“I brought Charles Green in to buy Rangers”

851

“I brought Charles Green in to buy Rangers” screams the BBC headline ahead of this evening’s interview by Chris McLaughlin of the Last King of Rangers, Our Hero, Craig Whyte.  Whyte has retained private contact with a couple of journalists but he has previously declined earnest requests to go on the record given the level of investigation he is under.  The wrong word could be costly.

But here it is, “I brought Charles Green in to buy Rangers”.  An unequivocal assertion.

The interview will be broadcast on Reporting Scotland and Newsnight Scotland this evening and has been trailed by every outlet in the land (first trailed by Phil Mac Giolla Bhain last night).  There appears to be genuine surprise in many news outlets.  CQN’ers will be busy checking this this is, in fact, news, not a rehash of an earlier established fact (it is genuine news).

It has been a few months since Our Hero was The Only Show in Town but he can still put on a captivating performance.

Charles Green has yet to respond but he will.  He has no choice.  He could categorically deny the claim, citing Whyte’s court-established reliability, but to do that he’ll have to calculate that corroborating material will not emerge.  The wrong word now could torpedo hopes of a successful share issue next month

A bombastic statement from well-polished PR people is what’s needed.  I hope we’re not disappointed.

“I brought Charles Green in to buy Rangers”.  Kaboom!

The ONLY way Ticketus will get their money back is by ensuring that bums occupy seats at Ibrox for the foreesable future.

If I were a potential share buyer I would want a cast iron gurantee that all ticket sales would be paid into the club and none would be used to pay Ticketus anything.

Unless of course Ticketus write off the £27M and make a further loan against the same future sales they loaned to CW..

Cannot see that happen and if The Rangers do not have a Ticketus to smooth cash flow during a normal season, how does The Rangers plan to do so?

Nearly crashed the car on the way into work this morning.

Fat Eck being interviewed on Radio Shortbread and asked about speaking to HMRC on behalf of Oldco…said he wanted to resolve the big tax case in the most TIMeous manner! He repeated it too.

Orcs would have been going nuts! :-)

Its strange how they refer to OLD Rangers when talking about them being in Liquidation, yet they totally forget to add the ‘NEW’ when talking about their present incarnation.

  4. Talk Sport story this morning on the news’ Charles Green overwhelmed by the interest in IPO and praises the support’……….English MSM now behaving like their Scottish counterparts, no mention of the real story , just another propaganda excercise.

Their tentacles appear to have a long reach .

Heart sick of them. Please just go away with a bit of grace!

the valuation of £80m was carried out by Grant Thornton who under Murray valued Ibrox at £125m. This is an insurance rebuild price not a market sale price.

Why no questions re the floating charge. Green may and can own Ibrox but it may can still have a charge over it.

The journalists remember the old saying – never ask a question if you are not prepared for the answer it may bring.

    or something like that

  7. TTTT and Row Z.

The low price Chuckie allegedly paid for the property assets would suggest that Craigie Boy holds a First Registered Charge over these, not a Second Charge. I suppose a search of the Land or Sasine Registry in Scotland would show this. But then the MSM would have already done this surely?

A bit like buying a house with a sitting tenant. The price is deflated reflecting the age and proposed life expectancy of the tenant!

  8. Re the Murphy debate:

Jim Murphy like Alex Salmond was elected to represent all of the people in their respective constituencies and subsequently in this Country overall, not a selected few, for any politician to lobby HMRC in a case involving non payment of taxes is unacceptable, both politicians have been involved recently or historically in the reduction of public service budgets, both from a Scottish and UK Government position, those same public service budgets are in part funded by the collection of tax from all residents in this Country,

I find it truly astonishing then that either or both would seek to in any way act on behalf of the defaulter, the rules are clear pay your taxes or pay the consequences,

I honestly dont care if Jim Murphy is a Celtic Supporter, I honestly dont care if Alex Salmond is a Jambo, the fact of the matter is this is NOT a football matter, the defaulter was a Company associated with football, no more, it was a Company intent on making profit for its shareholders, the non payment was one of greed, it was not one (initially) of inability to pay, rather than skirt around the issue both Salmond and Murphy if they saw fit to get involved in the issue should have first and foremost made it clear they supported HMRCs legal right to collect the tax, not only should they have said it they may have been better lobbying HMRC to ensure it was done.

Lets not lose sight of the fact this Company cheated the country out of close to £100 million.

