“I brought Charles Green in to buy Rangers”

851

“I brought Charles Green in to buy Rangers” screams the BBC headline ahead of this evening’s interview by Chris McLaughlin of the Last King of Rangers, Our Hero, Craig Whyte.  Whyte has retained private contact with a couple of journalists but he has previously declined earnest requests to go on the record given the level of investigation he is under.  The wrong word could be costly.

But here it is, “I brought Charles Green in to buy Rangers”.  An unequivocal assertion.

The interview will be broadcast on Reporting Scotland and Newsnight Scotland this evening and has been trailed by every outlet in the land (first trailed by Phil Mac Giolla Bhain last night).  There appears to be genuine surprise in many news outlets.  CQN’ers will be busy checking this this is, in fact, news, not a rehash of an earlier established fact (it is genuine news).

It has been a few months since Our Hero was The Only Show in Town but he can still put on a captivating performance.

Charles Green has yet to respond but he will.  He has no choice.  He could categorically deny the claim, citing Whyte’s court-established reliability, but to do that he’ll have to calculate that corroborating material will not emerge.  The wrong word now could torpedo hopes of a successful share issue next month

A bombastic statement from well-polished PR people is what’s needed.  I hope we’re not disappointed.

“I brought Charles Green in to buy Rangers”.  Kaboom!

Think of the money that he could raise by selling all the names and addresses of the most gullible ,stupid ,stupid, people on the planet, to double glazing salesmen, energy supply salesmen, car salesmen, the demand would be off the radar!

Jim Murphy did not plead for leniency. He made noises about being supportive of Rangers in their dealings with Lloyds and he then proceeded to do the square root of nothing about his noises.

I agree with you about New Labour and bank regulations, though.

Jabba says debt was @ £18m, was the £49m tax case not hanging over them at this stage…..maybe that’s why minty gave him it for a pound.

I’going to my bed noo, there’s the normal news on now.

    =================================

That is another piece of hunaganda. In 2006 their published debt was £6m. It rose through 2007 and 2008 to £31M in order to buy the team that won the title in 2009 (including a couple of EBT waged players).

That spend was deliberate to divert CL money from Celtic coffers to Rangers. It was no feat to reduce a £31M debt to £18M using a five fold increase from 2006 to do so.

Just another story by Jabba to cover the truth.

  12. The Comfortable Collective on

James Francis Murphy used his position as a member of the Government to intervene to aid the cause of rangers. He never did it with any other football team during his time in Government, even though many Scottish teams have had a very hard time with their credit lenders over a fair few years.

He is no difference from Alex Salmond.

Well, except perhaps that Salmond is a hun, and has a soft spot for the huns, obviously, so perhaps his reasons are one dimentional and understandable – he is a hun.

I wonder what reason well known ‘tim’ James Francis Murphy had.

    Hmmm.

  13. TONYG

That is what I am clinging on to.

If I didn’t believe that, it would be over, it’s not a secret that the club want out, but the powers are not doing what’s requried, uefa are keeping a distance, and imo they should be all over things, I ask myself why, and the answer I get does not sit well in my mind.

But I can always dream that the truth will out, and everything in the world will be rosy.

I agree and 20 million is as good an estimate as you’ll get, but ‘a licence’ was granted and the aspect of criminality in this country will not be fully addressed, – ever, regardless of how many titles are stripped, and I believe not only will they be stripped but even Scottish MP’s knew they’d be stripped some long time ago.

As you rightly pointed out the watershed circling of wagons, and resultant decision to have ‘Mibbery” and ‘Honest mistakes’ is traceable to when they first realised insolvency was inevitable, i.e. at least £20,000,000 ago.

The equation always returns to – What can and will Celtic do?

“James Francis Murphy used his position as a member of the Government to intervene to aid the cause of rangers.”

Apart from saying something vaguely supportive of an industry trying to deal with its bank, what did he do that would constitute an intervention?

In common with all politician from all parties, he would be prepared to be supportive of any firm, including other football clubs, to help them continue trading, in order to garner votes. Few other “interventions” would result in any publicity, mind you.

And that’s the last word I’ll say in defence of the New Labour Careerist.

    PHIL…..

I have to admit that I just can’t help liking this guy Whyte.

His surprise interview with the Beeb’s Chris McLaughlin has put a few things out there.

Firstly his revelations will come as no surprise to regular visitors to this site.

Mr Whyte was trumpeted by the Scottish mainstream media as the saviour of the Ibrox club.

As ever, dear reader, I was something of a contrarian. I even had the bad manners as far back in June 2011 to mention the securitisation of season tickets.

    Oops…

Several times during the interview he mentioned that October 2011 was a crisis time for the deceased club.

This had been flagged up at the time on here and, at the last moment, Whyte had decided to keep the lights on.

In the interview he admitted that Administration in October “…a possibility that was discussed…”

There was much crowing by the mainstream that the internet guys had got it wrong.

Well actually as it turns out that what I was warning about was very close to happening.

Then there was the Salmond intervention with Hector once Rangers went into Administration.

Once more that story was broken on here Mr Whyte confirmed to Chris that the First Minister had intervened directly on Rangers’ behalf with HMRC, but to no avail.

It is worth noting that once the story broke the canny First Minister dropped the idea.

Craig Whyte stated during the interview that Rangers by October were unable to meet their PAYE obligations.

Well actually Craig it was rather earlier than that.

Mr Whyte said he wasn’t used to this level of scrutiny.

Sorry Craig, it was business, it wasn’t personal.

You know that I like you.

Mr Whyte didn’t reveal how much money he had made out of the “financial basket case” at Edmiston Drive.

I fully understand that as it would be rather vulgar to mention large amounts of money just as Sevco may be entering their own cash flow crisis.

Have I mentioned that I also I really like Charles Green?

  20. Awe_Naw – another one for your list.

Can SPL visionary Doncaster explain his `Armageddon’ comments about loss of TV revenues if the Zombies were out of the SPL? This brings up a couple of points.

    1. Was he approached by Sky and told the consequences of the above happening?

    2. If so, where is the communication between the two? I remember him saying there was a contract to be renewed in June/July and then it all went quiet. At a conference last week he said that he was surprised how `resilient’ the game was here. So what happened in between times when the contract was `negotiated’?

    3. If the new contract was not to be signed until the summer then why was Doncaster saying that the deal would be a reduced one without `thems’ before the deal was agreed? (4 OF games)

My point is that if Doncaster was told by Sky that there would be a reduced deal, then fair enough, he will have this documentation to back it up and won’t have a problem bringing this into the public domain. However, if Sky did not instigate this and there was another external pressure to scaremonger the clubs Directors (and supporters) into voting for inclusion then where did it come from?

Don’t know where that fits Awe_Naw, but it was bugging me!

    Italiabhoy,

I have it on very good authority that, between them, Salmond and Cameron made five calls to David Hartnet at HMRC. Phrases such as “we mustn’t have another Ulster” and “they’ll be civil unrest” were, I’m told used.

Down in Liverpool missing all the fun. I posted about a month ago that I had been informed that the SNP at Westminster had done a deal with the Tories over future votes if the coalition broke down with the Fib-Dems.

The SNP had a number of conditions and 1 was to attempt to get the HMRC to help RFC, or at least to delay as long as possible. The SNP leader in London and Salmond personally intervened.

I got a few dis-believing comments from the Pro-SNP wing (fair enough) as I could not 100% prove it, glad wee craigy has helped me verify my story.
