“I brought Charles Green in to buy Rangers”

851

“I brought Charles Green in to buy Rangers” screams the BBC headline ahead of this evening’s interview by Chris McLaughlin of the Last King of Rangers, Our Hero, Craig Whyte.  Whyte has retained private contact with a couple of journalists but he has previously declined earnest requests to go on the record given the level of investigation he is under.  The wrong word could be costly.

But here it is, “I brought Charles Green in to buy Rangers”.  An unequivocal assertion.

The interview will be broadcast on Reporting Scotland and Newsnight Scotland this evening and has been trailed by every outlet in the land (first trailed by Phil Mac Giolla Bhain last night).  There appears to be genuine surprise in many news outlets.  CQN’ers will be busy checking this this is, in fact, news, not a rehash of an earlier established fact (it is genuine news).

It has been a few months since Our Hero was The Only Show in Town but he can still put on a captivating performance.

Charles Green has yet to respond but he will.  He has no choice.  He could categorically deny the claim, citing Whyte’s court-established reliability, but to do that he’ll have to calculate that corroborating material will not emerge.  The wrong word now could torpedo hopes of a successful share issue next month

A bombastic statement from well-polished PR people is what’s needed.  I hope we’re not disappointed.

“I brought Charles Green in to buy Rangers”.  Kaboom!

Got this from Thomas Cook about the Benfica away trip

“We are still subject to minimum numbers on the over night trip, however, we are not too far off reaching the minimum of applications we need to run the trip.”

I think if we get anything from the Barca games then bhoys will apply, otherwise it will only be a one day trip on offer :(

SFTB FSTB …. This reminds me of my post to TTTT and TTT last night.

The problem is this. The SPL is waiting on the crown. Once Lord Nimmo reports then the SFA will have to act as Paul67 pointed out last night. They are liable for oldco this is why the SFA fined Craig Whyte personally so much and not the club.

UEFA can only act on the SFA recommendation.

With the SFA being in Murrays back pocket and possibly the Crown ….then they cant legally act.

    A classic stand off.

  11. MSM even sharing the main players – BBC Scotland getting Craig Whyte and STV getting Charles Green – we will see how charlie bhoy measures his attacks / comments tonight at 10.30pm and see if awe naw;s list of those being protected and those being attacked match up with the two jousting jesters ?

did Chris McLauglin accidently let slip that the FTT has made its judgement?

29:15 he says “rangers have recently received the big tax bill…..does he mean recent like this month or does he mean recent years?

    I wonder…

    I heard this too…

  13. Whyte himself is a sideshow, just a footnote in the whole saga.

His only real relevance now is what damage he can do to Greene.

The thing to concentrate on is Murray and the FTT decision.

    Don’t get distracted.

    Guys

Rangers got the tax bill 4 years ago.

The 96m figure was released last week by D&P thats what I think he was talking about.

I very much doubt that when the FTT deliver we will get distracted.

I agree it’s a classic diversion, but there will be no distraction.

  18. If Alex Salmond allegedly asked for better terms, payment options or heaven forbid a write off of the debt from the busted flushers – that is very serious. That is public money.

Also if he allegedly has…has he intervened on behalf of “big Scottish institutions” before? Dewars…Halls…?

  19. This is about Baseball. Before you groan, there’s a point about Celtic within.

I went along to Yankee Stadium last week to see the New York Yankees beat Baltimore Orioles in Game 3 of what we would call the Quarter-Finals. It’s a great stadium and a very enjoyable experience.  However, the crowd here and at other baseball stadiums I’ve visited, have to be led by cheesy organ music and other prompts from the PA. They could learn so much from the imagination and power of our fans’ singing.

Sometimes I wonder if the songs and atmosphere at Celtic Park have a material effect on the game. This came back to me when posters mentioned how the crowd lifted our team at Rugby Park last year. We’ve also seen the list of glowing testimonials from the game’s greats who praise our European nights. But does the noise from the bhoys really influence play?

Well, I think it does. I noticed a comment from Detroit Tigers’ Left Fielder, Quentin Berry, in The US media. Now the Yankees defeated Baltimore and are now in a ‘best of seven’ series against Detroit. (after last night’s 2-1 win Detroit are 3-0 up in the series and could secure entry to the World Series, their Final, if they win tonight). After Detroit won the second game in New York the press were critical of the Yankees crowd for their silence. Berry said ” Coming from Oakland and how rowdy they were, and how loud, that was the loudest place I’ve ever been in my entire life. Coming from there, man, it made this trip so much easier to deal with from the fans because it’s nothing like Oakland was.”

Detroit beat Oakland in the previous round. Oakland are a small franchise based in San Francisco. Their stadium holds around 20,000. They play in green and were made famous by the Moneyball book and film.  Yankee Stadium holds 50,000 although only 43,000 were there on the night Quentin refers to. I’d love to see Quentin hear one of our European nights.

So noise does matter if you believe Quentin.

Perhaps the Green Brigade could branch out and diversify into Baseball!

Next. season, I think I’ll follow the Oakland Athletics

  21. The whole scam depended on ragers being an spl club, there must

have been assurances from spl and sfa. If ragers had been in the spl

would murray have been able to walk away frm £100m debt. With ragers

in the spl they would be profitable and deal done with hmrc and they go

    on happily ever after
