Hard work, fans and Celtic with focus

I love Paris, the food, the sights, the people, the atmosphere of the place.  So it came as a surprise when I watched Messi and Neymar booed by their own PSG fans after their elimination from the Champions League.  The greatest of all time and a talented show pony, both the toast of the city recently, as persona non grata.  How can it be?

The short version of events is that PSG were eliminated because neither did enough running around against Real Madrid to prevent their elimination.  This is a bit unfair.  A shark is a shark.  If you swim with one, you should know how it will behave.

When it comes to energy, Messi, for all his exalted status, is more Charlie Nicholas than Frank McGarvey.  His Brazilian protégée, Neymar, was always going to behave like his master.  Maybe Messi’s game would be hampered, if he put in the hard miles, I doubt he ever found out.

I also doubt Leo has seen the best of Paris: the Tower, Montmartre, Sacre Coeur.  No matter how long he stays, he will remain an unknown recluse, inevitably leaving behind fans who wonder what they were initially thinking.  Still, booing your own after a defeat?  It’s not a good look.   A PSG decline, without the prize they really want, seems inevitable.

It hurt when Bodo/Glimt taught us a lesson home and away last month.  Having already eliminated AZ Alkmaar from one European competition this season, we would feel hopeful of doing so again, if we faced them in the Conference League, instead of Bogo/Glimt.

There are compensations, primarily our hunt for the league title.  Instead of journeys to Netherlands, all the focus at Lennoxtown this week is on facing Ross County at Celtic Park on Saturday.  It has been a while since we were this confident.

Well my Celtic is on the cusp of a domestic treble and bring me a fair bit of joy.

I have no fears as to how we will do when we fully engage in the CL next season. If Benfica and Villarreal can get to the Qtr finals then there is no reason we can’t. We best Alkmaar and they beat Ajax recently so there is some logic.

I am looking. Forward to attending 3 games vs our near rivals and hopefully celebrating 3 wins next month to build on our 30 game domestic run.

From your posts each game Celtic obviously makes you feel miserable most games and rarely meets your standards. So we see it differently. That’s fine for me. It’s a pity for you that they don’t give you much joy as you seem to enjoy football around the world.

Maybe you could start by spelling my moniker correctly, and not foisting your assumptions of my emotional state of mind on the blog?

You are not qualified as a psychotherapist and your assumptions regarding my state of mind are simply laughable. Celtic’s last game was against a Dundee United team of hammer throwers utterly bereft of any skill or any attacking threat whatsoever. For a team that once started the likes of Narey, Hegarty and Sturridge, that is a tragedy.

As for us, we were dire. Can you remember one single piece of skill from any player that got you out of your seat? If that standard of football makes you happy, I have no issue with it. I expect much better from Celtic. Deficiencies make me critical, not miserable.

  3. Slavia win an amazing 7-5 on aggregate against LASK, but end up with 9 men, a severe handicap for the quarter finals.

  4. For, Sceptical Celt, if your still about.

Only one journalist in the entire isle of Britain who gave your man, Jeremy Corbyn, a fair crack of the whip, Peter Oborne, who was more of a Tory leaning type of journo, broke ranks and told the truth about Jeremy.

Kudos to him for that, but as you said earlier, it is utterly unbelievable that supporters of, Glasgow Celtic, didn’t vote for this man, united Ireland, etc, etc, these supporters who sing every week about setting Ireland free, and then appeared almost from heaven, this great man as you rightly say, Sinn Fein legend, Gerry Adams said, in his Gerry Adams voice.

“We at Sinn Fein, on behalf of the good people of Ireland, are well versed on the capabilities, the ethics, and the integrity, of, Jeremy Corbyn.

Jeremy, is a lifelong friend of Ireland, he’s exactly what the good people of Britain needs right now ( 2017 ) I hope I’m not jinxing him by saying this, but we wish Jeremy Corbyn, well.”

I’ve fact-checked the claims that Jeremy Corbyn is “pro-Putin”. It turns out that no politician has been more consistent or more prescient about Putin than Corbyn. When he warned about Russian donor money he was mocked. My new column for Middle East Eye:

  5. Of 15 ties today in the Europa and Conference, only the Betis and West Ham ties can go to the lottery of penalties.

  6. Betis strike bar in second half of ET. Eintracht did it twice earlier.

Wee bit of a confusing post, if you don’t mind me saying.

  12. Sacking 800 workers by video link. Cowardly P&O Ferries bosses couldn’t even find the decency to look its employees in the eye.

  13. Say what you like about 1970s trade unionism. But no employer would have dared treat working class people as disposable items then.

Maybe you should go watch rangers after all. Seems a better fit if Celtic gives you such misery.

Seems they are much more to your liking.

The last 8 in Europa has only got 1 team on with a chance of winning their own domestic league. Guess who ?
