Good Friday is just another Friday for you

1828

Sometimes it seems there is a constant struggle underway for the heart and soul of Celtic.  It is incredible that for 125 years a community has managed to retain the conviction to help the less fortunate which drove forward those who formed the club.

Scarcely a day goes by without me receiving a message from someone offering to help those in need.  This week it was tables for the Wayside Club Gala Dinner (Saturday 27 April, check it out here), someone send in a box set of the Byrds, to raise money ‘for the homeless’, and a reader parted with a precious top signed by the Seville team, which I’ve to collect in Glasgow.

Much of this goes on below radar but when a call to arms is needed it goes out in impressive clarity; the Wee Oscar campaign slipped into an infrastructure established when Kano took ill a few years back (hope you are doing well, Kano and we hear from you soon).  Believe me, some of the work, and many of the discrete donations, would blow you away.

None of this is random.  At some point each and every person who has stepped forward did so, knowingly or not, because of the way the Celtic Movement infected them.

A number of Celtic fans, and one former treble winning captain, are helping the Celtic Charity this year with the objective of encouraging each Celtic fan to raise £125.  It feels like the right thing to do and if you’ve not brought yourself up to speed with the project yet, do it this weekend (more information here).

There will be formal events throughout the year but if you want to do a sponsored run/walk/cycle/jig, this is your invitation.  You are reading this stuff because of your link all the way back to that hall in the Calton; get involved and earn your place in that 125-year-old story.

The next major event is a mass huddle at the top of Ben Nevis, check it out here.

Enjoy your Easter holiday – but not before you get involved………

  1. Love this by big Chris:

David Tanner (Sky Sports): “Chris, just what is it that has made Celtic champions this year?”

Chris Sutton: “We got more points than anyone else.”

  2. Cheers guys, remember the two yellow cards he received were fouls commited against him.

  8. Don’t know if Rangers have produced audited accounts yet but if they don’t by Monday does that mean they can’t play in europe for another year (on top of the 3 that are mandatory) or do they not need to produce audited accounts until they are in existence for 3 years ?

You will probably find that although there may be a rule in place, re the SFA licence, never mind a Euro one. there will also be a clause, to be invoked in certain circumstances.

They will probably hide behind the Newco angle, citing the absence of accounts due to the New Company, not club, only being existence since May or August 2012 : thereby not requiring audited accounts for this year.

Or else, some other lying, cheating subterfuge.

Whither or which, in the future, licences should only be granted after three years of audited accounts, not three years from the date they first kicked a ball.

  10. The issues or predictive text….so I’ll repost..Jim and I

We’re driving past grey, skull and I said “there’s life Jim but not as we know it”and he’s a blue.he. the said “Cling ons on the the starboard bow” I don’t think he saw the irony of his statement

  11. Thanks thomthetim. No doubt chuckles could produce numbers on the back of a fag packet and it would be accepted by the SFA. I was hoping monday might have been a day to look forward to. (Apart from my wee visit to Gweedore)

  12. What is the Stars on

  15. Thomthetim

Do not let this spoil your Easter but the SFA, for the first time ever, have introduced an exceptional dispensation clause for clubs who cannot provide historical accounts.

This allows a club to apply rather than it be granted but as I have been pointing out for a month now granting The Rangers a club licence for next season is going to be less than straight forward if their Interim return is any indicator that they will last through to the end of next season.

Keep an eye on this one for answers to questions already posed.

  16. Paul 67, any chance you will be sending any CQN merchandise to Vegas this year for NAFCSC?

    Badges books etc.

Also maybe a way for people to donate whilst there that find it difficult to do from North America?

    Just a thought.

  17. Late here and I’m maybe a wee bit tired, so might explain my failure to ‘get’ the article headline…….

Not long back in from “Via Dolorosa”………… Two and a half hours duration but extremely uplifting, so “Good Friday is just another Friday for you” doesn’t quite resonate (with me)…..

Could well be that I am just locked in on my own wee take on things and should perhaps read the leader (yet) again but I have done so and still do not see the correlation with the headline……….

Nonetheless, wishing a happy, holy and peaceful Easter to any interested parties.

    God Bless Kano et al……….

    Regards & Hail Hail
