“I brought Charles Green in to buy Rangers”

851

“I brought Charles Green in to buy Rangers” screams the BBC headline ahead of this evening’s interview by Chris McLaughlin of the Last King of Rangers, Our Hero, Craig Whyte.  Whyte has retained private contact with a couple of journalists but he has previously declined earnest requests to go on the record given the level of investigation he is under.  The wrong word could be costly.

But here it is, “I brought Charles Green in to buy Rangers”.  An unequivocal assertion.

The interview will be broadcast on Reporting Scotland and Newsnight Scotland this evening and has been trailed by every outlet in the land (first trailed by Phil Mac Giolla Bhain last night).  There appears to be genuine surprise in many news outlets.  CQN’ers will be busy checking this this is, in fact, news, not a rehash of an earlier established fact (it is genuine news).

It has been a few months since Our Hero was The Only Show in Town but he can still put on a captivating performance.

Charles Green has yet to respond but he will.  He has no choice.  He could categorically deny the claim, citing Whyte’s court-established reliability, but to do that he’ll have to calculate that corroborating material will not emerge.  The wrong word now could torpedo hopes of a successful share issue next month

A bombastic statement from well-polished PR people is what’s needed.  I hope we’re not disappointed.

“I brought Charles Green in to buy Rangers”.  Kaboom!

  1. I cannot bring myself to watch Newsnight Scotland. Enduring Jabba would induce uncontrollable projectile vomiting.

  2. Cheers for all the comments. The prayers are very much needed so appriciate it.

Hard to get head round how someone so happy, talented can just drop into serious depression. God bless anyone who it happens to or whos family is affected by it.

  3. On Jabba. It’s absolutely ridiculous that a journalist of his position and experience has to sit in the BBC Newsnight studio and claim: “I did give Murray a hard time.”

Says it all about him really.

  4. TBB – this is all as complicated as – a big bag of complicated things – but what if….

    Whyte still “owns” Ibrox

Ticketus are not investors with Green

Ticketus pursuing Whyte for their £27m

Another administration would allow Ticketus to buy “Rangers” with the intention of bleeding their money back.

Whyte helps sink Green to facilitate the sinking and get Ticketus off of his back.

All complete and utter drivel and supposition of course but with “them” stranger things have really happened.

Roy – there’s only one way Jabba gave Minty a hard time….alledgedly! (that’s for Hen1rik!)

“Salmond intervened with the help of Cameron to HMRC to get RFC a deal and he is still helping Sevco”

    How is he helping Sevco?

  7. roy croppie – The trouble with Craig is that he doesn’t look as if even believes a word he says.

Poor Craig. I think at one point McLaughlin leaned over with that birdlike skull of his and flickered his tongue, the better to taste Whyte’s fear. Luckily for our hero the BBC journalist proved out of his depth and his line of questioning was weak.

And what about Craig Whyte’s strangely modulated voice? That’s not even a Kelvinside accent, that’s a bizarre creation all of Craig’s own.

I kept expecting him to break out into “I was working in the lab late one night…” (thumbsup)

  8. I’m not in any way offering any slack to Jabba but

there was a time when he was banned from ibrokes

for criticising the beasts European tactics. Or lack

of them. Jabba was branded – A Little Socialist !!! – by SDM

If I remember correctly…Gerry McNee was banned at the same

time. Only TWO journos from the MSM had the b#lls to criticise

the beast. Jabba, at that time was a regular critic of the huns in the

days when the Herald was a good paper. I think Jabba jumped into bed

with the huns shortly after that. Although, I remember attending the first

Save Our Celts meeting at Shettleston halls and only TWO MSM members

were present – Jabba(Herald) Delahunt(STV). McNee, needless to say

continued to get stuck into the huns on a weekly basis as well as telling

what seemed to be a very worrying number of fellow Celtic fans(blind-folded)

to what was actually going at our club. For me at least….McNee was the

Phil Mac of his day. Revealing what the LL would rather stayed hidden.

I stand by my contention of yesterday evening that, of the two, Craig Whyte was by far the easier on the viewer’s eye. And at least he has some nice clothes.

