Helsingborgs indifferent domestic form

791

Helsingborgs IF are sixth after 17 games in the Swedish Allsvenskan, seven points off Elfsborg and Malmo, who ended Scotland’s interest in the Champions League last season.  Our opponents clearly play it tight on the road, they have lost only eight goals away from home, considerably fewer than anyone else in the league (Malmo: 19), although their home goals for and against are not unusually low (scored 14 to Malmo’s 16 at home, conceded nine to Malmo’s one).

Helsingborgs have lost only three league games, fewer than anyone else.  Four draws from nine home games appears to have cost them most ground in the title race.

Celtic can expect to face a tight defence who are well versed at shutting teams out in the second leg in Glasgow where they will need the creative talents of Kris Commons with perhaps Paddy McCourt p[laying a role.  A big European-night atmosphere at Celtic Park will be invaluable.

I hope that we don’t embarrass RM tonight by giving them a right doing.

I’ll be happy with a 3 or 4 nothing win.

    Off oot!

  2. saltires en sevilla,

You highlight what I have felt for many many years: our players have the ability but it is not properly tested week in week out in in the SPL. They are not stretched enough and that effects them when they face teams in Europe. I long for the other SPL teams to encourage their players to play the game properly. Effort and running and the get-tore-into them mentality will never compensate for skill and technique. The entertainment will also improve.

Yup -to be fair I feel SPL teams will start to rediscover how to play proper fitba eventually – in the meantime our bhoys need to be 100% focused in every game.

Of course if and when our referees start to apply the rules across every game in SPL (not just talking about mibbery) we might finally see the demise of the days of the hacking thugs that dominate our game now.

There doesn’t seem much of an appetite to resolve that one

I think a Pan European League in the form and structure of the NFL would be an ideal our game could aspire to. We could have geographic divisions like they do in the NFL, with a Northern Division made up of German, British, Dutch clubs etc and a Southern Division made up of Italian, Spanish and French- but then we don’t have the strict geographic limitations of America, where there are such vast distances or major time differences. You can get to just about anywhere in Europe in a couple of hours- from this point of view we have a huge advantage over the NFL- Europe is a small continent that is very densely populated and with a fantastic transport structure.

The NFL league as I mentioned is divided evenly into two conferences—the American Football Conference (AFC) and National Football Conference (NFC), and each conference has four divisions that have four teams each, for a total of 16 teams in each conference. This makes up the NFL’s total number of its 32 teams.

The NFL is the most attended domestic sports league in the world by average attendance per game (16 a season), with 67,394 fans per game in 2011–12. I think a Pan European League could be looking to better this average attendance- we alone, playing the likes of Bayern or Manchester United or even Milan or Barca would hope to be getting 80,000 at least.

Football has a lot to learn from the NFL: Playoffs, exhibition seasons, video technology, the creative use of variations in fixtures, wild cards, salary and spending caps per season, a more equitable pooling of revenues generated by the games brand status, and maybe most importantly collegiate drafting. Drafting would maybe operate in a Pan European League with the top clubs sign players from the best of the rest. With the likes of Aberdeen, Auxerre or Brugge or an Aston Villa acting as parallels to the College teams in American football. In the NFL the poorer teams get first pick of the best players from those leagues in order to enhance competitiveness.

The Green Bay Packers are also an ideal to which many football clubs could aspire, as they demonstrate how a community-owned can be very successful- since 1996 they have been in three Super Bowl finals and overall won it four times, including the Vince Lombardi era when Packers would become the Team of the 60s, winning five world championships over a seven-year span, including victories in the first two Super Bowls. Typically, a team is owned by one person, partnership, or corporate entity, i.e., a “team owner.” The lack of a dominant owner has been stated as one of the reasons the Green Bay Packers have never been moved from the city of Green Bay, a city of only 102,313 people as of the 2000 census While the team is operated as a non-profit organization. This success has led to problems with tickets for matches due to demand. The Packers’ fan base is famously dedicated: regardless of the team’s performance, every Packers game at Lambeau Field has been sold out since 1960. Despite the Packers having by far the smallest local TV market, the Packers have developed one of the largest fan bases in the NFL. Each year they consistently rank as one of the top teams in terms of popularity. The Packers have one of the longest waiting lists for season tickets in professional sports with about 86,000 people, meaning there are now more names on the waiting list than there are seats at Lambeau Field. The average wait time for season tickets is said to be over 30 years; yet since the team estimates only 90 tickets are turned over every year, if a name were to be added to the list today the estimated wait would extend well over 955 years. For this reason, it is not unusual for fans to designate a recipient of their season tickets in their wills or place newborn infants on the waiting list after receiving birth certificates.

