from succulent lamb defficiency

While I dont believe him to be godlike nor do I delude myself for a second that he’s doing this for our benefit the simple application of intelligence , journalistic professionalism and a willingness to call it as it is says huge amounts about him as a journalist.
That it says even more about the MSM appears lost on them. I’d love to know what his private thoughts on them are.( That’s a rhetorical question btw!)