Chris McSebo’s stripy button-down effort was very hard going.

  10. The Battered Bunnet on

C_F – I think he’s a very complicated guy and wouldn’t assign any normal motivation to him.

TTLT – Yip, it’s all guesswork, supposition, unlikely imagination and wild inference. The real problem that the fans have is that despite the liquidation anf new start, they are no clearer today on how their club is managed and with what intention than they ever were before. Disaster that.

  11. Does that fud Salmond know that political interference, between the taxman and a football club can cause Scottish teams to be banned from Europe?

  12. TBB

Ahem. Normal or not, what do you think his motivation is here? (You’re not dealing with Chris McLaughlin here, you know).

  13. I feel there is a lot more to come about Duff and Phelps.

I was initially surprised at Whyte talking to the BBC, even it was Chris McLaughlin.

I assume he is no longer pursuing his multi-million pound claim for defamation against the broadcaster!

You will recall that Mark Daly’s report in May cast D & P in a pretty bad light. Although there was some bluster from the administrators following that programme, little more has been said by them. For the BBC to allow Whyte to make further allegations against D & P which could be actionable suggests to me that the BBC are confident that they have the goods on the administrators. If Whyte had gone anywhere else – Alex Thomson being the obvious choice – his comments would have had to be checked and re-checked with lawyers who would probably have counselled against broadcasting them. The fact that Whyte strolled in to an interview and made these allegations suggests to me the BBC already know the facts and they support what Craigy boy said.

So why have we not heard more from Mark Daly? I anticipate he is waiting for D & P to finish with the administration before making another programme. I have serious reservations about Whyte, and I would not let him near a witness box lest he shoot himself and others in the foot. However, he referred in the interview to emails and other documentation which, he says, back him up. If this is true, they are almost certainly in the hands of the BBC. I doubt they would have broadcast the interview if they were not in possession of this evidence.

I am looking forward to the next part of “The Men who Sold the Jerseys”.

I used to quite enjoy Traynor’s articles in the Herald in the early 90’s. Some however think he was close the Celts for Change movement but he never was although he was at some meetings I attended. What you’ve pointed out sum up where he went wrong pandering to Mint when previously he would have taken him on. Circulation became his motive.

Jim Murphy spoke to Loyds bank about the issue of RFC

Honestly this is not an addition to the Anti Murphy campaign, to be frank I was a bit disappointed when he didnt come forward for the post now held by Ms Lamont in Scottish Labour but thats another issue altogether

If that is the case re HMRC I stand corrected, my mistake,

would you know why he sought to get involved at all?

If he has influence within the Financial Sector inc Lloyds maybe could also use it for other Companies who find themselves in financial difficulty through no fault of their own in his period of austerity rather than ones who knowingly cheated the public purse.

  17. Celtic_First – Yes, a sartorial victory for the Whyte knight.

I also felt a little bit sorry for him when he was accused of being immoral and a liar by somebody who works for the BBC.

I wouldn’t trust Craig Whyte with my wallet, but I’m pretty sure he’s far more trustworthy than the Savile Broadcasting Corporation. (thumbsup)

If Ticketus are out, and Sevco have sold 35,000 season tickets (albeit at reduced rates) while attracting walk-up custom on match-days, with much reduced overheads, still some TV revenue, a new retail deal and Charles Green’s investors’ cash …

… why is it such a desperate struggle for them (off the field)?

Do you think Sevco might face an insolvency event? If so when, before season’s end?

btw …i found my first hun who has admitted that he is going to by shares …

wee guy that works in the bank , i managed to gull him by pretending that i was concerned for the “decent” (i know ..) hun fans and then after he admitted he was going to buy the shares ..had a right laugh at his expense…even his mate who is a bluenose was P`ing himself laughing as well

I saw the comments about the free-tickets, but they got nearly 50,000 for the East Stirlingshire game, so some people must be paying on the day. They wouldn’t have put a mechanism in place to give away 15,000 tickets.

How dear can life be in Division Three? This is what I am really asking.