Half an hour ago – just received confirmation email

  7. Can anyone clarify the -10 points thing?

Their team were deducted 10 points in February when their club went into administration.

Is it true that administrators Duff and Phelps are still in situ and that the administration process has not been brought to a conclusion? If so, if this were the same club, would it not have to start the new league campaign on minus-10 points?

The official SFL website has them preparing to kick off on zero points. Does this constitute incontrovertible proof that the SFL and the SFA have included a new club in division three (for their own reasons) and that this is not the same club as the one that received the standard ten-point deduction in February?

If it is not the same club, why is it being presented with the same name?

    Can anyone explain?

    Merci.

  8. So according to Sky, they are still rangers and keep their history. According to McCann they must keep their titles, he had an ebt but no second contract and he took legal advice before signing.

Build up debt, liquidated, get your wrists slapped and carry on as before, debt free. Could be a new business model for all scottish clubs!

As for David Tanner – fud!

Now listening to Sally telling us how “excited both he and the players are” nay, “thrilled” at the prospect of today’s game.

This best laugh have had for ages!

Now I wonder if the Hoops are nearly as excited looking ahead to their game tonight?

  15. Sell out Saturday.

Me and junior will be heading off to watch Morton v Livi. Used to hate going to Cappielow in early 80s as we always found it tough, got to admit their fans had some belters of a songbook.

Guy wearing a jersey of a now defunct football club talking out loud about SevCo’s game today. A guy is looking at the racecards when his mate comes in and asks him if he’s watching the SevCo game

Guy’s reply; “Nah mate, i only watch top level football”

SevCo supporter nearly combusts as i pondered whether to pay for the guys coupon as a thank you

The utter humiliation they are suffering on a daily basis is truly magnificent

  21. Fc Heisenberg seem to lack creativity- I don’t think they create a lot of chances from what I’ve seen of them. But then they pumped Wroclaw. Maybe they took the Poles by surprise at this time of the season. I still don’t think their any great shakes. They will, like most Swedish sides, be well organized, disciplined and hard working. But come on, they are signing that diddy fae Rangers; thats their level.

We should have too much for them.

But then you can never be entirely certain against FC Heisenberg.

  23. Snake. It’s a serious question. I do not know the explanation.

I pore over press releases for a living. The press statement from The Scottish FA, The Scottish Premier League, The Scottish Football League and Sevco Scotland Ltd from July 27 provides no clarity on this question whatsoever.

Are they Rangers or not? If so, who is picking up the Rangers tab? If not, why are they being presented in official communications as Rangers?

If they partly are and partly aren’t, who decided which parts were Rangers and which parts were not and what criteria did they use?

Or are our beloved football authorities still trying to make it up as they go along?

I’ve heard that it is a good day out at cappielow for the lunch and drinks package, I remember a few years back a few boys in the pub used to do this 3 or 4 times a season, then fall into the Norseman bar.

SevCo offered Beattie a £1k a week basic. He told them to Foxtrot Oscar over a week ago but Sally kept the charade going to try and boost SB sales

With only 25k SB’s sold, i would imagine no more players will be arriving until a couple of high earners follow Bedoya out the door

  26. Thought I’d find this spectacle funny but I think the constant reference to ‘Rangers’ sickens. They appear to have cleaned out the tax man, and emerged as the same entity, debt free, same baggage and same adoring media. Into the league despite not meeting criteria. Having left millions of debt to creditors and huge tax debts behind.
