Great times need suitable historical frame

162

At the start of this month I look at the fixture list; three away games, at Inverness in the Scottish Cup and both Edinburgh grounds in the league, sounded a tall order.  Before the Inverness game I wrote that it was games like that which often brought a promising treble run to a halt, while Hibs and Hearts had already taken points from us this season.

‘The record shows’, we’re in the next round of the cup and hit an incredible nine goals over two visits to Edinburgh without reply.

We’ve scored 21 goals away from home since the last goal conceded (at Udinese) and have scored 26 in domestic away games since Motherwell took the lead against Celtic on 6 November last year.  In that time Dunfermline Kilmarnock and Dundee United have scored at Celtic Park, while Falkirk managed a goal at Hampden in the League Cup semi-final, but I don’t remember such an imperious Celtic team away from home.

I remember throwing a troublesome away stat at Gordon Strachan’s team.  Despite winning the league Gordon’s team went over 15 months in all competitions without keeping a clean sheet away from home.  Celtic were the best team in the land, indisputable winners, but no matter how lowly the opposition, there was a fragility about the team.

These great times need to be placed in a suitable historical frame.

The signed Celtic jersey we were auctioning on eBay raised £5000 on Saturday. I get to see a lot of Celtic fans, so should know your nature well enough by now, but you continue to raise the bar higher.

Stunned.

Thanks – heard some similar stories but always wondered how my Dad’s pal Alec got a job in the first place. Some of the blatant bigotry in the stories I was told were unbelievable.

Thank goodness that kind of thing has a completely disappeared and we live in a completely tolerant society now!

The hate is building. I would imagine that if Rangers lose a game away from home the pitch will be invaded and the battling will commence. They are hurting and their form would prove that voilence is round the corner.

Watching Channel 4’s really rather good new drama Homeland last night it struck me that when Hollywood eventually make a movie of the life of Whytie (‘Huns : My part in their downfall’) who better to play Lenny than fellow ginger and top acting bloke Damien Lewis. Other cast members could include..

Craig Whyte ; Rik Mayal/ A Hammerhead Shark

Super Saveloy : Himself (he may need the gig)

It is amazing that a player is fined for unsporting conduct but the huns can sign cousin with full SFA backing and fail to pay their outstanding bills to fellow SPL clubs.

Is their a rift between the SFA and SPL ?

If UEFA eventually find out that the SFA is not fit for purpose how can they get a vote at the big FIFA table ??

Ah hiv nae idea whit wid be the actual date, when Celtic wull Hoist the League Flag,

in Front of their Adoring Fans…but.. surely, the Visit of the Thai Youngsters wid be made all the Sweeter and Memorable ,if …

the Celebration of Oor League Triumph could also be witnessed and celebrated by the Youngsters.

Do you believe that this suggestion of mine, has also crossed the collective mind of the Celtic Administrators?

    Ah, fur wan…Hope so.

And,if it has.. then the Youngsters Visit has already Been arranged tae Co-incide.

This is just the tip of the iceberg – I think there could be lots of bother over the next few months and would urge every Celtic fan to take care.

They’re hurting badly and some will revert to type if and when Lenny brings home the treble and any leading questions the media ask.

Scottish Mutual (before they were taken over by Abbey National). Worked there as a temp one summer so through an agency rather than directly. Was asked ‘you a Rangers man ?’, I answer ‘no’, ‘ah just follow Scotland then’ came the serious reply.

Few years later I’d a recruitment firm contact me about working there and could they send in my cv in, OK I said. Recruitment company were perplexed when I was turned down for an interview given my cv.

  22. Barr & Stroud

Like Weirs (and so many other Glasgow companies up until around that time) Barr & Stroud (then in Annielsand) employed previous few Tims.

One year (around 1975/76, I think) it transpired that almost all of the latest intake of 20 or so apprentices were Catholics.

It turned out that the recruitment officer had converted to Catholicism and had kept the fact to himself … until it was ‘too late’.

Keevins, along with the rest of the rat pack, are all the guys who got tore into Joe Ledley for coming out with “if we win all our league games between now & the end of the season, we CAN win the league”. 15 down, 11 to go. Well said Joe Ledley, don’t expect them to apologise.

You have to wonder how naive and gullible people must be to think that the Taxpayers Alliance are our allies when it comes to the huns.