ONE HUNDER MILLION POUNDS buys a lot of healthcare, builds a lot of affordable housing, employs a lot of teachers and if they wish to be so politically correct would have assisted with both parties in their environmental targets for the Country.

So he should. So far 101,556 declarations of interest have been expressed. Craig Whyte just being the last has generously proposed an investment of £10k.

Prior to that there were some more generous proposals from each member of the current NewRangers playing staff. All also saying they would invest £10k.

It’s a scam. They are all criminals. They cooked it up together. Get them nicked pronto. Repay everyone. Close down that rotten club once and for all. Gie us all peace. No more angels dancing on the head of a pin. No more presstitutes like Jabba milking this and talking utter garbage.

It’s a massive criminal conspiracy. Anybody else would be behind bars by now.

Get it over with ya bams.

  15. I note from the BBC story about us being the most expensive to watch in the SPL that they point out our cheapest option is more expensive than Man City’s. It would be nice if they could have pointed out that we are also a lot cheaper than many EPL teams and 3 Championship team (Leeds, Middlesborough and another I cannae be bothered to check on).

It’s also worth noting that they got £60.6M from tv revenue. If their tv money was the same as ours £3M-ish their 36k season tickets would rise by and average of £1583.

SCOTTISH referee Craig Thomson has been branded USELESS by Romania after their 4-1 hammering at the hands of Holland.

The Romanians were fuming after the whistler awarded Louis van Gaal’s team a penalty on the stroke of half-time and a goal that looked offside.

Thomson turned down two appeals for a spot-kick from the hosts.

The victory at Bucharest’s National Arena meant the Oranje overtook Romania at the top of Group D.

Local newspapers called Thomson a ‘whistle thief’, while former top Romanian ref Ion Craciunescu also hit out at his performance.

Craciunescu said: “We have better referees in our league than this man.

“He was useless, had no personality and no sense of fair play.”

Romania boss Piturca added: “They scored two goals, including a penalty that should never have been given, and an offside goal. We got nothing.”

“He was useless, had no personality and no sense of fair play.”

Sums him up. Honest mistakes, as we understand the term, indicate a desire to help determine the outcome of the game.

At international level, guys like Thomson and Wullie Collum are on the gravy train. It’s a very high-profile and lucrative gig. Thomson surely won’t want to do anything to jeopardise his place on it, having worked for years to get there.

He’s just rubbish. So is Wullie.

“No personality” really matters here. They have not got enough about them to referee the game well enough for play to flow and for players to know they are being properly looked after and properly watched, that there’s a guy in charge who knows what he’s doing.

They want to referee the way a robot would.

  23. Just caught up with last nights ‘interviews’ and Jabba’s appearance on Newsnight.

The Nosferatu lookalike giving Chuck such an easy time really does want to get a grip. That was free advertising on STV with Chuck in full salesman mode, promoting the share issue and really telling us how oldco were kept afloat by some strange property valuations. A journalist? do your job man.

Chris McLaughlin got very atmospheric interviewing our hero in the dark-is Halloween soon?-he even deemed to call him a liar! The trouble with Craig is that he doesn’t look as if even believes a word he says. It’s a bad day when Chuck seems more credible than you.

Nice suit and specs Jabba. The omnipotent one deemed to grace us with his knowledge and the fact he even fell out with Murray once. Aye right!

  24. The Battered Bunnet on

While much remains opaque about the finances and ownership of Rangers/Sevco, one thing is absolutely crystal clear: Ticketus have no claim.

The Admins report confirms “..the claims made by Ticketus against the Company are unenforceable.”

This is as likely to relate to the claim by former FC Ken Olverman that ‘clipart’ invoices were raised by Phil Betts to Ticketus, than the complex matter of Equity under English Law. Indeed, D&P confirmed again yesterday that matters to do with the financing of the Whyte’s takeover are subject of a criminal investigation.

The theory doing the rounds lately suggests Ticketus/Octopus/ the Investors set up the Sevco project to recover their money, and that Whyte facilitated this in some part. Were any/many of Sevco’s named investors also investors in Ticketus?

Did Whyte break cover yesterday because Ticketus are playing hard ball with him over his personal guarantee? Did Whyte expect an easier time from them in return for doing his part in manoeuvering them into Ibrox? Has he set out to sink their IPO as a GIRUY?

All in the realm of conspiracy theory I’m afraid.

What is quite clear though is that Whyte’s comments yesterday will not have been helpful to instilling confidence in Sevco’s bona fides ahead of the IPO, which begs the question: Was that Whyte’s intention?
